Hotel Donna Laura Palace in Rome promised a touch of luxury and elegance, perfect for a special birthday celebration. With the allure of a sauna and Jacuzzi, and the word "palace" in the name, I expected a top-tier experience. However, the reality was more subdued.
I was disappointed to discover a €40 charge to use the sauna and Jacuzzi. Given the price of my stay, I had assumed these amenities would be included. The room service was prohibitively expensive, leading me to forego it entirely.
The staff's attitude was ambivalent. They weren't particularly friendly, nor were they rude, creating an atmosphere of indifference. This hotel seems to cater more to older clientele and business travelers.
While I appreciated having a balcony, the hotel's location on a busy main road made it quite noisy. The balcony door did a good job of muffling the sound when closed, but mornings were disrupted by the noise of cleaners.
The room itself was extremely small, just enough space for a bed and minimal walking room. The bathroom was similarly cramped. Additionally, the bedroom door had issues with the lock sticking, making it less than user-friendly.
I chose not to order breakfast but took a look at the offerings. They appeared uninspiring, especially after experiencing exceptional breakfasts in Morocco and Portugal.
Overall, my stay was fine but not memorable. Considering the cost, it wasn't worth the premium price. I ended up paying about $1500 more than I would have for a comparable Airbnb. This hotel didn't quite meet the expectations set by its name and amenities. read more
