Friday 8/2/2013 was my first time taking a class here, it wore me out. Tuesdae was the instructor, she's young and energetic and when you look at her amazing legs you'll stay motivated. I attended again today 8/5/13 and trained with the main himself "DB" and boy did he whoop my behind, I had to stepped out 3x or more, (don't judge me, LOL) he pushed me enough to continue going and when he saw me struggling he gave me alternative workouts to do and a quick pep talk. I'm a FAN, I will be attending their classes 4-5x a week. I need to be whip into shape by my birthday 11/22 and I know going to Don-A-Matrix training I'm sure to see/get results. If you haven't been PLEASE GO, YOUR BODY WILL APPRECIATE YOU! Oh and they are running a 30day Free Days of Summer special. This is the best place so far, I left Spectrum to come here. When people ask me, "what's the Matrix workout" my response is usually "it's just as intense as insanity BUT you also use resistant bands! It's INSANE! I completed the 90 day challenge (wooohooo! yay for me!) and let me tell you it was well worth it! "DB" listens and is always motivating and correcting form. He likes to take the time to come over and personalize parts of the workout that you might have challenges with. Don Brooks, the owner / founder is egocentric and doesn't give a "bleep" about his customer's. He only cares about the money. I understand it's about maximizing profit but have some decency and get a training in customer service! I had bought a package of 10 training sessions. I redeemed my first 5 weeks before the expiration date. Then I had an injury which I had proof of. The fine print on the package said that as long as you redeem the first before the expiration date, the rest never expires. Then, he refused to honor my second class after I drove an hour to his studio at 7am. He said, I couldn't use the other 9 sessions left because they expired. He didn't stress this when I redeemed my first. No compassion, he didn't offer me a compromise, just said I should leave if I am not willing to pay for a new package His loss. I actually just have moved to Melrose, and I'd be willing to pay hundreds of $$$ now for weekly training. Disgraceful!!!!!!! He thinks because of he trained a few celebs he is superior. I know many trainers in LA who actually don't even share that they train some of the A-listers out of privacy or due to NDA's. They let the workout and training experience represent their excellence. Got a great deal on the Don-A-Matrix workouts from Groupon and was excited about the opportunity to get my body energized and toned in the new year. After the holidays and some serious slacking off, it was time to give my body some shock treatment. Don-A-Matrix did JUST that! First of all it's taken away all of my excuses: 1. I don't want to work out too far away: It's 10 mins away from my apt and centrally located. 2. I don't want working out to take up too much of my time: It's 50 mins. of pure interval, strength and cardio training. I got in and out and had a great workout. 3. I don't want to stress over parking: There's parking meters on the street on Melrose, perfect for a 50 mins workout and also on the side streets free for 2 hours. 4. I don't want to feel like I'm working out: Just as I thought I would pass out from some of the exercises, some amazing song would come on and I would want to dance which gave me the energy to finish my workout. After just one workout my body feels more energized, my metabolism has turned up and I feel the fat burning and my muscles building. As Schwarzenegger said in Terminator, "I'll Be Back." I just took a class with Don at the gym and it was the best! Seriously a great workout!! Don gave me pointers through the whole class and was so motivating and welcoming! I would love to take his classes regularly -- we'll see how many I can justify buying on top of my current gym membership, but I will absolutely be back! Full disclosure: I am a Kardashian fan and have been watching Don on their snapchats. I figured he must be in LA somewhere and was so pumped to find out I could train with him too! This is not about the Don A Matrix workout itself. The workout is a good workout!!! You will sweat and burn some fat for sure. Im giving it 2 1/2- 3 stars because of how they handle there business. I among many ,purchased a groupon for 10 classes. Most fitness studios that put out groupons honor the full voucher once its redeemed, until you use up all classes offered on the groupon. Not here! They sent out an email to clients regarding a new 30 day trial offer and everyone that had a groupon was eligible. Once you signed up for it is when you Forfiet the rest of your groupon even if you had classes left. Well I hadn't signed