If you are looking for tofu to fry this store is the place to go. Vegetarians welcome! Staff is really nice. Small Family owned store with tofu specialties. I usually come for the sesame balls which is always sold out and today I got lucky as they still had some left. Always fresh and crunchy. Drinks are great if you want to cool off your system from eating all theta fried food. Herbal tea is famous in Asia for cooling due to hot weather.

Dong Phuong Tofu is of course known for their tofu, but my dad actually wanted to come here to get their Rau Ma. Rau Ma is a pennywort juice that is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. When we arrived, my mom asked the lady which one is unsweetened... I'm thinking ughh look at the label. Okay okay... things aren't labeled here. Sigh. The Rau Ma ($7.50/bottle), clearly green, is put in the same bottle and has the same label as their soy milk. What the heck. And the sweetened and unsweetened are not labelled. The WHITE cap is the unsweetened and the green cap is the sweetened. How hard is it to put a sign up? While we were already there I also picked up a Dau Hu Duong Gung, which is a tofu pudding with candied ginger syrup. Their tofu pudding is fresh and warm. The consistency is silky and it's in large pieces, not broken up. Really quality. Definitely living up to the "tofu" establishment reputation. I really enjoyed the tofu pudding. Labels or not, I know we'll be coming back for my dad's Rau Ma. Until next time.

This is a small little shop where you can order cooked tofu they also have tofu that's not cooked. This store is where you could buy other Vietnamese ingredients. So, they have a variety of cooked goods here they have mushroom, tofu, spicy tofu. They also have like puffy tofu that I usually put in soup! The mushroom tofu has the best flavor, it taste pretty savory, and the tofu was firm, but it's still soft. The spicy tofu is not really my favorite. The flavor profile is just boring to me and I don't really like it but it's still good to try. The service is great. It's simple. It's never super packed or busy in here. The parking is also a little interesting. You can park in the complex that's nearby or you can also park right in front of the store, but sometimes it could be too full.

I really love the food here. But I worry a little bit about hygiene, especially as Asians who cross-contaminate at times. The women here work fast and they're very friendly and helpful. They all wear gloves, which is a plus however they handle food and serve food with the same gloves. Thankfully, the saving grace is that they use tongs to serve the tofu when you're ordering. Hoping this is always the case. It's next door to little Saigon phuc La thoa (I know I butchered it) but there's a steady stream of people coming in and out

Walking into Dong Phuong Tofu instantly brings back memories of old-school spots like V K Food Products still going strong. I can never get enough of their pandan tofu pudding too, so soft, lightly sweet, with the coconut milk sago for flavor. I love that comforting smell of fresh soy in the air from the back! The counter with tofu treats waiting to be taken home, and we also always pick up a few cups of the airy tofu cube balls. They're super light, great for vegetarians, and perfect tossed into a bowl of bún or eaten as-is. And don't even get me started on the tofu milk. This is the kind of place you stop by once and then find yourself coming back to again and again.

This is our go-to place to get fresh soymilk (blue caps mean sweetened, white caps mean unsweetened) and food at great, reasonable prices. We usually get the sweetened. Parking available in the few spaces in front. I highly recommend this place!

Sugar and no sugar soy milk (Dec 2024)

*** Cash only *** Think Dong Phuong Tofu as the Orange County version of V K Food Products in the SGV (San Gabriel Valley) - both shops specialize in two items: tofu and soy milk. This tofu wholesaler makes soy milk fresh on a daily basis and the shop is located right next to the Asian Garden Mall aka the largest Vietnamese-owned mall in America. [Parking]: There are few 10-minute max parking spots designated for the tofu shop. Trust me - your visit here will not take more than 5 minutes. [Specialities]: Unlike some unsweetened soy milk you'll find at 99 Ranch which tastes unpleasant because it is just plain soybean and water, the unsweetened soy milk (labeled 'special no sugar') sold at Dong Phuong Tofu contains one key ingredient - extract of pandan leaf. There is something about adding pandan that makes the unsweetened soy milk taste a lot better. Customers can grab pre-packaged bottles from the refrigerators or opt for piping hot soy milk at the counter. Please note the exterior of the piping hot soy milk bottles may have some powder residue, so it is best to place them in a bag and wash it off when you get home. Reasonable price - $3.75 for a 64 oz bottle of no-sugar soy milk at the counter and $2.50 for the same bottle in the refrigerated section. [Conclusion]: Fresh, no preservative, and hot soy milk? Count me in! P.S. - They also sell other fried items like egg rolls, sesame balls, etc.

Went to Thanh Son tofu and it was extremely packed so decided to go to Dong Phuong instead. Not much options here except for tofu. There was no customers at all and I was the only one. Bought 4 pieces of tofu for $5. That's $1.25 each, for tofu.

