First of all, I'm an over 60 woman. I old school since I come from the days that women started to talk about and take ownership of their bodies. Dr Shultz and her lovely staff have treated me like a whole person. She takes the time to explain things. She will talk about menopause, sex, and in my most recent experience, the mental, physical and emotional parts of an unplanned hysterectomy. There are two other doctors in the practice and I have had an opportunity to meet them both. I had a really concerning experience with this doctor. After my biopsy, I was told I had a rare case involving all three CIN 1, 2, and 3, that it could potentially be cancer, and that I needed surgery. Hearing that was extremely scary and caused a lot of stress. But something didn't sit right with me, because the Pap smears I had the last three years all came back normal, so to get such an extreme abnormal result seemed odd, so I went to an oncologist at USC for a second opinion. The oncologist performed another biopsy, and those results confirmed it was only CIN 1. I was told the original interpretation was incorrect and that surgery was not necessary. The original pathology report even mentioned that the analysis was limited due to acute inflammation and thin or crushed specimens. Given that, I was surprised that the recommendation moved so quickly to surgery without more caution or a step-by-step approach. Being told I might have cancer and needed surgery, only to later find out that wasn't the case, was incredibly stressful and avoidable. I would strongly encourage anyone in a similar situation to seek a second opinion before moving forward with an invasive procedure. If you are looking for thorough care, I would not recommend seeing this doctor and going elsewhere. read more

I recently needed some outpatient surgery recommended by Dr Schulz. I had the surgery on her advisement. She told me exactly what would happen during surgery and after. She is under Torrance Memorial so that's where I had my surgery. I felt totally knowledgeable going into surgery. Surgery went just as planned as did my post-op. Nobody wants to have surgery, but Dr Schulz made it as pleasant as possible. As far as office visits, the office is very well run. I have never waited more than 15 minutes to see her. She referred me to a male doctor for a second opinion and when I asked for a female doctor, she said "He won't remember you" Such a careless thing to say to a patient requesting a female doctor. I am traumatized from this unprofessional, rude, and judgmental doctor. I missed some calls after my first appointment because I was out of town. When I answered and they put Dr. Schulz on the line she was YELLING at me about finding precancerous which and scared the hell out of me and had me crying at work. When I went back in she gave me no information about how common it was or anything reassuring whatsoever. No bedside manner at all. She made very inappropriate comments about my relationship with my partner. Even made some of them MID PAP. As if I wasn't uncomfortable and feeling vulnerable already. She had me coming in every 6 months for painful biopsies that new doctor was shocked by because of how unnecessary if was. I used to not mind an annual exam. It's part of life. Dr Schulz has been my gynecologist for over 30 years, and I'm so glad I chose her when my previous doctor moved into a different field. She has always been kind and caring, but above all I feel she has increased my lifespan by doing regular testing. This testing recently resulted in finding some pre-cancerous cells much earlier than they would have been found had I been following the typical protocols for a woman of my age. If I could give 0 stars I would. Terrible doctor with an attitude. My appointment felt rushed, as she tried to rush through answering my questions. Mind you, she had diagnosed me based off lab work that I had gotten done a year ago from a homeopathic doctor. When I asked for blood tests to see my current levels, she told me she would order a basic panel (which wouldn't be enough for a proper diagnosis) but would refer me to an endocrinologist. I was okay with seeing an endo as I know they do more extensive lab work on their patients, but it just concerned me because wouldn't she want to do blood work again to see what my current diagnosis would be? I wish she had spent more time explaining my diagnosis. Hearing that I had this made me shocked and I wanted more answers. Run, don't walk, from this incompetent, hostile, angry, vitriolic woman! Run as far and as fast as you possibly can! Read the negative reviews. They are honest and authentic. I was reliving my horrible experience with this person (I cannot in all good conscience call her a doctor, because doctors are caring and take the Hippocratic oath to do no harm) through their reviews. She will treat you with some respect as long as you fall in line with her wishes and do not question her authority. But ask about your own diagnosis about your own body, as is your right to do, and she will turn on you like a viper, screaming and snarling and spitting venom! My particular case, she stated quite frankly, was simply beyond her abilities. She required the need of a "co-surgeon". Well, after the "doctor" turned into Ms. Hyde, I certainly wasn't about to stay within her practice and, if she couldn't even manage the surgery by herself, what did I need her for in the first place? I found another OB/GYN who was absolutely brilliant and who didn't need any co-surgeon to cover for his ineptitude! I am so glad I got away from this lunatic! I cannot say enough about her she is an amazing OBGYN. She cares about the wellness of her patients and will do whatever it takes to take care of you. Her staff is hard working and are dedicated to the patients that come in everyday. She is the most caring doctor I know! She was there for me emotionally when I was pregnant with my daughter and had placenta previa a very dangerous pregnancy and delivered c section. I've been a patient of Dr. Schulz's