Get your service here!!! Tony and the team took such great care of me and my 2017 Honda Civic. At the start of April, my tires were stolen off of my car, and driver window was broken. After going through insurance and dealing with the nightmare that is Berkeley Auto Service (AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE), I received my car back after 3 weeks and it just wasn't driving properly. The drive felt completely off and I knew in the pit of my stomach that something was wrong. I took my tires to Costco for a rebalance and rotation at which point Costco said there were no issues. I knew I had to get another alignment from a second shop. In comes Don's. I was recommended going to Don's by the fine folks over at Berkeley Minicar. I called on a Monday morning and got an appointment for later that afternoon. I arrived at Don's about 20min early to my appointment but they happily checked me in and were able to start working on it slightly early. At check-in I did not yet tell them the issue I was having with my car as I wanted to see that they identified it on their own instead of searching for issues that I alerted them about. After about 45min my car was done and I checked back in with the front desk and what they told me had my jaw on the floor. The team was absolutely flabbergasted by how out of spec my previous alignment was (the one done by Berkeley Auto Service). They were surprised how I was able to drive straight. Once they asked me what happened, I spill the proverbial beans and told them the whole story about my tires being stolen and the fiasco working with Berkeley Auto Service (again, avoid!!). I showed Tony the alignment sheet I received from BAS and he remarked how incorrect it looked. The formatting did not match standard/current alignment spec sheets, and the min/max tolerances were did not match up with current standards. BAS either gave me a fake alignment report or were using some 40+ year-old alignment rack. Tony told me that as a professional he does not bad-mouth other shops, but it was clear to him by that alignment sheet and the nightmare story I told him, Berkeley Auto Service screwed me over. We continued to speak in depth about the results of the new alignment, tire wear, and all the issues I was previously experiencing after the incorrect alignment from BAS. All the issues I was experiencing while driving aligned with what he was telling me and how my car was severely out of alignment. Tony even offered for me to come back in a few weeks to have a check up and he'll even waive my check up fee just to be sure there's no further issues. If an issue is identified, we'll move forward with a supplemental under my original insurance claim. Huge shoutout to the team over at Don's. read more

Great experience with Don's Tire Service. I had a tire blowout near home and decided to go with the mobile service so I wouldn't have to get towed to the shop. They had to order the tire so the appt was next day, when it was absolutely pouring. The mobile tech was on time (early even?) so when I got there he was already finished and I didn't have to wait in the rain. He looked up how to reset my tire warning light, and waited for me/followed to see whether it successfully reset after a little bit of driving. Super nice and professional, as was the person I talked to on the phone to set it up. I had a good experience here years ago just getting a simple repair, so I'm glad to see it's still a top shop. read more

BEST SERVICE EVER! Being the amazing driver I am I hit a curb and dented my rim so bad I couldn't just get the tire replaced. I came into dons and it was the quickest service I've had for a tire replacement. They had to replace the rim and put a new tire but Denise really helped me out and told me I could get a cheaper tire that I would get more out of anyway. I have lived in Berkeley for decades, and driven past this place thousands of times (right near the Gilman St. freeway exit), and I am so sorry that I never realized how great they are until yesterday!! On Tuesday, I was told by my mechanic that I needed new tires. On Wednesday, I went searching online for tire services. Don's Tires had a website app that allowed me to search for my tires. The sales folks responded right away with an appropriate recommendation for my vehicle. Specifically, I was looking for good rolling resistance because it improves mileage (for my Honda). I have an older car, so I knew the tires would need to be ordered. On Thursday, I called Don's, they ordered the tires and said they would have them the same day, and made an appointment for me at 3pm - the same day! And cost they quoted me - including installation, and an alignment, and a road hazard warranty - was over 30% lower than another place I called! I went to the 3pm appointment, they said it would be 1.5 hours, but they actually finished everything 15 minutes ahead of time! They have a "minimal" waiting room, but actually I went window shopping in the neighborhood - there are a surprising number of stores in that area - including a nice cafe just across the street. I brought my car in for a full tune up in February and they stated what needed to be done and that included an oil change and filters. Two weeks after my "oil change" my service light came on. When I called to confirm a actual oil change was done I was told "just reset your light" to which I had and it came back on, then I was told "there must be an error your car hasn't resigisterd the oil change we'll have to manually reset it" to which I replied that I've recieved an oil change before the indacator light came on and its never been a problem. I finally took my car in for them to "correct" whatever the issue is and I was told my car had NO OIL and they said you car must be leaking oil, I'm no idiot I know when a car is leaking and mine infact was not! I was then told that they would do me a COURTESTY and put more oil in it. The NERVE, Yalll clearly changed the oil and NEVER put any in. The main job of the oil change replacing the oil. To be told it was a COURTESTY after I already paid for the missing oil was a slap in the face. It has now been a month since I visually wateched and recorded them put oil in and guess what ...NO ISSUES! My light has never came back on. read more