up just yet but had planned to. In the meantime I figured since I was just back in town and had a class or two left go use it. Heres why the 3 stars. I show up to a class that wasnt sold out and these youngsters tell me your groupon expired. Im recalling on the voucher saying once its redeemed it NEVER expires and explaining that to them.Then they have me speak to this rude ass chick name Teri who says I cant take class. Huh? Im trying to explain myself to her and she hangs up in my face!!! Wtf?? Because there was confusion , a good client service person wouldve just went ahead and honored the client in attendance and let me take class. But the owner admitted to instructing them not to. Not good!!! Owner allowed me to take the last 20 mins of the class which was BS. I wasnt warmed up or stretched!!!! I shouldve been offered tshirt or allowed 1st standby or something for the next class because of the confusion on there part. Needless to say this left a sour taste in my mouth. I trained with the Don A Matrix team five days in a row. I knew it would be a challenge because I'm naturally fit looking but I don't work out -- looking fit and being is not the same thing. I felt amazing during and after. Each day of my training week, I woke up completely psyched for the next session. Experimenting with different workout times, early morning, late afternoon and midday was wonderful; by selecting different times to train throughout the week, I had the opportunity to work out with Nate, Reggie and Don. Each team member has a unique personality -- BTW, each of these men is lovely -- but the technique is absolutely consistent. By my third day, I was contemplating doubling up on sessions -- I'm so greedy when something is good! In one of my sessions with Reggie, Don worked out alongside me. He was like that one guy who insists on more reps and extra time when you're in the last segment of intense core ab work -- I was like, "Who invited this guy?" but those extra reps and extra time pushed me just a bit further, which I was glad for, and he has such a great attitude that even as I lay gasping at the ceiling, I was having fun. I did look really good before training with the team, that being said, the results that I got with the Don A Matrix workout were notable. It's like beautiful hair vs. Hollywood movie star hair. Bought 10 classes via Groupon because my friend highly recommended to try this intense workout! Despite of a schedule that does not favor my trips to Hollywood (spending an hour in traffic) I still commit to DONAMATRIX at least once a week because I am fond of this GREAT WORKOUT! I love the intensity and the challenge this place has to offer! However, I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I am not happy with their "sign up for class" policy when it comes to Groupon customers and here is why: Apparently, only permanent members are allowed to sign up in advance whereas Groupon customers are treated as add-ons and wait -listed allowed only to workout when VIP member doesn't show! not FAIR! I was wait-listed a few times already and was told that I may not be able to get in ... I come from the Valley and I don't want to come for nothing because Groupon customers are not considered VIP and can't sign up in advance! I find this rule ridiculous and discriminating against Groupon customers! read more

It's basically a cardio workout with a resistance band. A lot of current hip hop music (trap) . Since I have a knee injury jumping lunges and constant jumping is not an option for me. I felt I wasn't able to be as focused on functional movement and mobility. The instructor is high energy which is nice but there wasn't true emphasis on strength or corrective movement. My roommate and I are Groupon Fitness Hoppers. After taking this class I feel that I've earned every calorie I burned and according to the monitor I was wearing it was 700! That's crazy and amazing! I'm definitely wanting to get the monthly deal (if my friends join with me). If you don't have the monthly make sure you get there EARLY, the class fills up crazy fast and sometimes you wont get in. I've had 2 different teachers who had different styles making the levels of intensity the same, but different. I highly recommend doing this class with a friend. My first class was AHHHHHHH--MAZING! Don really pushes you and the people who go always have a great time. I have a set workout routine and these classes have been a great change to that. They have a live DJ, Don Juan, who plays the right jams. What better way to get results from a great trainer with some live music? I was completely impressed, that not only did I come home sore I kept coming back for more! I tried Donamatrix with Don himself after seeing the studio's Instagram story, everyone looked like they were dying and I love that in a workout! The class is broken into 4 quarters and each quarter has 2 exercises with 3 sets, using resistance bands. You partner up on several of the exercises and switch off , e.g. one person hold a wall squat with the band while the other is doing jumping/one arm rows. The class has a lot of jumping and quick changes, it might be difficult if you have knee issues and it's definitely cardio heavy. It's one of those workouts that you need to go to several classes to get the moves down but everyone is welcoming and you can tell there's a lot of regulars. I burned a similar amount of calories as I do in HIIT classes. read more

