Took too long to seat us. My Fish was wonderful, but fries were overcooked. Corned beef was stringy and dry. Potatoes were OK. Cabbage was good. Complained to server but still was charged for the meal. Person next to us only ate her cabbage. Did give us a dessert free. read more

Stopped in while visiting a friend to hear some live music and grab a drink. Band was so very subpar, and the drinks were not great. Left after 15 min. The JP Chenet Brut was so gross that it was barely drinkable and the Blueberry Lemonade was very basic too much Lemonade and not hint of mint. read more

Outstanding service, food, and ice cold beer! Our 2 appetizers, chicken fingers and Ruben egg roll, were a whole meal! We took a bite of our Patty Melts-delicious!- and had to take them home because we could not eat any more. Our server, Ms Haighleigh (spelling? it's pronounced Hayley) was the greatest. So professional, happy, and helpful. It is sad but such great service is so uncommon these days. My wife and I were thrilled to have such a great lunch experience. We visit St Augustine every 5 or 6 weeks to see our Daughter, Son in Law, and Grand children and we needed a nice place to have lunch when we got off the Interstate. We found it! we used to go to Donovan's on a regular basis, but lately the restaurant has made a steep decline. When you first walk in you are hit with the smell of heavy disinfectant, dirty floors and dusty tables. We had always ordered the Reuben or the patty melt sandwiches since they were the best in the area. This time they were dry, skimpy and tasteless. We went to Donovan's to watch the playoff game Jags vs chiefs and have a good time, we stayed for the game from the beginning of the game until the end, and before the ending of the game in the 3rd quarter she came up to us acting surprised that all we spent for the game was $70. She was rushing us to leave the table for about an hour so I decided she did not deserve more than $5.29 as a tip. Once we were walking out the restaurant we made it to the outside and she chased us down asking how much I tipped her which was very obvious in the amount and when I gave her the reasoning on why she got the amount she did she stormed off without saying a word. Definitely order a BOWL of Donovan's Famous Beer Cheese Soup. Yum. I'm not a huge Irish food fan especially when I'm trying to watch my waistline, but this place is better than your average Irish Pub. The service here was fantastic and the entire staff was super friendly. Our food was delicious, came out fresh, hot and in great time. The portions are huge and very filling. Great for groups and sharing some food. The inside of the restaurant reminds me of my days back in college drinking it up at good ole' Bennigan's (minus the pitchers of beer this time). They have the same layout with the bar in the center of the restaurant and TV screens everywhere you turn. It's pretty spacious and plenty of room for crowds. I would say this is more of a family restaurant with a very chill atmosphere and proper service located in a small strip mall near the Palencia & World Gold Village neighborhoods in St. Augustine, FL. I really had a terrific experience at Donovan's with my family. Our waitress was very patient and accommodating. Only once did my sister need to ask to have her soda filled, but she was taking care of an entire section by herself. In addition, I like how dark it is in there anytime of day which creates a very relaxing atmosphere to eat. Overall, the prices are standard, but their portions are really HUGE & my mom paid so that wasn't much of an issue. The burgers here are flavorful and juicy (surprisingly really outstanding). My buffalo chicken salad hit the spot with their blue cheese and ranch dressings on the side. The wings are solid and their Award Winning Corned Beef Reuben was pretty tasty if you like Reubens. Next time, I'm just going to bite the bullet and get the half order of Beer Battered Fish & Chips like the waitress recommended because it's not an every day meal and they really looked delicious here. Screw my waistline. And i will have a bowl of that savory beer cheese soup--not just the one spoonful that my mom let me have. :P read more

Crackin' good, Donovan's! Third stop on our US1 pub crawl! Something of a sports bar though warm and welcoming. Maybe it was the happy, friendly hospitality or we were sevearl pints in but we liked it here. Overwhelmingly busy for some, no doubt, but so well handled we never felt wanting. Wonderfully perfect Guinness served up by a most omnipotent lass in all her Irish glory. ;) We didn't stay long or order food but we should have looking back. Definitely a must do. read more

I like this place! Fun casual atmosphere, service is fine though servers tend to disappear at some point and hard to get their attention. As far as the food, they have some unique, tasty dishes and a good menu selection. I have liked all of the selections I've tried. Sticky floor, doesn't feel super clean. Ate at this great restaurant/bar on a Sunday a few weeks ago. I enjoyed one of the best corned beef and cabbage plates I've had in the States. Others ordered "Irish" onion rings which were huge, and the fried haddock. Not sure how popular the haddock was. Wow not good at all. I got the corned beef and cabbage which I was hoping would be an easy typical thing to get right. They shred the corned beef which I have never heard of. It seems like this is their way to stretch out the leftovers. Mine was def cooked days ago and reheated it was completely dry and not edible like jerky. Everything was greasy that came with it the cabbage and potatoes. Please go a few miles north and get good Irish food. What an awful experience. read more

