So last night me and my friend who went there had a very poor time because near the end of the night he was trying to get a drink and a guy next to him was getting a drink also, and the lady who is the bartender asked whose card she had in my friend was just trying to let her know that it was the guy next to him and she said who are you stay out of it keep your mouth shut and was being very rude to my friend and he was just trying to tell her that it was the guy next to him and she said don't yell at me and there was no way he could have yelled because his voice was very raspy so there was no way he could have yelled at her. Even the guy next to him was like dude what is she getting mad at you for you're just trying to help out, and then the white guy behind the bar would look like he was homeless kicked him out and said he was done for the night and when I asked him what exactly my friend did to warrant him getting kicked out he said there doesn't need to be a reason I totally disagree with that I would like a reason why I would get kicked out and if my friend literally did nothing wrong and I saw the whole thing and your bartender was on an attitude swing then you need to check your people because my friend feels she was being very biased towards him because he was black. And if that's the case then we're going to report you guys for being prejudiced against certain patrons. Been going there for years. Have spent so much money there. Saturday night the bartender thought she could switch out kettle one for well vodka. Denied it but she knew. This place is oh so Meh. My first time impression was that this place was very casual and one dimensional even during prime Saturday night hours. They had a live country band to their credit, but it was too loud for conversation in the small space. Pool table queues were really long as well, leaving us without the ability to socialize and nothing to do there except watch the band and sip on drank. I DDed but they had some promising sounding concoctions, including one named The Leg spreader. I think the next door Sushi place was a better going out spot. read more

Ok... I had high hopes for this place because 1) it's close by, 2) it's always packed, and 3) I heard it was a place to check out. And... No. I feel bad giving it only ONE star because it's not my scene so I give it two for all the Modesteans that do like it. It's an interesting bar... Too lit (as in lighting) for my taste. Especially since theres a "dance floor"... and of all places, near the dart boards?? There are two pool tables. And lots of guys standing around.... the guy to girl ratio is WAY off. And there always seems to be some ordeal going on because cops are always there (either because of this place or Torii's). They do have a happy hour with $2 beers, $3 kamikaze, and $5 patron shots. Unfortunately, last weekend was looking for a fun night out and stumbled across Donoby's because our original hang out was farther away. The bartenders are so rude. From the start they acted like it's an inconvenience to serve us a draft beer. The female bartender even said her night was "annoying as f@$&!" To someone else who asked her. The beer was good and the price was fine, but overall the customer service was awful. I feel like if you don't want to serve people, don't be a bartender. Service was average slow for not being very busy yet. A vender came through with free samples which was nice. One of our drink orders never came so we ordered at the bar counter. The live music was really good. Of course there is no smoking inside, but the front and back doors are open and smokers stand outside in front of the door to smoke and the wind drags it inside. My bf and I came here on a a Thursday for a quick game of pool, and I know it was close to closing but bartender was suuuuper friendly. I believe her name was Amy* and the security was equally friendly allowing us to play a quick game. Sometimes you just want to play a late game of pool, ya know? She gladly let us take a quick shot and play a full game of pool; no rushing- no awkwardness. I would gladly come back here again because I felt so comfortable and not rushed. Always has a ... Different crowd . Prices on drinks are fair .. But sometimes incorrect . (We ordered Jameson on st pattys they were $5 shots. We ordered 4 and our bill was $24 ) FYI they charge for pickle juice .50 cents extra . They had free corn beef and cabbage on st pattys 2016 which I thought was awesome ! We go to and have been going to Donobys for YEARS!! We like how close it is to our house, the jukebox, pool tables and darts. However, the last 5 times we have gone the experience has been horrible due to the bartenders. They are extremely RUDE and it's obvious they do not want to be there working. They need to be fired! They don't even smile... They need to go find another profession because I'm sure they arnt making good tips there with the shitty attitude they have. I'm personally not a fan of Donobys from past experiences but it was GNO & we ended up here so I gave this place another try! Pretty asian woman with the short blonde hair, Amy, she's phenomenal & hard working! She's very friendly, always making sure we're okay with our drinks. Even dealing with the drunks she encounters on a daily basis she works with a smile on her face. (Knowing me, I wouldn't be able to put up with half of the people that walk in there with their snobby attitudes) Regardless of who you are Amy will treat you with the upmost respect! I come here every now and then when I know Amy is working the night! Love her and I don't see why people would ever talk down on her when she has the kindest soul ever. 4 out of 5 starts because of my past experience. If Amy was working when I came across this bar a long time ago I would give it 5! read more

We had never visited this place. For a random bar on a Sunday morning this was fantastic. Great place to play darts, have a drink, listen to music, and if your hungry have a bite. Went there with my wife and some friends last Saturday, and we absolutely love this place. The night time bartenders are all awesome and friendly. And They're security are funny and helpful. They kept our table clear of empty glasses and checked if we wanted new drinks all night. The crowd was a good mix of different people, so definitely a great place for people watching. They could use a better happy hour special, but that's the only negative thing I can say about this place. Definitely going to make going there a regular thing. read more

1 star! Yesterday me and my girls walked into Donobys. As soon as we walked in, one of the bartenders rushed (As if we stole something) to us and right away asked for I.D's. The issue wasn't her asking us for our I.D's, it was her approach. She could've came about it in a much different & 'welcoming' way. Came to donobys tonight and because my ID wouldn't scan they refused to let me in. I have multiple cards with my name but the security guard refused. He clearly couldn't calculate my date of birth. Might I add this is the second experience I've had with security not letting us in for identification issues when ID was ALWAYS present. I do not understand how a California ID is not a valid ID. This place is strict for no apparent reason. Sorry donobys but you lost a good amount of money and we won't be returning, EVER. Worst bar ever. read more

The experience.... Show up at 1:30 because this is that kinda bar. It's already a last resort. They say it's almost last call. Stand at the bar for five minutes while one of the bartenders chats with her friends. Your friend goes to the bathroom and entrusts you with her drink order. You finally get your order taken. Very sad to see this bar change into a 20 something brat bar.. Music is way too loud to have a conversation and they let WAY too many people in at one time (which makes sense cause u have to be rubbing on someone for them to hear you) But if you like Tribal Tattoos, fake tans and princesses that spend the whole night texting this is the place for you. cause thats all youll find. While I don't know why it is listed as a bar and grill even though it doesn't sell any food other than chips, I love this place. Had some of my best memories of Modesto in it. Some high school friends were in town so we thought we'd check out the neighborhood bar "Do Naughties" that seems to be packed with people. We were here for just a few minutes and decided to go. First time visitor, this bar was crowded. It was nice that it had lots of people in it compaired to some bars or dives but could barely get services due to how packed it was with only 2 bar tenders. Drinks were mixed well and the prices were not to bad. I have been to other bars and asked for 2 long island drinks top shelf (which means the higher end alcohol ) and ended up paying $25 for both plus a tip. Here it was $18 and tip. My experience at Donoby's is nothing like the reviews I've seen Posted. I always get a good drink at a decent price. You will always come across a few gang bangers and douche bags wherever you go, however it's more uncommon to come across low lifes at Donoby's. The owner is always there and is very generous and makes you feel very welcome like a part of the family. Ive been going there for years and will continue to do so. So. It would be in your best interest to give Donoby's a try, it's a very clean, comfortable , laid back bar. read more
