Used to be a great place to eat. Had the worst plate of Mexican food today I've ever tasted. Could not eat it. Wouldn't even feed it to a dog. It was a lunch plate that had a beef burrito, shrimp chili releno, and a chicken quesadilla. I only took one bite of each item. The shredded chicken in the quesadilla tasted like chicken out the can, the shrimp in the stuffed pepper still had the shells on them, tasted old. I gave my boyfriend half of the quesadilla to let him try how bad it was..he agreed, took a couple bites and left it on his plate. When I told management that I could not eat my dish and wanted to send it back they argued with me and insisted the food was fresh and fine. They would not just simply take it off the bill. After arguing me for a few minutes she finally said she will have to charge me for the quesadilla since we ate some of it. I hope it was worth losing a regular customer for her terrible way she handled this. read more

We just arrived in the Kenner area to visit with my son and his family, and everyone was starved so we decided to give Don Jose's a try. It was lunch time on a Friday so we were able to try the Lunch Menu. We ordered a couple of Queso Appetizers, and the kids demolished that in no time. The salsa, chips, and queso were all excellent and fresh. The chips were homemade and not greasy like some places. It's a fairly large restaurant with plenty of parking. Once inside, we were greeted and seated immediately despite having a fairly large group. Staff were friendly and helpful. Between all of us we ordered the Chimi-Changa, Combination Plate, and the Chicken and Steak Fajitas. The lunch portions were still enormous, and food was brought home. I came here for lunch with my friend on Sunday. She had been before and recommended it. They start you off with a basket of complimentary chips and salsa that were pretty good. Lunch with my wife. (yes we out together a lot) Today is Monday July 15, 2019 and we sat down to eat at 11:15AM. We were promptly greeted and seated in a booth. The booth and table were clean and the a/c was on cold. A fresh basket of warm chips and cold red salsa was delivered and we order our drinks immediately. I ordered my typical water with lemon and my wife had a lemonade with no ice. These are served in GIANT cups. I then ordered off the lunch menu and my wife off the regular menu. I had the lunch taco plate ($7.25) served with two crispy tacos along with rice and refried beans. My wife had the chicken mole' ($13.99) also with rice and two flour tortillas. Since she didn't even open the foil wrapper with the tortillas I cannot honestly comment on those. Let us just say this food was nothing out of the ordinary, served luke warm cooked properly. I like my mexican food steaming hot so this missed the bar by several orders of magnitude. The salsa lacked any body or flavor profile and was made as if to please the masses who don't know any better. Shall we say blah? The highlight was the service. Prompt, polite, and efficient. Very pleasant. The lunch plate was a pretty good value for the price but the chicken mole lacked the pizazz a $14 plate of mexican food should have. I would go again but stick to the lunch menu and go early like we did so as to be served with luke warm food instead of cold food. read more

I left this review on Google Review but I'm leaving it here too... I ordered delivery through DoorDash after a really long day, and I accidentally put it through as pick up. I am a flight attendant on a layover with no vehicle, so there was no way for me to go and pick it up without paying for an Uber to do so. DoorDash basically told me there was nothing they could do. I called the restaurant and Alexis answered. She went above and beyond for me, calling DoorDash and telling them they needed to rectify the situation, and they did! She was absolutely amazing. Before I could say actually we can't see the tvs from here (my son wanted to watch the saints ) she ran off. Before I start typing know that I do not care about paying for good quality food. I recently got two steak tacos. My total was over $10 for the two tacos, nothing extra. Ok... that's fine but, the meat smells like roach and it is hard to chew. In other words, cheap meat for a very high price. I wish we have Habaneros on this side of the lake, Habaneros doesn't just take the money from customers, they put their heart when they cook the meals. Extremely dirty! Great staff sadly operating by poor management. Ordered main dishes and came out within minutes and of course served cold, chicken beef pork all cold. Spoke to shift leader and she offered to place in microwave. Needless to say we left. Great fajitas! Great margaritas! Great atmosphere! We ordered the the chicken and steak fajitas for two and it could have fed way more than two! The chicken, fajitas, and veggies were perfectly seasoned and delicious! It also came with two plates of toppings including lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, rice and beans! All delicious! First of all , we frequent this restaurant three or four times a month, almost once a week on either Friday or Saturday. We have a usual group of between 5 and 15 people. Usually this restaurant has decent food and service. Well, last Saturday 6/5/21, I ordered Steak and Shrimp, medium rare. What they brought was a well done steak (hockey puck style) and overcooked inedible shrimp. I made our waiter aware and he said he would take care of it. So he cleared my plate and all the other diners at our table. We were ready to go. The restaurant was almost empty, closing and a young lady walked up and said they could cook me another steak. I said it was not necessary as long as they took the dinner off my bill. Well, they charged me. So I paid it. Like I said, we come her almost every week. You would think that might mean something. Not here I guess. I'm not going to say we won't ever come here again, but I will say it will be a long time. (at least a year) They have another Mexican restaurant further down Vets. Soooo good! Was trying to find an authentic Mexican restaurant near the MSY airport and found this gem. Food was all delicious and fresh. We started with the Mexican starter appetizer that had a little bit of everything. Then as entrees, we had the carne asada and the carnitas (both served with grilled onions). Each plate comes with tortilla, beans, lettuce, tomato and guacamole. I also ordered the premium medium margarita. The margaritas are HUGE. A medium could easily be a large. I thought this place had good food but it does not!!!. The employees are friendly I can say that but the chef or whoever cook does not know how to cook Mexican at all. I order a chimichanga and I decided I wanted to add shrimp. Worst mistake I ever made the shrimp still had the black poo inside the shrimp and it wasn't just one or two it was all of them. Great, exceptional service but lackluster food. We both ordered house margaritas, queso dip and guacamole to start. The margaritas were served in warm glasses with barely any salt on my rim. The queso dip and guacamole was okay. We ordered chorizo tacos each which were the smallest tacos I've ever seen. I didn't realize their tacos were for kids. The chorizo was unevenly portioned and the accompanying beans were gross. Overall, the place has fantastic service but the food needs to be better. read more