I had a flat tire. Darn! So I drove directly to Don's Tire Service and - dare I say - had the most enjoyable flat tire experience of my life. I appreciate the kind service in what could be a very stressful occasion. I was told that my tire would be ready in 3 hours (busy day at the shop), so I went home. Got a call a while later and - as promised- my car was ready in 3 hours. Also, they made an effort to patch my tire, when I was sure I'd need a brand new tire. Cost me $35, as opposed to $250. Beware!!! I came here to check on my suspension because I was going on a road trip to Tahoe. Instead I was pushed by the receptionist to get an alignment. I didn't really need one but I decided to install wobble bolts that bought a while ago. But my main reason was to check my suspension since my car was making funny clicking noises between the speeds of 20-30mph. Any mechanic would notice that I have leaking around my CV boots and tell me that I might want to check my drive train especially since I take this vehicle off-roading. I ended up getting a second opinion from another mechanic in Sacramento and he suggested that I change the axle. I got one more opinion from my mechanic in Truckee and he said the same thing and we actually changed it. So unfortunately, after you change the driveline you need to get an alignment again. They already charged me $300+ for the alignment which I didn't need. I really needed a new front axle. So I called them on Tuesday and I explained the situation and they said they would give an alignment over the phone. I arrive today and they totally said that I had to pay for an alignment because I got the front axle installed somewhere else. I wasn't trying to get a free alignment. I was an unhappy customer because my car was unsafe to drive and they didn't help me with my concerns. Instead they just offered the same service they give to everyone. So take note: only go here for basic alignment needs. They can't handle anything else. I told them straight up that I was an unhappy customer and they didn't do anything to resolve that issue. I think they have great mechanics, but their management and customer service needs work! Please go else where if you're looking for good customer service and more custom work. I'm giving them two stars vs one because they have a mobile unit that was fairly quick. Used the service/business in May. Two new tires because I had a flat. One of the tires just went flat. That happens. At another tire service. They asked if I wanted "another used tire". News to me! I was never told it was used and I paid full price for a new tire. Not happy. read more

Why should tire repair and service equal drudgery and be painful? Why can't the folks who work at tire places have fun and enjoy each other? And why can't that happy playful attitude not be shared with the customers? My wife's car got a nail and due to her work schedule, vs mine... I was anointed to take it in. She first went to a place I refuse to go back to. So she must've googled Dons asked if they had her tire in stock, in case the nail that caused the issue in the first place did irreparable damage... not far fetched considering she drove on it all morning. I show up and am warmly greeted by Denise and the other ladies behind the counter. After punching in my information and enjoying the ladies banter with each other and customers alike, I decide to ask Denise about my whip which unfortunately has expensive ass tires. Not to mention the back ones are bigger than front eliminating rotation options which cuts the life of the warranty in half Denise told me. She looked up several options and provided quotes on two brands for consideration. Both seemed close to what I get at my discount chain store. But frankly this is less than 3 miles from my house and way more convenient. 5 minutes later she checked on the nail and tire and happily reported they were able to remove and patch it for a grand total of 35 bones. I thought I'd be there half the afternoon bringing my earbuds etc to do some work. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. I'm definitely going to consider them for my own tires, which have to be special ordered regardless of where I go. Fast friendly service with a gaggle of smiling faces makes dealing with tires as close to a fun happy event as you can get! read more

These guys are nice and all but they do dumb stuff frequently enough I just can't go here anymore. One time I left after a tire swap and they had inflated a single (!) tire to 62PSI - the recommended for my car was 42. That is extremely dangerous and I was lucky I checked when I got home. Then their alignment "expert" told me toe-out in the front reduces turn-in which is completely wrong. A ten-year-old doing Gran Turismo knows this but not their expert (look it up). They slather your rims with gobs of messy wax that's more of a pain than a help. Just now my wife came back after I had her get the two back tires of her Model 3 replaced with new ones but the woman at the counter told her that no, her car wears more in front which is completely wrong for a rear wheel drive Model 3 which has all that torque and wear at the back so they did the opposite of what they should have done and sent her home with a car that will be sketchy in rain soon as the old tires in the rear wear more and those shiny new fronts grip a lot causing dangerous oversteer. I blew a tire late at night, had a spare on the car till the morning, drove over to these folks they ordered the tire, and had me back on the road the next day. The last time I used this service, I had a good experience. This time, however, it can all be summed up with the little bottle they keep on their main counter. It is filled with cutouts of the word F*ck with a label saying that they don't give them out, or something like that. Not something CustomerService would fool with I found the two ladies behind the counter to be totally inefficient and we're simply wasting everyone's time. As they were multitasking and doing more of each other's work they became even more ineffective. I walked away as things did not appear to get better. I've gotten at least 2 sets of tires from them over the years and they are always super knowledgable and helpful. This is a strange review I've been here before and got good service . This time I made an appointment to have my transmission fluid level checked and two senses installed. The fluid check is simple 5 minutes the sensors have one little screw holding them 10 minutes each . I arrived my appointment at 1:00 and got a text at 1:55 then my car was ready for pickup. I was sitting in the waiting room and walked to the counter and told I had to pay for 2 hours. I argued that I got there at 1:00 and my car was done at 1:55 and they said you can't have your key unless you pay us for 2 hours. In my opinion I got ripped off and I'll never go back there again. Customer Service Alive & Well at Don's Tire Service: I was a more than dismayed when the mechanic for my pre-trip inspection indicated that I should really get new tires and he directed me to Don's (at 4:15p) I called ahead and I was met in the parking lot to verify they had the tires in stock, handed over the keys and rolled out by 4:55p- it was just like the Indy 500!! Along with a 9a appt the next day for alignment! I felt very well cared for especially when we ran into that freak late May "winter storm" in Colorado with 6-9" of snow. So happy! read more

I had a flat repaired on my Prius. The first problem was that the tire was improperly balanced, which Don's corrected. When I had the tires replaced, it was found that whoever had worked on the tire had broken the pressure sensor and rather than replacing it had simply taped it to the tire. Since nobody else had ever worked on the tire, it must have happened at Don's. It cost over $200 to have this part replaced. read more
