Got this as takeout and it was decent! The portions are big but it was definitely a bit on the pricier side. I got the gnocchi with marinara, vegetables and chicken and it was lacking flavor but the pasta was cooked well. I do recommend the pesto orecchiette and the salted caramel brownie - really good!! I am visiting Tampa from Miami. I searched Italian restaurants for my dinner. I ordered pasta with meat sauce and asked for it to be hot. They have a super hot option with a disclaimer such as "If your order super hot, don't complain that it is too hot to eat". As a Chef and in the F&B hospitality my whole life (30 years). The "Hot" that they used was simply crushed red pepper. A huge amount of it. I use crushed red pepper in all my home cooking because I like the heat, but when I want it to give more heat, I add other items, not just crushed red pepper. The amount of crushed red pepper wasn't even cooked into the sauce, it was just thrown on top. So I can only imagine what their hottest dishes look like. read more

Really really wanted to love this place but couldn't have gone worse. So the place is a little bit deceiving there's no seating area, just a place to order and about a few seats to sit while you wait. There was only 1 guy really working and a lady and some young guy honestly just complains about their staff in the kitchen so loudly that I almost stepped out of the restaurant so I didn't have to listen to it. The place was really clean but the food tasted awful. Their salad was pretty expensive and you could have gotten the same thing in a pre made package at Publix. The pasta... was pretty bad. The bolognese was almost no different than the spaghetti... the only upside was the portions were great. I can't believe i am just finding out about this place just 5 min away. It's take out only which I discovered when we arrived ready to sit and have dinner. Ordering takes a bit of thought, you order your pasta, then the sauce and finally the protein. I ordered the spaghetti with carbonara sauce, we also ordered the gnocchi with vodka sauce. Oh my it was YUMMO. The pasta itself is wonderful could eat it with just butter. You can buy a bottle of wine to too, all bottles $20. We will definitely order again from here. What's pictured on Uber eats versus what you get. What I received was about 25% of the chicken and maybe 25% of the pasta shown on the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. Not worth $24, maybe $8.99. With as little chicken and pasta as I received, there was almost no sauce. Olive Garden tastes better, bigger portions and price is cheaper. In my opinion. It is only take out but they package everything very well. The portions are good and a lot, we would have left over tomorrow. The gnocchi with sausage and vodka sauce was really good. Miguel the owner is the sweetest. went there a few weeks ago for the first time and he gave me a run down of the menu. showed me that I could create my own pasta or choose from one of their specialities. I was looking around for good Italian food while I was visiting Tampa and saw that Don Rigatoni was close by to where I live. Since it's also a local business, and the reviews looked alright, I gave it a try. Like other reviews say, the place is small, intended for takeout. I ordered the beef lasagna, since it seemed like a solid choice. While waiting in the waiting area, there was a surprising lack of noise from the kitchen; there was something that sounded like a clothes drier in the back, but nothing that would suggest someone was actively cooking in the back. 10 or so minutes later, the lasagna came out. The lasagna was very small for a dish that cost 23$ (which had an additional cost for the marinara sauce by the way, something that seems like it should come with the lasagna). In addition, it wasn't hot; only warm when I opened the box about a minute later. It came with a small roll about the size of a computer mouse. The taste was mediocre at best, like something an amateur chef could make. To give the dish some credit, it was relatively filling. But for 23$, I expected a much larger portion or better quality food. Was very disappointed with Don Rigatoni, would not recommend. read more

I ordered a vegetarian lasagna and let me tell you, it was the Marie Callender's frozen vegetarian lasagna being passed as "authentic" and costing twice as much with frozen spinach on top not even fresh. The garlic bread is the frozen coles from Walmart soggy and once again they are trying to pass it off as their own! I was really craving principesca sauce. I got there extremely early as I had called ahead and didn't realize how close I was. So I know it's the middle of Covid but I didn't mind sitting there and I actually thought I could get a glass of wine. It does seem like the chef is by herself and wine service wasn't a possibility. So I boringly just comfortably sat on my phone for about 20 to 25 minutes until my food was ready. It was totally my mistake. Being that it's an express pasta option I picked up my food and came back home. The pasta was in an easy to-go container and I was starving by this point. I was trying excited to try the clams with my favorite sauce. Unfortunately the principessa sauce wasn't as creamy as I would've anticipated and was much more acidic being more of a tomato base then having a better mixture of both the creamy and the tomato base. Nonetheless being starving I gobbled it down. The clams were a nice pair. I probably wouldn't be getting the same sauce from here if I come back. It seems express is the specialty so basic is a better way to go. It's just unfortunate because for the price tag it was disappointing. Truthfully, I ended up trying at my own sauce and was more pleased but I was probably just being biased based on my efforts. OK, now I understand that having empanadas at an express pasta establishment probably isn't what you would think. But I was starving I really wanted to make sure I could eat this as soon as possible. I could've gotten the same type of an empanada from a gas station. And yes, I have had an empanada from the gas station before. It was basic, as if it were heated up in a microwave. After a grueling Thursday, I finally got around to finding my appetite at around 11pm. Lucky for me this South Tampa Gem features late night hours & fast turnover time- especially living a stones throw away in Soho. I ordered the side Caprese, side Caesar(both fresh, delicious, and generous portion size), and the Spaghetti Marinara - with a sauce seasoned to perfection. I also ordered a Chicken Empanada so good that I devoured it before photographing its beauty or opening any of my other items. I wanted a pasta in sauce with a side of meatballs but was told they do not do that. I had to order pasta and have the meat added to the dish. That was my first turn off. I am a fan of pasta in vodka, puttanesca, alfredo, etc. but always like meatballs in the traditional marinara sauce on the side. I ordered the puttanesca and asked for it spicy. It was definitely HOT. The sauce was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. Steve ordered the Gnocci Princessa and his was good too but not great. The portion size was more like a side of pasta or the portion of leftovers I take home after I eat at most Italian restaurants. I was able to finish the entire portion and still want more after. The decor of this place is really nice inside and they have wine available for take out. Located in a small, unsuspecting plaza just off of Packwood in between Platt and Cleveland (my two favorite one-way streets in this city), Don Rigatoni is serving up mouth-watering pasta dishes at head turning prices - and the best part of all - you can CREATE YOUR OWN entree! The create-your-own pasta menu feature is a huge plus for someone who is as picky as I tend to be with pasta. Seriously, I am an Alfredo sauce FIEND - to the point where I almost never bother ordering it at a restaurant when I know that my own recipe is the one that basically epitomizes perfection - but as I learned last night, Don Rigatoni has me beat (just the mere memory of their Fresh Cream in fettuccine has me eager for my next take-out sesh). Anywho, I can only comment on the two dishes that I've consumed since the pasta bar's inception: 1. Cheese tortellini tossed in the signature principessa sauce; 2. I ordered a pasta dish from then through Grubhub which just kept getting delayed and delayed until it unfortunately got cancelled due to their inability to find a driver. This sucked as I was ordering from NY for my partner living in Tampa--I couldn't just go pick it up for him and deliver it myself ! I placed the same exact order on Doordash, forgetting to put it in my partners name and everything, AND they were about to close! We went to Don Rigatoni on a Friday evening for some takeout (it's a concept restaurant that is takeout exclusive) and was met with some amazing options for build your own pasta with add ins. The selection of homemade everything was amazing and tasted as good as I had hoped by the time we made it home.
