I have always loved this place when I lived in Chico, always fresh too. I was in town for a wedding and took my boyfriend here to try it since I bragged about it so much. This was my second time visiting Donut Wheel. Let me start by saying THESE DONUTS ARE AMAZING. They make one of the best old fashioned donuts I have ever had. I also really enjoy their selection of Jelly donuts. A bit Pricy at $19 for a dozen but that included 2 Jelly. Little bit of an inconvenience that it is cash only but it is worth it. This review is a sheer disappointment to write. We were visiting Chico to see my family, and decided to get donuts on a Sunday morning. My sister told me that the best donuts in town are at Donut Nook on East ave, so I went there. First impression was pretty good, but I saw a sign that said Cash Only, so not wanting to waste anyone's time (except mine), I left, went down the street to pull out some cash from the ATM, and came back. Asked for a dozen, and they cheerfully began to fill my order. As I am paying and waiting for my change, I mention that in this day and age, it is unusual to not take some sort of electronic payment, and they should consider it. The 30-something dude behind the counter immediately responds with some thing to the effect of "...or you could go somewhere else!". Kind of a harsh response to a suggestion I thought, and I simply responded "yes, I could". Then, as I am walking out, I hear from over my shoulder, the guy simply says "ass hole", loud enough for me to hear! I stop, turn around, and said "Really???" Wow! just Wow!" I will NEVER go back. Their product may be good, but this is the worst and most offensive example of customer service I have ever encountered. NOTHING in the review is embellished in any way. I think the donuts here are excellent. There is always a line which tells you something, and it is not because they are slow. There is usually more than one person serving people, they just stay busy because they are good. The other donut store in town that has the same name on Main Street really needs to step up their game because they are nowhere remotely close to as good as the one on East Avenue. read more

First off, I'd like to say that I want my nails to be the same color as the maple donuts served here. It's quite a lovely shade. Second of all, YO THAT DONUT WAS SWEET AND MADE MY SWEET TOOTH SOAR. But a maple donut is a maple donut...don't expect to be reborn after trying it out. STILL DELICIOUS THOUGH. Besides the maple donut, my friend and I also ordered the apple fritter, blueberry fritter, and chocolate bar with chocolate filling. After asking the person behind the counter which fritter was better, she declared her loyalty to the blueberry fritter but admitted that her mom would fight for the apple fritter...which is why we ended up ordering both - good selling tactic, guys. The fritters here are delicious and while the blueberry one was good, I have to say that I enjoyed the apple one a little bit more. The apple flavor was more prevalent than the blueberry. In fact, if you didn't tell me I got a blueberry fritter, I would have just assumed it was a apple fritter without a lot of apple chunks. While my favorite donut from this outing was the apple fritter, my friend's favorite donut was the chocolate bar with chocolate filling. Unfortunately the reviews on this place are lower than they should be due to those in fear of receiving covid from the employees not wearing mask or gloves. There is nevertheless the option of protecting yourself at maximum capacity as a customer and going to get your Covid 19 vaccine if your truly worried about becoming ill. Four years ago, they used to put the donuts in a proper pink donut box that was deep enough for your donuts to not get damaged. Then they started putting it in a beer flat with a piece of wax paper flapping over it. Now they're putting a dozen in two paper bags and when they're done bagging they ask if you wanted a box. Needless to say, my donuts were smashed being stacked on top of each other. If you charge $20 a dozen, put it in a proper pink donut box. I'll come back if you do. read more

You have to remember to bring cash since they are cash only, but if you forget there is an atm right inside that will give out as little as $10.