Fried tofu variety- all yummy except that net egg roll at the bottom (tasted fishy)

Wow! We were driving around the area just looking for interesting places to try and stopped in after seeing it from the street. It's a tofu factory! We didn't know what to try so we were standing around looking to see what the elders were all getting to copy their orders - they all ordered the plain and mushroom tofu. While waiting in line the girl behind me heard me saying that I didn't know what some of the items were in the hot case and she said said it's all good and helped me identify everything. So I just ordered almost everything to try it all. Thanks again girl lol. We got the plain tofu, mushroom tofu, lemongrass chili tofu, fries net rolls, fried egg roll, fried tofu puffs, sweetened soy milk, and soft tofu with ginger. We were blown away - so yummy!! The texture of the fried tofu were so good, firm yet soft, and the flavor of the tofu was extremely clean and did not have a weird chemical taste that tofu sometimes has. The mushroom one has wood ear mushrooms and added a nice crunch, and the lemongrass chili one was not spicy - both both were really good. The little greasy looking egg roll was so good too and was not greasy at all even though it looked like it, it was a nice crunchy bite with good flavor. The tofu puffs were so good - airy and light with a nice crisp. The net egg roll was not for me, it had a weird fishy taste. The sweetened soy milk was perfectly sweet and very enjoyable - sometimes when you get soy milk from the markets, it tastes good but has a weird smell and theirs was all around perfect with no smell. The soft tofu ginger was also very very good. I enjoyed it very much and will definitely be back! Service was so friendly, patient, and efficient. Cash only, parking is limited but people are always in and out. Ambiance is very basic but clean, unlike some of the other places we walked into in the area.

Fried Tofu - Container full for $4
    Lisa E.

This place is interesting. We came just to try the fried snacks. We had no idea what any of them were except for the sesame balls and fried bananas. We tried the little fried tofus and a container full is $4. It's not flavored and taste like airy fried tofu. We also tried little rectangle tofus which seems like the popular one. Everyone in front of us got them and they are 4 for $1. They also had no flavor but they are juicy. The sesame balls are SO crispy and filled with mung beans I think. I would come here just for those. They are 3 for $1. The fried banana was okay maybe cause they were cold. They're pretty decent sized. I'm guessing these are $2 a piece. Lastly we tried two decent sized square looking tofus and one was chili and the other was woodear mushrooms and vermicelli noodles flavored. We loved them both. Not sure how much they are but maybe $1.75 each? If we come back, we'll get the square tofus (chili and mushroom/noodle flavored) and sesame balls. The kids loved the fried bananas, sesame balls, and the chili square tofus the most. P.S. The other older there was super nice and friendly.

Great place for fresh tofu and soy milk. I really like their hot soy milk, it is creamy and fresh Good and quick service FYI, cash only

I was in this store here this morning for the first time. They have amazing egg rolls! Super crispy. They get 1 star for incredibly rude service. I told her I want to buy all the egg rolls, which is about 15 left. The short vietnamese lady told me no, that others have placed a big order, not enough to sell me. I was like huh?? They are right here in front of me, if they were made for special order, shouldn't it be on the side?? She ignored me and helped 2 people after me. I refuse to leave and kept staring at her, she gave up and sold me the egg rolls. I was like that's crazy rude. I know asian places have great food, bad service, but she really reach the top. Unbelievable. But these egg rolls were worth fighting for!!!

Seems to me, it is less crowded than other markets. (If I can avoid crowds, I will). It was Tet New Year season and I needed to get a few ingredients for some dishes I planned to cook. My first priority was the fresh oxtail in the meat department. I have gone to many markets for this cut and it seems this is the best place for a ~2 pound tray of mixed size tails. The fat is all trimmed off, as opposed to other markets that leave a fat layer behind that you are paying for. It also depends on if you prefer leaner tails. Next, the produce section. I picked up some cailan (Chinese broccoli). For the most part, the Asian veggies are pretty fresh - since there is a higher turnover rate of Asian veggies in this area. It was good on this day. So many varieties of green veggies, I love it! The fruit section is also pretty impressive. Papayas, guanabana, dragon fruit, pommelo, tangerines, korean pear, manzano bananas,...Not your ordinary apples and oranges. Dry goods include a plethora of rice, including Thai sweet rice, Japanese rice (perfect for sushi rice), red rice (known for high fiber and low glycemic index)... Who likes Chinese Style sausage? Me! It is called Lap Xuong, in Vietnamese. I love making Thai sweet rice and serve with thinly sliced Lap Xuong - my mom fed us kids this often! And yes, they have a good supply of this here, so stock up, it will last forever in the pantry. Vietnam is the world's second largest coffee producer. You will see the crazy amount of coffee products sold here, for example, Vinacafe. Most are packed as individual serving packets which includes cream and sugar. Too convenient for consumption! Also perfect to have in your pantry. You shall be impressed with the chili aisle. Sambal of all kinds. You can make an awesome pot of chili with this heat! Lots of Lunar New Year items too. I am sure there are still some left for purchase if you didn't have a chance to pick some up yet. They do have a liquor department too. Asians can drink iykyk. If you do, please don't drink and drive. Parking is ok, if you go shopping off peak hours. Market is on Beach Boulevard and it could get pretty busy so plan wisely. So enjoy your visit. It is always fun to discover a new product and try something you have never eaten before!