for 30 years, and I've had nothing but good experiences with her, her long time partner, and her staff. Dr. Schulz is extremely bright and well educated, quite competent, yet confident enough to refer a patient outside of her office when the patient needs or wants care beyond her area of expertise. I find Barbara Schulz to be very caring and understanding, starting with washing her hands before each and every pelvic exam - an important element in taking care of patients, and one that should not be as rare as it is. Dr. Schulz gives the patient the information necessary to make a decision, and empowers the patient to make her own decisions. Time and time again, I have seen Dr. Schulz lean toward a recommendation that will mean less money in her pocket. She is a straight shooter, and I appreciate that. She's also very nice, but don't expect sugar coating. She is very popular and has a busy, thriving practice, which is well deserved. That might mean you can't get scheduled right away, or that you might wait a long time in an exam room. It might even mean that your appointment gets cancelled. (It happened to me once in thirty years.) Remember that this doctor delivers babies, and babies are not known for sticking to a schedule. She might have delivered life changing news to the patient before you, and their visit might have run over. You cannot schedule a visit here as tightly as you schedule a haircut, but I promise you, your visit to Dr. Schulz is the most important thing that you have to do that day. My review here is long overdue as it's been some time since I've seen Dr. Schulz, but it haunts me to this day. Highly advise anyone on here to READ the negative reviews below and stay away from this horrible practice. Dr. Schulz has zero bedside manner, hardly explains any procedure being done, is very judgmental about sex practices she doesn't agree with, actually SMACKED my leg to "relax" several times and is just a plain rude, awful woman. It may be normal for a doctor to see different types of diseases, procedures, abnormal paps, etc. But to the average patient, it's very scary when something comes back abnormal. To worry someone and only explain the awful things that come from abnormal paps, without explaining how actually often it happens to women, is simply a way to get me to never ever return. Lastly - I logged into my online portal to see that she "advised of diet and vitamin intake" during all of my appointments - literally never happened. I came here a few years ago to go on birth control and wanted to explore more long term options. Because at the time I was overweight (170lbs), she wisely said that going on the shot would not be advisable since there's an overall high chance of gaining more weight. We both decided that the pills were fine, though I did mention I hated taking individual pills every day. There are options for that still. Overall I was fine with this, but the the entire appointment turned into a "Are you going to lose weight?" deal. I wasn't ready to change my lifestyle at the time but I did mention that when I previously had used lower calorie/portion control options, I lost the weight just fine. That was when she gave me the most DISBELIEVING glance ever and told me that I was going to be leaving with nutritional pamphlets anyway. Her eyes couldn't have said, "Yeah, cause that's clearly working out for you" any harder. She then pushed me into scheduling a pap smear and full exam a month later and I wisely just never showed up. I didn't feel comfortable with her and I didn't want her seeing me fully and judging me. From putting me on pills that I didn't want and shaming me on my overall weight, I certainly didn't need that. Fyi, a lower calorie, portion controlled lifestyle has worked great for me in keeping my weight normal at 140 lbs. It was just the fact that I didn't give a crap about my weight then. Dr. Schulz performed a complicated surgery on me, where I had previous years with other doctors who tried with failed attempts to remedy my condition of multiple fibroids, including one degenerating fibroid, endometriosis and more without removing my uterus. Severe blood loss and severe pain left me in a very serious state. I was in desperate need of a doctor who was knowledgeable and able to get to the bottom of my problems. Her tremendous experience was very comforting, and she performed accordingly. 10 months later and I couldn't be more thankful than having been under her care, I no longer have any complications nor pains associated with my previous condition. Dr Schulz I believe is German so the way she speaks is just direct, (this is cultural and not a reflection of her level of caring), real with facts, and with precision, with the same excellence as she is as a surgeon. I have had the amazing opportunity to have Dr. Schulz as my primary gynecologist for many years. She is so professional and experienced and pragmatic. I had to especially sing her praises during the Covid crisis when I was thrilled to be able to see her in April when I had some sensitive health things happening. In one visit she recommended another specialist, diagnosed and identified one of the concerns, wrote a prescription for physical therapy to be ready when they opened, and assured me it would all be ok. I am so glad to say things are improving greatly since I saw her and I have absolute gratitude for her and will never forget all of her actions that took place in one short visit during a worldwide pandemic. Dr. Schulz's bedside manner, to put it lightly, was abysmal. I first went to Dr. Schulz a few months ago seeking out a solution to problems I was having with my implant. When I started to discuss my issues with her, she responded with "you know that's what happens with the implant right?" Her tone was terrible...so honestly, I should've walked out right then and there but hey, lesson learned. She suggests I might have PCOS and wants to run bloodwork. I was very nervous about all of this and I called her to discuss what PCOS meant multiple times; each time she