I've been coming to Don-A-Matrix training for almost two months. I purchased the groupon and became a VIP member once my first month was over! Don-A-Matrix is FOR EVERYONE. You don't have to be fit to do this. You WILL get pushed, but that's really to your benefit! I've taken all of the trainers here and they're all great! They pay attention and make sure everyone is getting the most out of their workout, even in a full class. The most popular class is the 8pm so get there at least 30 minutes early, or become a VIP like me and sign up online! I haven't even talked about how FUN the class is! Imagine sweating to all the latest club songs by 2chains, Rhianna, Lil Wayne, ect! Just when you feel like giving up, "your song" comes on and you push yourself harder! I've never been motivated in this way. Sometimes we even get to work out with DJ Don Juan spinning live! SO MUCH FUN! Where else can you work out with a live DJ spinnin' ?? (only in LA!) This is a really fun and comfortable place to work out. All of the staff and other members are super nice! There's no drama! Everyone just wants to have a great workout! In my 10+ years of workout, this has been the most challenging, fruitful, and FUN workout I've every done. I'm so happy I found out about it through Groupon. Don't workouts are made up of exercises that you couldn't pay me a million dollars to do on my own, but these are the things that help priceless to shape your shit. Band work, jump squats, lunges, squats with press, plank with scissor jacks, I mean the shit that he as us doing, is crazy! But the whole time you're sweating you've got this incredible soundtrack, this bass pumping through your veins. You can't help but get into it! I don't get to go out very much, so having my dancing/club fix is very important! Don is really dedicated and passionate about helping us, you can feel his positive energy and desire to take it to the next level. He's also a sweet and down to earth guy, so you never feel intimidated or self conscious or anything. That's how I felt anyway, when I came up and there were all these people outside and the music was blasting. I was scared and nervous! But then Don and Raf are so awesome, they were super welcoming. Another Groupon success! I was super sad to leave San Diego, mostly to leave behind my amazing friends & an awesome city - but also to leave behind the fantastic workout studios that I've discovered over the years. A week before I moved to LA, I started scouring Groupon for fitness deals. I stumbled upon Don-A-Matrix..and to be honest, my first impression from looking at the website (and the business name) - I didn't think it would be for me, but for $15 it was worth a shot! However, I couldn't be more wrong. First of all - its a mile from my house - takes me 5 minutes to get there. In LA - this is HUGE. Second of all, there is tons of free street parking around there - another HUGE point in LA. I am ADDICTED to this workout. Don is motivating, awesome, and always changes up the workout. I've taken classes with all the instructors and love them all. Joy and Don would have to be my favorites b/c they are the most motivating and teach completely different classes. I've been taking this 4-6 days a week for a month and I'm STILL sore. I hesitated to write a review at first b/c I don't want the studio to get so full that I can't get into the class times that I want! But it's too good not to share. I just started working out at Fit Factory this week (also with Groupon) and the workouts are intense! Best deal on Groupon EVER. As another reviewer said, the class is split into 4 fast intervals, totaling to 50 minutes (unless your trainer takes you into overtime :D). I am a runner and have run 4 LA marathons, so I have experience with testing my endurance. But the don-a-matrix workouts are challenging every minute of the workout. I'm in love. People at all different levels attend--from those that look like track stars to beginners starting their first exercise plan. The music is awesome and definitely helps keep the the energy strong. I live in East LA, but traveling to Melrose Ave is so worth it. read more

