Pizza We've all had it…read more... The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly...(Like 5 day old fuzzy pizza ugly) Those days are over! Neon Pizza has literally solved all my pizza problems! How? What about offering hot fancy pizza pop ups, and amazing gourmet pizza for your freezer. Yeah, now it's available. Imagine if a Chicago deep dish pizza and a California artisanal pizza got married and had a magical little dough boy. Let's call him California Pan. California Pan is now my favorite type of pizza. Hands. Down. I haven't had a California Pan Pizza before, and now I don't want anything else. The consistency of the crust, the combination of the toppings, and the convenient serving size only adds up to one thing. Me buying larger pants (in a joyful manner). The beauty of a square pizza is every slice is a corner slice. I really dislike fighting over the corner slice...and now I don't have to. The crust is thick, but not too thick. It holds up to the toppings, but doesn't take away. It plays both the supporting role and starring role...depending on where you take your bite. If you bite from the middle of the slice = supporting role. Bite from the edge = starring role. Versatile, like Daniel-Day Lewis. At the pop up, I was able to try a hot slice of the sausage and pepper pizza. Even though I wouldn't normally order this, they said it was their most popular. They were right. All the ingredients worked together to form a mouthful of hearty satisfaction. I couldn't stop eating it. I also was able to enjoy a piping hot slice of their 'Hawaiian' pizza. Now I don't normally eat pineapple on my pizza, but when it's mixed with other toppings like Kim chee and spam, it's a knockout winner! Imagine the salt from the spam, with the acid and sugar from the pineapple, with a hit of spice at the end from the Kim chee.... So. Mind. Blown. I also tried the Pepperhomie Let's be honest, pepperoni pizza is the control. How good your pepperoni pizza is, tells me pretty much everything I need to know. And this pepperoni pizza rocks! What's better than pepperoni pizza...not much. Unless you add crumbled pepperoni to your pepperoni slice. This made the slice extra crunchy because of the crispy, salty bits of goodness! Eating the mushroom Tortellini slice was a delightful present. Each bite is different, and in each bite there's something new. Ooh rich mushroom! Wow..yummy ricotta. Yum, tortellini! Veggie pizza is not always my thing, but this was very satisfying. I will be back for more pizza!!! For my mouth and for my freezer!!! Pro tip: If they have Honey Habanero sauce, use it to dip your leftover pizza crust in it....your welcome.

I read a review that stated this pizza place was now their fave pizza and I must admit, I'm on that bandwagon as well. Let me just tell you that for me, the sauce is what makes this pizza. I have never tasted a pizza sauce where you can taste fresh tomatoes. Al pizza sauce tastes the same, but this one is noteworthy. The pizzas are also made from sourdough, so for us sourdough lovers, this is a yummy treat. As you saw above, I did a split pizza. I love pepperoni pizza with pickled jalapeños and the hot honey just took this combo to the next level. For all of you basic bitches out there that think honey on pizza is gross, try it - you will forever be adding that to your pizza. Btw, this combo is not going to set your tastebuds on fire so don't fret. I got my pizza at the El Sereno Night Market. There's plenty of parking. My tip is to park at the post office. The vendor will accept ApplePay. Don't sit on this vendor and get yourself a pie at their next pop up (find them on Insta).

During my Smorgasburg visit, they had five kinds of pizza: al pastor, spiceroni, pepperoni, tri-colore, and margherita. Slices start at $5 and a 14" pie starts at $28. Al pastor pizza ($7): BBQ smoked al pastor sausage, mozzarella, pineapple, onion, cilantro, & salsa verde on a blue corn sourdough crust. The toppings were fantastic - so flavorful, moist al pastor sausage slices, an excellent tangy, spicy salsa. I wasn't as crazy about the crust. It was thin and chewy, with little rise (no puffy edges) or crisp edges. Parts of the crust tasted burnt. The slice was also small and thin. I couldn't tell that it was a sourdough or corn crust. They had a large brick pizza oven to make pies on the spot and smaller ovens to heat slices. Or are they making pizza by the slice? I'm not sure. I didn't have to wait too long for my slice.
