This office is great!! I see both Julie Oates (midwife) and Dr. Richey (OB). They always are so calm and answer all questions, making me feel very at ease. The ladies at the front are always super bubbly and accommodating, I've never had an issue with scheduling or front desk riff raff, always smooth sailing. Was completely non communicative with the hospital where I was to give birth totally dropped the ball and because of it I had the worst complications. I wanted a natural, unmedicated birth with minimal interventions and that is exactly what I got! Dr. Richey is a kind, gentle, caring, nurturing and supportive doctor which is often hard to find. She listens to your questions and concerns and explains things in a simple way. When she came to my birth, she was quiet, calm, and reassuring. She worked well with our doula, Holly Press (Highly recommend also!), my hubby, the nurses and I. All of our birthing preferences were respected. When stitches were needed, she repaired my bits to look even better than my previous birth repair. Prior to this baby, I had a pregnancy loss. She treated me with such compassion and sympathy. I am truly grateful to her for that. She has a beautiful and spotlessly clean office right across the street from LCOM. All lab work is done right down the hall at a little, private lab. When I found out I was pregnant I wanted to find an ob-gyn in my area. I just searched what my PPO covered near me and called Dr. Richey's office. I wanted to go to my first appt and see what kind of vibe I got from her and keep looking if I wasn't comfortable. Dr Richie is compassionate, kind, and sort of funny when you get to know her. I don't ever feel any judgement from her and she doesn't talk to me in a condescending tone like my last doctor. The only thing I was a little bit unhappy about was that she wasn't my delivering doctor. I do understand she can't be everywhere at once but I would have been more relaxed and comfortable if it was her in there. When I got pregnant for the first time, I was so excited to of found Dr.Richey. How wrong I was. At my first appointment where they could check the baby's heartbeat, she told me everything was great. Come to find out when I miscarried a week later that the heartbeat was astronomically high and should have been a sign to the Dr something was wrong. Wish I could have known to help prepare for the trauma and heartbreak. She also told me to do my genetic testing through 23andMe? Unreal. My new practice wanted me to report her to the board. Dr. Richey is wonderful! She delivered my first child back in 2011 when she was in a private practice with Dr. Ishimaru. For my first child, I wanted a natural birth, and I am happy to share that she really supported my birth plan entirely. At the same time, she is very laid back, calm and simple, so our personalities were a great match. After my first child, she joined the Providence network and it became a little chaotic. I continued with her for my annual women's check-up...etc. The office and waiting area was always packed and too busy. I slightly felt herded around and more of a number than a person. My wife is due for birth is 3 months, and something strange happened with Dr. Richey. We went to an appointment with her and she had a lot of brochures to show us which offered optional genetic testing. I had a funny feeling about this, and as part of her presentation Dr. Richey said since my wife is over 35 years old the procedures would be covered by insurance. I thought there is no purpose to genetic testing of the baby but we agreed because as we both understood there was no cost. Then to our great surprise we started getting bills, the highest about $2800 but there are others for a few hundred here and there. I realized the funny feeling I had was because we were not really at a Dr. consultation but with all the brochures Dr. Richey was giving us a sales pitch, and so I spoke with someone in Dr. Richey's staff and with the company that gave the genetic testing, and they said they were negotiating with our insurance company. Today we got the bill and it is about $850, and with the hundred here and there the cost of the unnecessary genetic testing by Dr. Richey at her sales presentation is maybe $1200. Something is really wrong here and maybe she needs to be reported to the California doctor licensing agency. read more

I work 1 day per week at one of the local hospitals as the Clinical Social Worker up on Women's Health. This means that I get to see what's going on in Labor and Delivery and the NICU. This experience, coupled with my own private psychotherapy/counseling practice (since 1996), as well as my years teaching prenatal yoga and attending births as a doula, has led me to give an over-zealous review for Dr. Richey. She is not alarmist, but presents birth as a "normal" occurrence in your life. She honors your wishes, your desires. She includes your birth partner/coach/doula. Go and meet her and see for yourself! And, for those women reaching perimenoupause/menopause, Dr. Richey will again support you and honor all of your questions. I have found that if we don't become self aware during this part of our lives, that the symptoms can be more exacerbating than need be. I didn't have any problems with this doctor until after I delivered my first child. My pregnancy appeared to be a completely normal pregnancy until my 7-month-checkup where I was told I had dangerously high blood pressure, and sent to the hospital to deliver my child 10 weeks early via emergency C-section 3 hours later. Now, I know doctors can't be everywhere at once but I know I was her last appointment for the day. Given that the hospital is right across the street and I was (in SHOCK) delivering my baby via C-section literally 3 hours later and Dr. Richey never showed up. That was an awful experience and her absence was staggering for me. I really was hoping she was show up or even call within the first 24 hours. Instead, I gave birth on a Thursday and she showed up on Sunday while I was still a patient. 4 days later. The postpartum care was a 180 experience from when I was pregnant. Dismissive, didn't explain very much at all and when I asked how this happened I was told, "Maybe your body had an allergic reaction to the pregnancy." Really?? Maybe she was trying to make a joke, but this is something I wouldn't wish any woman to go through. Not a joking matter. All it takes is a simple google search and a look at my health chart to connect some dots, which I did separately with my primary physician. It took me 3 years to write this review. I have not returned to this office since that statement. Of course, I don't blame her for what happened but this doctor is not for women that want someone who is attentive and present based on my experience. read more

I would highly recommend Doctor Richey for your OB needs. She was my OB with my first pregnancy and I had nothing but a good experience at all of my doctor visits. Once I was in labor, she was there when I checked in but told me that she'd be going off duty shortly and her partner would be delivering my son. I wasn't the least bit nervous about that, I had met her and she was very nice. The delivery went 100% smoothly. Now pregnant with my second child, I have all confidence in using Dr. Richey again as my OB. She is very gentle, kind and gives you confidence. I expressed to her all my worries and she always puts me at ease. Her office staff is very professional and sweet. And the office is very clean. read more