My husband and I met friends for dinner here on Saturday night (08/14/21). Our server came to the table immediately and took our drink orders. She brought our drinks and then asked us about ordering an appetizer. She recommended the pretzel bites, so we got two orders of those. They came out right away and were nice and hot; they were crunchy and salty on the outside and soft on the inside. We ordered our meals: two fish and shrimp dinner specials, loaded nachos, the Dublin cheesesteak, and the corned beef and cabbage. IT WAS ALL EXCELLENT! All of the meals were brought to the table promptly, and everything was hot and delicious! Very generous portions! We will definitely be back! We got lucky to have this right in our neighborhood. If it was an hour a way we would still come here. Yes there's a bar and yes sometimes there's music, if that's your thing, they have it. BUT we have two young ones and we like to find places where loud kids won't bother Rhône neighbors and have a table off to ourselves. This is perfect for us, music is never too loud, bar is always chill. We have at everything on the menu at this point. We literally cannot find something on the menu we would not give five stars. No ones paying me to say this and I've never met the first owner. The nachos are my favorite appetizer anywhere, get the corned beef on top , it's so tasty, we also get the homemade pub chips instead of the tortillas and they are killer! My favorite so far has to be the Shepard's pie with beef , served with the sourdough rolls. The baked cheese and bread crumbs on top give this dish an amazing texture. Don't forget the bangers and mash . The sausage is so tender and juicy and the Guinness gravy with red onions is amazing over the Irish mash. I get this often. My wife loves the Irish pot roast with perfectly cooked veggies and the gravy again, so amazing. They nail the fish and chips, haven't had it better anywhere. They have a solid steak fry or many other sides or soups. Their sandwiches are perfect, try the buffalo chicken with their blue cheese, it's so tasty and perfectly breaded and fried. The patty melt is one of my favorite burgers. Last thing I will say is their beer and drink choices are second to none. If you like a Guinness, they always serve it at a perfect temp and pour . Wait staff is always consistent and always attentive. Live music is very good sometimes and they don't overdue the volume . I would say this place is very kid friendly and I hope they stay in business for a long time. By the way, they do takeout and their food travels well. The only thing I can say is it's well Worth the money, as some of the prices are a little high for this type of food and the other eateries around, but it's totally worth it. read more

If there was a -10 that would be m rating for my experience there tonight. I was one of the first to order and last to be served: Finally, after everyone was nearly half finished eating, I flagged her do (NOT ONCE did she come back to ask ANYONE if their meals were ok and if they needed anythin the entire nigh).. I flagged her down AGAIN, and she said it was "out of her contro, and I said I needed water, but it was about 20 minutes later when I got my food-never got water. She had convinced me that the corned beef was much better this year after I told her the previous year I did not like at all, IT WAS HORRIBLE!! I've lived all over US and Europe, and it was the WORST EVER!! Shredded dry, and not the traditional tender brisket. She didn't take my cc when she took others, (I went to bathroom to try to sip water from faucet but it didn't work! and she took my cc while I was gone!) NOTHING said about the food when it was obvious I had eaten very little, so when I flagged her down again, the 3rd time, she told me she couldn't do anything about the bill when she had already taken the entire bill off of a lady's near me who complainEd about her food. Finally a friend stepped in to help. Then the manager I requested started lecturing me about screaming at her, I looked around NOT ONE PERSON WAS EVEN LOOKING AT US!!!". Finally the manager shut up and I asked her to just please take care of bill. It took her less than 2 minutes so it WAS possible. I NEVER GOT MY WATER AND LEFT HUNGRY. HORRIBLE DRY, NEARLY UNCHEWABLE shredded corned beef. And worst service and management EVER!! Both my adult children worked as servers so it's not like I don't know what I'm talking about. Good selection of beer on tap and of course cocktails. Not big on the food. My fish tasted like it had been frozed too long, and the crust was too thick for my taste. Also, and I know its not the time of the year for lemons, but to specifically say to the tartar sauce but request lemon, and to get one small wedge that normally would go in a water glass, is not my idea of lemon. Asked a second time for more lemon and was told they would check to see if there was any more, this was on a Friday night at 6pm. I did, however, like the appetizer my friend ordered.
