I've had Dons cut several car keys for me over the years and they've always been spot on. Great service for an always fair price.

I've been using Don't lock and key for rentals for a few years now. They always show up on time and do great work. Yesterday though they really helped us out. Our office door has been extremely difficult to lock for years. While re-keying the door for us, technician Buddy noticed how difficult getting it aligned was and fixed it without being asked. We can now get our door locked without jiggling and using both hands to turn the key. Everyone in our office is just thrilled with how it works now. We couldn't be happier. read more

I had used them to get rental properties re-keyed, so I called about getting a car key programmed. The guy on the phone was rude, basically telling me that I should call during regular business hours if I wanted to pay regular prices. I never said it was urgent and I didn't expect them to answer the phone after hours in the first place. Most companies have a message that tells people to call another phone number for after hours emergencies. I will not be using them in the future. read more

1 star because they produced a working key WOW! I had to create a yelp account just to review these people. I only had 1 remote key for my car and the key broke off the remote. I did extensive research on what i needed to do, the cheapest way. Found out that i could buy a blank key remote from amazon and just put in the old button/chip combo from my old remote. It cost me about $8 and all i had to do was get my key cut from a locksmith, and bam it would work. So i called dons and they said it would cost $40, i thought this was expensive as i was quoted $5 at ace hardware ( Ace gave me run around that they were scared to cut my key do to the "complex" cut). I left. So i just used a rubberband to hold my key to the remote (only way it would start the car). One nightt i lost my key and all i had was a remote to open the doors. So, i finally go to Don's lock and key and tell them i just need a key cut, but i don't have a copy. Now they come out that it will cost me $60. I had no other choice and needed to move my car. The lady working there (50's hispanic looking) said okay, until a bit younger caucasian guy comes in and says that there is a "special chip" my key needs to start. This dude had the most serious look on his face, and i almost believed him (but i remembered my research). I told him no, it will work. After trying to get me to budge multiple times and charge me $150+ he finally stopped trying. It was a horrible experience, the guy's tone was all wrong and talked to me in a condescending way (maybe cuz im in my early 20s). Once i paid i told the lady and the guy thank you, only to get no response and not even a nod. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place based on pure customer service. I do not care that they are part of AAA, their customer service is crap. I suggest you try anywhere else in this area. PS guy, it worked just like i told you it would. Jerk read more

Needed a key made for a firebox. Called and was quoted $10. I walk in and was greeted with a smile and taken card of right away. This place is cool as well. They are fans of Batman. Highly recommend this place if you need a key or a firebox opened. read more

I have mixed reviews for this place. Last week, they came and rekeyed a friend's house. They did not know it was due to a domestic violence incident. Last night, the aggressor came to the house and changed the lock. The police advised us until the temporary restraining order can be served (it has been ordered) to change the locks again just in case. Don's REFUSED to come help us unless there is a court order. I explained what the police said and that we have a restraining order against the one who came in last night. The police said we don't need a court order. They said well, our policy is that you have one. Couldn't believe it. Ladies, don't use this place. They don't support women when they get abused... read more

Called to get pricing on changing locks. When they answered they mumbled the company's name, I didn't understand him so I said hello, and waited then they hung up! I called back and once again a mumble and I said hello is this Don Lock and Key? I then asked about pricing. He said we are closed today you will have to call back tomorrow after 9am. I said you don't have to do it today I am just curious about pricing! He asked where are you and then gave me pricing. $55 for service and $20 per lock. I said thank you and then he hung up. Maybe a grumpy moment for the guy, but very rude! read more

Called first to get a 2nd GM key fob programmed. Rude lady on the phone practically accused me of stealing my own vehicle but eventually quoted me a price of $60. I was putting off going down to this place but eventually I did. Guy asked me where I bought the key fob from "eBay it's suppose to be genuine" he made a remark "they always say that" grabbed his scantool from his truck and after several minutes told me his scantool doesn't even have my vehicle and rattled off some long dead GM models. Maybe if you bought less Batman Crap and had modern or updated scantools you could have completed the task that the lady on the phone lied to me and said you could do it. I despise people who quit and give up. read more

