I was reminded of the reason I love writing reviews after coming to Don Chuy's Tako. My family and I came here randomly while passing through the town on our way home from Tarrytown, and were blown away. Don Chuy's is a hole in the wall, a true diamond in a very quiet town. We came on a Saturday night and it was empty, so we got a table quickly and the service was super fast! The ingredients used are high quality and fresh. Portions were large and we ended up taking home a full order because we were stuffed. I can't pick a favorite dish because everything was literally perfect. What We Had: 1. House Chips: came warm and toasty, with flavorful salsa 2. Nachos: large portion with loads of toppings 3. Sweet Plantains: BEST sweet plantains we've ever had. They were soft on the inside and melt in your mouth, with a perfectly crispy and caramelized exterior. 4. Taco Bowl Salad: The chip bowl itself was crispy and delicious, and it came with a delicious cilantro sauce that was slightly sweet. The guac that came with it was tangy and so incredibly fresh. 5. Chicken Burrito & Steak Chimichanga: chock full of toppings. The chimichanga had a crunchy seared tortilla and was absolutely fire. 6. Churros: they came piping hot out of the fryer with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. I was already stuffed but these were WORTH IT! 7. Horchata: my brother really liked his drink. The vanilla and spices were perfectly balanced against the creaminess. The prices are extremely reasonable and worth it. The waitress was friendly, and the owner Gustavo was extremely personable. His family owns the restaurant, but had to go back to Mexico due to medical reasons and he is running the place by himself. They get some takeout orders, but ever since COVID, have been quiet inside. If you get the chance to try this restaurant, you NEED to come! This is our new favorite Mexican restaurant, and even though we live an hour away from it, we will 1000% be back! read more

The service was impeccable The decor was spartan and might remind you of an authentic restaurant off the beaten path in Mexico. Worn wood tables and admirably sturdy chairs. Lighting was stellar and acoustics good due to music loudness and bit more than for my liking. The portions of food were average and not over sized with nicely proportioned ingredients. Nachos ingredients were not speckled on top of the chips but more in dollops to the side but for jalapeños. Maybe I missed it, but not so much cheese. My taco salad bowl was brining with shrimp and chicken and both were cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The cap of cheese was pleasant and tasted just fine. read more

I came here for lunch. I was expecting this place to be cheaper than the prices I saw when I got inside. I thought this place was a hole in the wall type where the food will be okay and the prices will be lower. The woman at the front counter was really nice and friendly. Of course, you are prompted for a tip when you pay. The food was nice. I had the shrimp tacos which also came with tortilla chips with salsa and black beans and white rice. The portions were just enough which was nice not to leave overstuffed or having to take it home. It cost $22 including a 10% tip for lunch. Just meh. Wanted to love this place as much as I loved Taco Shack. Unfortunately the food looked better than it tasted. Steak tacos tasted way over lime flavored. The cut of meat was cheap, tough with no steak flavor at all. Chicken tacos and enchiladas were extremely dry and chewy. Maybe I ordered wrong but authentic Mexican tacos should have carne asada tacos full of juicy Mexican flavor, not just lime juice. It's a far cry from Los Tacos #1 in Manhattan. read more

Great fresh food and service is consistently very good! My regular is the Avocado salad on a bed of fresh greens, tomatoes and Jicama that is so good and refreshing. I stick to what I like, so I get the Cilantro dressing, and while you can get a protein with the salad, my fav is a side of tortillas.