sounded annoyed. Once said bloodwork comes back, I look at my results and deduce that everything looks normal as everything is green on paper (as well as, all my numbers were within range). Still I'm not a doctor, so I wanted to get confirmation that I did not have PCOS. First off, Dr. Schulz did not call me about my results, I had to call her. She calls me back and quickly says, yah you have PCOS, I can set you up with her colleague who is an endocrinologist (very suspicious). She starts to list off these outlandish numbers which are not in my results at all. I think she expected me not to look at my own test results. When I pointed this out, she implied that she has the training to read bloodwork, not me. Very defensive and for what? Long story short, I sought out a second opinion and I most certainly, do not have PCOS. If you're okay with a doctor that is blunt and obviously only wants to get as much money out of you as possible, see Dr. Schulz. But if you want a physician that actually cares, look elsewhere. I was simply looking on line for Dr. Schultz's N Prospect phone number when I came across this web site. I find it surprising that anyone would bring children to a OB-GYN exam. This is a time when you want some quality time with your doctor so that you can ask and understand the questions and answers that you need. Mom's should leave 5 months old babies in someone else's care, babies always cry!! Now - I have been a patient of Dr Schultz for at least 15-18 YEARS. I have been both to the Manhattan Beach office and the Redondo Beach office, BOTH locations have a excellent staff and facilities. Patients have to understand that this office has many many patients coming through their office every day, the staff can't be 100% all the time, haven't you ever had a "bad hair day" come on, lighten up folks. I wouldn't even venture to guess how many patients Dr. Schulz sees during a week, she is not your Auntie who loves you and wants to hold your hand, this is a professional relationship - she is there to give you the facts about your case. I was recently diagnosed with a cyst on my left ovary which will be taken out. I was a little nervous about this procedure so I called the office and spoke to one of the ladies and she put Dr. Schulz on the phone almost immediately. The Dr. was compassionate and was giving my reassurance about my case. I will be having my surgery soon, not scheduled yet, but I wouldn't go to anyone else. I have tried a few. One OBGYN in another practice walked in the room without knocking and there was a hallway with people walking by, what if I was still disrobing. Dr. Schulz's office always always closes the curtain when they leave the room. Like I said I have been going to her offices for many years and every single year I get phone calls or a post card reminding me that my check up is due. This is where Zero or Negative stars are necessary, or maybe Yelp could just add a Thumbs Down rating! Dr. Shultz is a horrible, unprofessional, hostile human being. I cannot comment on her OB and Gynecological knowledge as my experience with her was so terrible I left the office (with horrified people looking on, staff included) before she could examine me. (I was bleeding profusely from what was determined to be fibroids diagnosed at another Drs office). Specific details of why I left office are not important here, but what is important to share with every single woman in the South Bay is that Dr. Shultz is a nasty, abusive woman with the bedside manner of a cornered cat, claws and fangs out. She made my daughter cry, yelling at her staff for giving her a sucker..."Get that sticky thing out of my sight." Not sure if she was referring to my daughter or the sucker, probably both. Her staff looked scared and stunned and did their best to try to soothe child and me. Rarely am I at a loss for words, but I was speechless and disgusted. How dare you treat a patient or any human being like that! Apparently, from reading multiple other reviews, this behavior was not uncharacteristic of Dr. Schulz. STAY AWAY from the entire practice! The doctor turn-over is huge at this practice and I wonder why? Even if you did find an OB that you like in this office, you might have to see Dr. Schulz at some point, or worst of all, she could be the doctor on-call to deliver your baby! The negative reviews about Dr. Schulz are perplexing. I have been a patient of hers for many years and have never had a bad experience. I had an ovarian cancer scare, and she led me through a lengthy diagnostic process with compassion and intelligence. She has advised me on the various approaches for treating my hot flashes, always taking the time to fully explain the pluses and minuses of each method. I recently developed some abnormal tissue in my uterus, and she and her staff couldn't have been more responsive and supportive of my concerns. She performed a D&C, and every phase of the procedure went like clockwork, from making the arrangements with my insurer to attentive post-op care. Before the procedure, I called her office to express some concerns about the anesthesiology, and Dr. Schulz immediately got on the line to reassure me that she understood the situation and would coordinate closely with the anesthesiologist. The evening after the procedure, Dr. Schulz telephoned me to see how I was feeling, and the minute she got the pathology report she telephoned to let me know that it was good news. I appreciate Dr. Schulz's direct and honest demeanor. She doesn't put on a phony bedside manor that I have seen some other doctors do. Maybe this is what annoys some patients, but I prefer the genuine approach and don't need the disingenuous coddling. She has a subtle, wry sense of humor that has always lifted my spirits during and after an office visit. I would definitely recommend her to my best friends. read more