5 Stars Plus! Had a great experience with Damon from Don's he was awesome and so helpful. I had to rekey my business and add our new location next door. It could of been quite confusing but he handled it and made a ton of keys quickly for our salon girls. How great is it when u can call on a Saturday at 11 and have excellent customer service by 2pm. Just so u know even my neighbor at my place of business in Riverwalk Plaza the other lock and key place could not give me a definite time or appointment due to the fact that they put Triple AAA CLIENTS before anyone else, all they could say is matbe next Tuesday. I have used this company twice in the last 12 months to rekey the front door of my office building due to employee turnover. Both times they came out within the window they specified for a same day appointment and did exactly what I needed them to do for a reasonable price. On this most recent order I shopped around a little bit and found other locksmiths in the area to be a little more expensive than these guys. Easy, quick, and relatively inexpensive place to come in and copy your keys. Any time I need to copy my keys I come in and usually have my extra set within 10 minutes. I haven't used any of their other services but I would suggest coming here for key copies. read more

I've had some problems with my ignition on my Jeep Grand Cherokee locking on me and not being able to start it. Today my son was stranded and could not get it started. I called AAA and they sent Dons Lock and Key out. Not only did they show up in the amount of time they promised the woman I spoke to was very helpful with my payment since I was not where the vehicle was and the locksmith was quick and helpful and got my son back on the road in no time. It took 60 minutes for the guy to show up and instead of calling me to ask where I was he circled the parking lot for 10 minutes and the vehicle he was in was unmarked or I would have called the company to let them know where I was. It was 75. It took him 2 minutes to unlock. Wasnt friendly but neither was I because I thought it was stupid that it took so long. read more

After an exhausting 13 hr shift at work, I accidently dropped my car keys into trunk and closed it! AAA said since I had a BMW that they would have to use an independent contractor....Don's Lock and Key...it did take 1.5 hrs for him to arrive but he was awesome! Service was quick, got my 1999 Jeep Cherokee key cloned. Cost was $80 as it had a transponder in it. I didn't bring the vehicle with me but was very pleased to find that it worked perfectly when I got home. Parking lot was not ideally situated, but service was good. read more

I had a great experience with Don's. I needed a new key cut and programmed since I lost my second key. I called around a lot of places and quite a few are not even able to cut a key for my C-max, much less program it. Angel did an awesome job making and programming a difficult key. Called at 11am on my only day off to get my safe opened containing documents I needed under crunch time. The "helpful" person on the phone was unable to provide me any information on the their rates and assured me hurriedly that she would have the locksmith return my call as soon as he/she returned. I unbolted my safe and loaded it up (with the help of 3 people) to unfortunately never recieve a returned call. A courtesy call back would have been nice had he been unavailable. This place is great. My wife lost the key to the car and it was the only one we had. Darin came out and programmed the new key and even made sure it worked the trunk (the only key my wife was given when she bought the car was the valet key.) He even said if we found the other key we could bring it down and they would program it to the car again. We found it and took it to them and in about 5 minutes it was programmed. Unfortunately when the tech guy Darin came out to make me a key, he talked me into disconnecting my alarm on my Toyota Yaris .He said he was experienced at this and pressed on and convinced me to disconnect my alarm that came with the car when I bought it brand new from Toyota. Worst mistake I ever made listen to g to Darin. My car alarm only needed to be reset with the auto key I was to purchase at Toyota. I only needed a manual key made to drive it there. Darin left me with a horn that wouldn't shut off and all airbags are connected to the same unit in engine as the alarm& horn. I later found out that this is common knowledge for any mechanic who works with alarms . When I called Dons Lock and Key to ask Darin to come out and put my alarm back in it's original state , he refused and to come out to look at it. Since this episode I have learned a few things: Don't have a mechanic talk me into something I know nothing about, like car alarms. Don't trust anyone jut the dealership to reset my car alarm, don't trust Darin to ever keep his word about how convincing and knowledgeable he is about car alarms. He created a mess of my engine and costly to have Toyota repair his damage . I would never allow this tech from Dons Lock and Key near my car and I don't know how he can sleep at night knowing the predicament he left me on with my car. I'm helping my brother raise his little six year old grandson for 5 years now. I had to make sure my car was safe, dependable and in good condition concerning the airbags, alarm and horn. I realized the tech wouldn't come out to even look at the damage he caused due to he really didn't know how to fix it. I wouldn't let him touch my car now no matter what. I don't want money, I juts want all of you to know how wrong Darin was and how strongly against resolving the mess he created. I don't know how he sleeps at night with a good conscience. Don's Lock and Key used to be good, however this was not the case yesterday when I stopped in. I spoke with a woman over the phone saying they can duplicate a Masterlock key just by telling them the engraved key code on the key it'self ( left the key inside a company vehicle that departed far away), I even gave them the lock series. So I drive down and pay $10 for a custom key (I figured it could be a hit or miss), I also duplicated one house key at the price of $2. Anyways I drive back to my house only to find out the custom key does not work, so right away $10 wasted. What's even worse is that my duplicated house didn't work either... What a joke this place is, Iv'e had keys made at Ace Hardware that works perfectly fine. Iv'e even used an automated key machine in a supermarket which also worked, apparently duplicating one house key is far beyond your capability. Thanks for nothing and your welcome for the measly $12 I spent. read more