Will use her for Baby #2! I agree with another reviewer who commented on the appointments typically not running on time. I've heard from reception that it is due to her being on call. So, if she gets called away for a delivery, it does tend to push things back. Baby's come when they want to and your appointment means nothing to them. :-) That said, it is annoying when you are going in during your work day, that's why I deducted a star from my review. I picked Dr. Richey because of what other posters said about her belief in the natural process of child birth. I found her very low-key and reassuring. Of course, I had what she called a "very boring" pregnancy. Which was just fine with us! She did recommend the genetic testing, but I have no idea why someone would be getting a bill from her office for it. CA law clearly indicates that the testing has to be done through an independent testing facility. The place I had to go to wasn't even in the same building as Dr. Richey and she tells you the testing is completely your choice. My birth experience was great. I did have to stop pushing, as someone else previously mentioned, so that she could come over and deliver the baby. But that is very typical from my experience and other mother's I've known of how the hospital birth experience works..... What I really loved was the fact that, for my delivery, she did not order pitocin (aka Pit) for my labor as a matter of course, which drove a couple of my nurses crazy! They very much wanted to give me Pit the moment I was checked in, despite the fact that a) I did not want Pit, b) I didn't need Pit as my labor progressed just fine without it while on an epidural. She finally did give the order for Pit when it came time to push, as my delivery slowed at that point. Even the delivery nurse commented on how she thought Dr. Richey was a great OB because she knew when to use Pit and didn't just prescribe it the minute I showed my face in the hospital. Overall, really great experience, so hopefully I will get to use her when we're ready for the next one. read more

She's a competent, skilled physician that I've trusted my care to since I was 18 years old. She's seen me through one pregnancy and was so supportive of my choices and our family. The reason for three stars is over the past couple of years, she's started getting dismissive and I find that unacceptable. I'm a registered nurse, which she knows, (so there's a good knowledge base at home already) and last year I had another incident with an ovarian cyst - not the first time it's happened. I called to see if she could book me for an outpatient ultrasound as I was doubled over in pain and was sure it was another cyst. She blew me off, saying I had diverticulitis (hello, I've never had abdominal problems!) and refused to order the test. That night I ended up in the ER as my primary care MD thought I could have appendicitis, the pain was so localized and excruciating. And guess what I had - two ovarian cysts, one which had ruptured. I find her patient care to be impersonal and brusque, and now that she's displaying poor patient care choices I won't put myself in her care any longer. I've tried switching to her partners, but my appointments get canceled or rescheduled and life is too short. Moving on! Onward and upward. read more

Dr Richey delivered my first daughter when my Ob couldn't. It was an uneventful delivery! Years later when I was pregnant with my second daughter I called her office and made an appointment. She was the same sweet easy going Dr. That I remembered from my first delivery. She is on top of things and calms a nervous pregnant lady! She was my Dr once again for my last child and wasn't there for the delivery. I needed to be induced and she couldn't be there to deliver me, however she came first thing in the morning and broke my water and checked on me as soon as she could after. Her "replacement" was also an amazing Dr. For the person saying that they felt they were in a sales pitch. Dr Richey is very informative, but absolutely does not push any testing on you at all. I am writing this review so that others do not go through what I went through. Like so many others, I went to her after reading so many good reviews on yelp but was thoroughly disappointed. Most of the times, Dr Donna Richie is not on time for an appointment. Not 5, 10 mins, but a good 30-40 mins. No courtesy call from their office to inform of the delay. All that could be forgotten, but the worst part was, she wasn't even on time for the delivery!! The nurse had to forcefully stop me from pushing even after the baby was crowning because the doctor had not arrived. And she was so unapologetic about it too eventually when she arrived. All those going to her after reading positive reviews on yelp, please reconsider, that's all I can say. Hard to believe, but I wish, like others, I had something good thing to say about her. read more

Dr. Richey is the best in the South Bay. Non-alarmist, respectful, believes in normal birth. If you can't get her or Dr. Ishimaru then call Mary Lou O'Brien (a certified midwife) and have a home birth. I am so relieved I found Dr richey. I have placed my trust in medical doctors before and I have been burned one too many times. It was so important for me to find a respectful compassionate physician to take care of my unborn child and I. I have been to four obgyns before I felt confident with the physician and staff. Dr richey was the first doctor to really get to know me. She also taught me what to eat, provided me with safe exercise and travel recommendations, she taught me what over the counter medications to use and so much more. I was overjoyed I finally didn't have to depend on google searches and blogs. She took the time to really listen and I finally felt so comfortable. There are several lovely doctors but this was the kind of connection I wanted. I didn't want my concerns minimized and I wanted to be respected and heard. Dr. Richey is kind and knowledgeable. She has been my ob for many years and delivered our first child. Still, each time I go for an appointment I wait an average of 45min once I'm in the room with my gown on! Every. Single. Time. Sometimes longer. This doesn't account for the time I spend waiting in the waiting room!! I can't take it anymore. I left my most recent appointment after sitting in my gown for 30min. I can't set aside three plus hours (including travel time) every time I need an appointment. I will be looking elsewhere. read more

Dr. Richey didn't give me the correct baby weight estimation at 39 weeks ultrasound. She said the baby is "average weight". However, I had a very difficult and possibly life life threatening labor due to a 10lbs baby. I would not return for Dr. Richey if pregnant again. read more

She is the antidote to the popular book "What to Expect..." which makes you worry about everything you eat and do.