I found Dr. Schultz through a trusted friend when we'd moved to MB from the Midwest. I already knew I had fibroids and was dealing with the crazy menstrual cycles of girls my age. Dr. Schultz stepped in and took over my case with professionalism, care and seriousness. She did tests, found worrisome levels of cancer readings and took quick action. She's brilliant and personal. She never "left my side" even though she had to turn me over to an oncologist. And she assisted/partnered with the oncologist for my hysterectomy. Through months of recovery, she gave me every bit of reassurance, attention and concern. She is absolutely amazing and her staff in both offices are personable, hard working, pros. I think (looking at these negative reviews) it requires a more mature clientele because she's intelligent and purposeful in her approach. She's serious about her work. (And there isn't a "money hungry" bone in the whole practice.) Here's a doozie: Over time I've had to call the office with concerns, and after I explain my worry, Dr. Schultz herself would pick up the phone to talk with me. Dr. Schulz have been my doctor for over 27 years and delivered my daughter. So with that being said, when it was time for my daughter to get her yearly exam I wouldn't trust anybody else but her. She spent a lot of time answering all the questions that my daughter might have and formed an instant trust from my daughter. Unfortunately her results came back with abnormal cells. So I took my daughter in and a biopsy was done. Having had cancer, my mind goes to the worst place for my daughter. Dr. Schulz is so calm and with that comes a reassurance that everything is going to be fine. By the way, the biopsy came back good. I've never ever felt rushed when I've had my visits. She sits and listens attentively to you and answers all questions you might have without making you feel silly. She's a great doctor and I highly recommend her. read more

** Update of my review ** Saw the oncologist today, and let's just say without getting into medical detail, the "outpatient procedure" Dr. Schultz was ready to perform in her office without a pain management plan or any warning of what was going to happen, is a procedure said male oncologist would never recommend any woman do unless under anesthesia. I'm so glad I listened to my gut instinct and declined and opted for a second opinion and better options and I'm so very disappointed a woman doctor would even consider putting another woman through this much, during an already questionable and scary time in their life. As mentioned before, I waited three weeks for what I thought was going to be an appropriate office procedure. I could have already been through this and had answers and a plan if one was needed. Instead, I am now having to wait an additional two weeks for my procedure and probably another week for results. I will be filing a formal complaint with the medical board against Dr. Schultz for not properly informing me of her intentions and withholding information that affected my ability to make the right choice for myself and situation in the moment. She exhibited poor decision making regarding my health and mental wellbeing. ---------------------------------------------------- If you care about bedside manner, go elsewhere. I don't know why I've continued to come to this doctor, especially after todays experience. Was scheduled for an outpatient procedure, which was not fully explained to me at the onset. It goes without saying that any woman in their right mind would never have this type of procedure done without some form of anesthesia. I declined the service and was provided a referral and appointment with an oncologist for a second opinion and better options. Go to pick my paperwork up and they have the nerve to charge me an office visit. I ask for what? I didn't have anything done. The woman at the desk has the nerve to look over her now lowered glasses and state, "the doctor spent a lot of time with you today." Excuse me? She was in the room for less than five minutes and did absolutely nothing to or for me. She scheduled me for a procedure that I thought I knew something about given my past experience, but really was not told of the extent of the procedure which I'm not having without anesthesia. Not to mention, I sat in your waiting room thirty minutes past my scheduled time and my time is precious too. I actually left work early and drove from Orange County for nothing but a freaking phone number to an oncologist. And I waited three weeks for this garbage. Never again. No way. Absolutely terrible. Put on hold by reception for over 10 minutes, promised a call back and never got one. I received a charge from here for a test I wasn't told I would be paying for. My prescription was expired so I called to make a new appointment and was told no new appointments this week. These people do not want your business let alone treat their patients with respect. After researching several of my local OBGYNs I chose Dr. Schulz for a consultation. I met with her about a week ago and can only say positive things about her. She really listened to my concerns instead of dismissing them like other doctors have. I appreciated the way she thoroughly took time to explain things to me and answered all of questions. Was referred to Dr. Schulz when my yearly physical indicated a possible issue. Further testing revealed a fairly serious problem, and my experience with Dr. Schulz was excellent, as was her caring staff. Dr. Schulz was recommended to me and I used her for serious surgery over 6 years ago. I've never said this about a Dr., but She yells and screams at her patients to the point where you're afraid to call her for advise. She helped me very little with pain issues and told me that all I wanted was pain pills and call someone else. If I left a message for her at the desk, she'd say she never got it. It was obvious that I was not healing correctly no matter what she told me to do in her worst voice. She had no problem yelling in front of her staff and other patients. I never thought a dr. could bring me to tears, but she knew I was not strong enough to think clearly and she made that worse. No, I wouldn't recommend her to anyone. read more