I don't even have words for how AMAZING this workout is. Don is the best there is. Each time is different and he has a great ability to make the class challenging for everyone regardless of your fitness level. I have tried many different workouts and classes that left me tired after, but did not actually give me a good workout. Other fitness classes will have you do a set, but there is nothing behind their rationale other than it's time to do arms. Don is everything. You'll hate and love him at the same time in a way you've never thought you were able to before, and that feeling is addictive. It's extreme, and he has very strict and particular rules (no sitting, stopping, NO AIR JUMPROPE - that one is especially hard for me as I was continuously whipped by the jump rope), and that's what makes him work. You're gonna have trouble breathing, you might end up hyperventilating, dry heaving, even throwing up, and you're definitely going to be sore as hell, but that just means it's working. Best workout since I stopped kick boxing back in 2006. I signed up for the 90 day challenge and automatic monthly payment. After trying a number of different options with workouts which were unable to keep me consistent, I can honestly say I found my fitness home. The 8 pm class is awesome but then again all the classes are worth trying. Just when you want to give up a song will come on to remind you what you're there for. Training is super hardcore here! I usually dread going, because I know it's going to be tough. But afterwards, I feel great. You will definitely sweat when you come here! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.... astonished & disappointed! bought 3 livingsocial workouts.... redeemed 2 of them early & now that I was a couple of days late 4 the last 1 cause of a family emergency I was REJECTED.... the class was almost EMPTY & Don DB Brooks himself said I only could workout if I buy a VIP Plan...... so hypocritical & corrupt ....they LOST A CUSTOMER/ FOLLOWER .... I can't believe I was fooled by the phony PR :( Don DB Brooks kept passing me ignorantly after I refused to commit myself to a 49$/ a month plan... as I waited outside in my workout gear ...in the cold... cause I was to be picked up after the workout I had been so excited about in the best. So....though the 2 workouts I had were great.... I am simply distressed. MR. Don-A-Matrix is AMAZING! ALL of the trainers and DB himself are great trainers, keep you pumped up and leave you waiting for the next class...although you're entire body is sore. Your heart-rate sky rockets for the COMPLETE 45-55 minutes they work you, so be ready and stay ready. Be sure to arrive 10 minutes before class because they don't accept anymore than 20 people. Don Brooks used to run a Don a Matrix training center in Chula Vista, CA before moving to Los Angeles. He would sometimes be gone for a week or two at a time and left his trainers in charge. Then one day the trainers showed up and said they were never paid. Don never showed up again. He rented the space, so there was an eviction notice on the building. Then the electric got shut off. Worse of all, he was very persuasive and convinced members to pay a year in advance. So all of us members lost a ton of money. When we tried to contact him he changed his phone and was nowhere to be found. Glad to see he used our money to build a new business in Los Angeles! This guy is a scam. If you go, pay a class at a time and ask him about his gym in Chula Vista. read more

My deal with the don a matrix: LOVED the workout BUT Very disappointed with their costumer service way of dealing with issues. Ive been going to dmt studio for almost 3 months now. Last week their prices changed fron $45 to $99. My bank thought that there was some fraudulent activity in my account and cancelled my debit card with out notifying me witch then cancelled my automatic dmt payment through paypal. Immediately i called Teri (shes suppose to take care of the costumer service aspect of the business) explained to her what happened and she told me "sorry, from now on you have to pay $99 versus $45 because that's the new price on new accounts. DEAR Terri, my account is not new, if you look at your records i've been going to dmt for 3 months. I tried emailing this Terri lady again and talking to Don about the issue. I never got a response back. So because of the lack of respect for your clients, you will not lose one but you will lose two clients (my sister and I wont be coming anymore). We will take our business elsewhere, hopefully to a place where people will at least pretend like they care about their clients. read more
