Spending the night in surrey and wanted to buy a little snack to bring back home just in case have one of those midnight cravings and not interested in any instant noodles or leftover pizza in the fridge. Cruised around and went thru Wendy's drive thru but their system was down so forget that. Spotted this place on 96th ave that was still opened. I love my donairs and pretty picky about them and has never try this place before so it's a late night gamble.
Parked and walked in, seemed pretty clean and new inside. The menu is behind the cashier with its daily specials. This is what I ordered;
1. the daily spot for $17.99 (a donair of your choice, small bottle of pop, a small fries). I got the beef and lamb donair (donair sauce, hot sauce, lettuce, cucumber, diced tomato, olives, jalapeños, pineapples) and upgraded my fries to a poutine for an additional $4+. Decided to chomp it down when got back home. No exaggeration, these were the saltiest and driest donair meat I have ever eaten. I can eat salty food but these were SALTYYY!!! Sorry to say but an epic donair failed!
Overall, the staffs were very friendly, the place was clean, and open till 2am so it's good for those late nighters, but the meat were way too salty and dry for my likings. Over the years I had tried many donair and shawarma places all over. I would say my favourite donair place was the one in New West on 12th and 7th back in my uni days but unfortunately as it changed ownership many times over the years, it's never the same anymore. Hopefully someone will start a decent and proper donair place in the lower mainland none of these kiddies donair places. A good donair have to be made to order meaning, the meats are shaved into the pita when the customer order not been sitting in a warmer for the last hour or so. Anyways, I would recommend Shawarma Corner on Columbia street in New West, ever since the new owner took it over, they got one of the juiciest meat. read more