When my entire purse was stolen, (car keys inside and i had a wedding to be at 4 hours.) I called Dons Lock and Key... I was freaking out because I have FOB ( push to start car) and no one could do it. The first younger lady i spoke too, came off as rude so i was a little worried... was first quoted $400 and which was okay, because i NEEDED to get into my car and get ready... then a much nicer and prompter lady called back and asked me if i had AAA and i do so that took off $100 and i learned that the driver was already en route.The driver arrived with in 30 minutes and had me in my car with in the hour... if i ever have any problems, i know who i am calling and referring. thank you. read more

i recently had occassion to obtain price quotes for services offered by don*s lock and key in riverside .ca. the gal ,, i think her name was liz or lisa,, was so rude and short with me that i was flabbergasted and could not even speak for a moment,, she mad me feel like i was putting her out asking for price quotes,, this establishment came highly recommended so i tried again the following day,, just in case it was me,,,, got a different gal this time,, it's clear as a bell that these women have no idea how to treat people,, let alone potential customers,, my best friend loved don's place ,,its obvious we did not have similar experiences. read more

I locked my keys in the trunk of my 2010 camaro. Called triple AAA 2 different trucks came to help and couldn't get the door open. No luck. I called a locksmith they showed up 3 hours later and wanted 379.00 to make a key. That's when I called Dons and they sent Frank the locksmith within an hour he was there opened the lock without making a key and it was covered by AAA. Thanks Frank great job!!! read more

I am very disgusted with Dons Lock and Key. Our daughter had locked her keys in her 2002 Nissan Altima. My wife called Dons Lock and Key and asked what they charge to unlock the car. The Dons Lock and Key representative stated that it would be $19 for the travel charge and $35 to unlock the car. When they Dons Lock and Key person showed up, he told my wife it would be $130.00 because the car is difficult to unlock. My wife told him she received a quote of $54. The Dons Lock and Key guy said they do not give over the qoutes. When my wife told him to leave, he said he could knock off $30.00 from the price. She told him no. We called Pop-a-Lock and they opened the car for their quoted price of $44.95. read more

I own a newer Ford that uses a "chipped key" (which starts the car), and needs to be programmed by a locksmith, or with a $100+ device from Amazon. We lost the first (or second?) car key and needed to get our spare both cut and programmed. A technician happened to be available/in the office when I visited Don's on a Monday afternoon, and programmed the chip in the key for $30. If you are a AAA Premier Member, read the fine print. The AAA website states the Premier membership will cover the cost of a "lost" or broken" key, under the Locksmith provision, up to $150. After I called AAA the day of the programming, they refused to help with our lost key. "You can still drive the vehicle - so it doesn't count", was their response. Even through our first key was lost, AAA fell through and failed us today, but Don's Lock & Key helped us out for a reasonable amount. read more
