This was my first time at Donna's. Went for lunch and got a a medium king fish plate. They have one of the better rice and peas and gravey of the main stream Jamaican restaurants. I'm giving them 3 stars because the king fish was really tough. Not sure it's supposed to be that tough and dry. Overall everything else was great and they have a good lunch special read more

We have had very good experiences at all the Donna's restaurants that we have tried. So we were hoping this would be as good. And, yes, it was. They face Powerline Rd in an industrial area so they were a lot busier at lunch than we realized. You line up to order. They were packed when we got there with a line almost out the door! Luckily the line moved fairly fast. They have a number of lunch specials -- which is what most everyone was ordering to go. They do have a few 2-top tables inside and a couple on the sidewalk. We decided to eat in. We both ordered their stewed chicken. We got it with peas n rice (their peas are red beans), plantains, and salad. The cut up chicken pieces were tender and flavorful. We asked for extra sauce on the rice -- the brown sauce is delicious. You have to use fingers to get all the meat off the bones, but it is worth it. You order and pay at the counter. All food comes in to go boxes. We loved our lunches. There are fine other items like oxtail and fried snapper I'd like to try as well. We'd definitely go back to this Donna's. read more

After working long hours, I was very tired and hungry, and this humidity was not making me feel any better. I was not sure what kind of food I wanted, but I know I wanted something filling. I went on yelp and searched for Caribbean restaurants near me. I scrolled through the list and decided to go to Donna's Caribbean Restaurant. It was about a mile away from where I was and I experienced their food at the Pembroke Pines location, so I know the food's good. Located along Powerline Rd., Donna's offers breakfast, lunch, entrees, vegetarian dishes, sides, desserts, cold beverages, and natural juices at reasonable prices. Upon entering you would see a long broad counter where you order your food on one side and make your payment on the other side. Trays of various foods that was served were kept warm in the middle. There is no table seating at this location. After overlooking the menu displayed on the wall, one of the employees prepared my order - brown stew chicken, which was served with rice & peas, fried plantains, and a small salad. Once I received my food, I quickly sat in my vehicle to eat. It was delicious and hitting the spot. The rice & peas was cooked to a soft consistency; the chicken was browned nicely, tender and full of flavor. The plantains was fried nicely and was sweet, and the salad was freshly prepared, but had no dressing or vinaigrette added. I was so hungry that I didn't even care. I ate it as plain as it was. I feel so much better. I will surely return when I want food from Donna's again. read more

Unfortunately my Mother's Day breakfast was ruined this morning. First of all, they didn't have any cornmeal porridge, boiled banana, or Aki. The fish I got was so dry it was like salted bubble gum I couldn't even swallow. We were so grossed out we couldn't even eat our meals. At this point I will never come back to this place. The only reason they got this one star is because I had to put at least one. If I could've put zero I would have! As a black woman, I try really hard to support black business especially during this pandemic but I'm so sick of black businesses with this piss poor service. I called to place an order that they refused to take it over the phone. I specifically asked what time they stopped taking orders as it was close to closing and was told they take orders until close. Why then, when I arrived to place my order before closing was the door already locked and an employee looking at me through the window while already cleaning up? It's ridiculous that employees are closing before closing time. If you close at 10, cleaning should not be happening until after 10. Never again. read more

I've had great oxtails from Donna' s. However I will say that the food is not consistent with good flavors and recently I ordered jerk pork. I took a bite size piece and ate it and had some sort of fiberous strand in my teeth. I pull out my teeth, what looked like hair ( it may not be but it sure looked like it or the hair from a pig) it was jerk pork! So I examined it closely and it was throughout the dish. I'm not a yelper and I hate yelpers myself. But this is a good platform when the restaurant doesn't seem to care about little issues. I ordered a fried chicken lunch over white rice with a side of mac n cheese. Simple. Mac n cheese was left behind. Upon calling the restaurant, the only option given to me was to DRIVE back for it. Maybe I ordered delivery for a reason. Now I ate chicken over rice and would've come back home for cold food should I have decided to drive. Gotta go to work. Little upsetting. We visited Donna's a few months ago when I was desperately craving Caribbean food. Our new neighborhood is like a Caribbean food dead zone, so we don't get to have it as much as we use to. Donna's is a chain that I haven't heard the best things about, but we decided to give it a try anyway. My husband and I both ordered large jerk chicken platters. We took quite a while to decide. The ladies working were nothing but sweet and patient with us. Our platters came with rice and peas, sweet plantains, and salad. They also ask what kind of gravy you want. My husband and I both went with the oxtail gravy. Instead of salad I asked for the boiled cabbage and vegetables. This came with a couple dollar up-charge. The manager allowed me to try it before I decided to go with it over the salad. The boiled veggies were super good, so I went with them. She gave me a pretty large sample, so I decided to share the rest with my 1.5 year old. He LOVES vegetables, so I knew he would like it. This little boy kept saying "Mmmmmm" so loudly with each small bite. All of the ladies working though he was so cute and funny. I told the manager that he loves her vegetables. She decided to throw in a large side of the vegetables just for him. Such a nice gesture!! My son definitely appreciated it! We took our food home to enjoy. Everything was really tasty! We especially loved the oxtail gravy on the rice and peas. The jerk sauce was also very tasty. Only issue we saw was that the chicken was a little dry with some bites. Food is usually okay, but you guys need to handle ya'll hands and feet a little faster to get the line moving especially during lunch time. Almost everyone who comes here have work and its usually 30mins or 1 hour lunch time. Can't be spending the whole lunch time in the line thats moving so slow. Move faster or have more workers during the rush hours. read more

The chicken smelled like it was rotten and i could not eat it. When you bite into the chicken, it had a foul odor and look. Went for lunch and got Oxtails $12.99 which is not a lunch special, and the server tried giving me only 2 pieces of meat until I questioned her about it. She did say you're only supposed to get 2 pieces, which I find insane, and to add to the insult the meat was tough. read more

This Donnas on Powerline Rd. needs to get kicked to the curb for a much better Jamaican restaurant. First and foremost, I'm on my lunch break AT WORK, so of course that time is going to fly especially if I'm waiting in a long line. 2) by the time it got to my plate, the lady put two soggy ass wet plantains in my plate (when I did not ask for them) so I told her to take them out. As shes taking out the plantain, she gets preoccupied with other things like wiping the counter, then someone comes out the kitchen and gives her a hug while I'm waiting to be served. Like lady.... I'm pressed for time. I don't have time to watch you hug your coworker. Then when things couldn't get any worse, the lady gives me one watery ass scoop of gravy and doesn't even spread it. She puts it in the corner of the plate then proceeds to give me cabbage (like she wasn't gonna give me anymore gravy) at that point. I did not care I had an attitude. So then the lady rolls her eyes and says " You said you wanted cabbage" so I said Nevermind and walked out of that shit cuz they pissed me off and excuse my language but the Donnas on Powerline needs to be replaced with a much better tasting better service Jamaican restaurant. They're food ain't even all that to be changing $2 extra for steam cabbage. I only settled for them for lunch because they were right by my job. Screw them.
