I have passed Roberto's multiple times - it's a favorite lunch spot of my colleagues but despite all their food looking so good I had never tried it for myself. My chance finally came the other day when I forgot my lunch at home - we were all in the mood for some tacos so I decided to partake and have my first Roberto's experience. Roberto's is a Mexican restaurant that sits among a number of other businesses on East Post Rd. The restaurant isn't large, but they do a great job making the most of the space with a few tables in the dining area in addition to their takeout service. I love the decor - it's slightly over-the-top Mexican but I like when Mexican restaurants do that. The menu has a good selection of Mexican staples; tacos were speaking to me so I went with those. They had a good amount to choose from, and I ultimately went with two chicken ones. The tacos were tasty - good complements mixed with the protein, and the right amount of filling. They also came with some flavorful (and spicy) sauces which worked great with the tacos. Service was fast, and overall I had a great first experience at Roberto's. With Mexican restaurant competition being so high in White Plains, Roberto's sticks out by serving solid food at the right price. read more

I had worked a tough day and was exhausted. So I did what I always do. Look for something new and fun on Grubhub. I ordered El Acedero and regular cheese nachos. The best quesadillas!! I have brought many people here and no one has been disappointed. Authentic Mexican food. I haven't tried a dish I didn't like from here. The drinks are huge! The service was great. They are slow to bring the check but I think it's out of respect to not be rushed which provides a nice laid back atmosphere. Definitely kid/family friendly, I normally go with coworkers and I've actually seen people come here solo with their laptops during lunch hour. Definitely worth checking out. Stopped by Roberto's this evening. I have to say the overall Yelp rating seems to be a bit high considering whats going on here. First, the decor and ambiance is at once maddening and amazing. I actually loved the cheesy decor when I walked in; gold tinsel, red Christmas lights, and plastic banana trees in the window, and vinyl coated tables dotting the floor. However, the ambiance is horrendous. There were no other customers, so I assume it was the staffs kids that were running around, screaming, playing video games, and watching TV here at insane volume levels. Is it a day care center or a restaurant? If that isn't annoying enough, they have a rabbit hopping around the floor, and some parrots flopping around in the back. Is it even hygienic to have animals running loose in a restaurant? Very questionable. As for the food, it was hot and the portions were massive, but the quality was average at best and it was not freshly made in my opinion. We got a pork sopes and a spicy pork enchilada entree. I liked the sopes, but the corn base was the only interesting part of the dish as the flavorless shredded cheese and very fatty pork were a bit unappetizing. As for the enchilada, my girl found it impossible to eat - the meat was entirely fat. I don't mind a bit of fat on pork, but the meat in our dishes was really disgusting and inedible. Total cost; $32 for 2 entrees and 2 bottles of water. I have to say, this is really expensive for what we got. High pricing, questionable hygienic practices, obnoxious volume levels, and average food...not a great deal. Can't recommend this place. read more

Roberto's serves large and affordable portions of good Americanized Mexican food. They also offer free delivery - a huge plus if there are few restaurants within walking distance of your workplace in White Plains. I'm going to go out on a limb here: one should not expect authentic Mexican food in White Plains. As long as you accept this premise, you will appreciate the goodness that Roberto's serves up. Surely, the salsa is not that spicy and the guacamole is watered down, but the food is consistent and comprised of quality ingredients. I've had the carne asada and chicken burritos. Granted the muted flavors are catered to the median American palette and they (**gasp**) even use American cheese, but the burritos are pretty tasty and stuffed with fresh ingredients (tomatoes, lettuce, rice, beans, and (upon request) avocado slices). "When in White Plains . . . put American cheese in your Mexican food." (Pretty sure that was St. Ambrose.) In all fairness, Roberto's seems to use a mixture of melted American cheese and (possibly) mozzarella. Roberto's is a solid lunch option. read more

When you approach Roberto's from the street it is very unassuming. Don't let that fool you. When you walk in the place is awash with color and Spanish music to get you in the mood. The staff is welcoming. The food is great and plentiful. We has Sosa, tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Everyone enjoyed. read more

Good food poor service. No coffee to go with dessert. The guy said they didn't have coffee. Guy (worker up front, only worker) forgot to get me water. When I asked for Sala to go with my quesadilla he looked at me like I was crazy. Or had 2 heads. Not the biggest fan of this place. We came in because we were hungry before going to visit a friend in the hospital and the service was super slow. I hate to downgrade my review of Robertos but I have to drop them down to 3 stars. A place that serves 5 star food, has 1 star service. Owners are cold, and quite cheap. Over the past year or so my office has placed lunch orders almost weekly at Robertos. Although the food is still very good, the staff and customer service has gone way down hill. If you ask for chips with your order, you practically have to beg, no salsa comes with them (although if you sit with the restuarant they are on your table). We easily spent 40-50 an order and still hot sauce is again begged for, and you are lucky of they give you enough to even share. The icing on the cake today was a side of guac we ordered. I wish I was quick enough to snap a picture of it, but the portion wasnt enough to share with even 3 people. For the price it was not worth it. I would say it was a touch more than a tablespoons worth of guac. Again I hate to say that I do not enjoy coming here anymore solely based on the actions of the owners, and not based on the food (which is ALWAYS good...). Robertos - please stop being cheap. Your prices are not cheap by any means, and the food is worth it, but be a bit more generous to your loyal customers who would like salsa and hot sauce with their orders. I will gladly make another 5 star review if things change. read more

Went to Roberto's with a couple of co-workers for lunch today and the food was muy superbo. Had a steak quesadilla which was actually TWO steak quesadillas which were actually TWO GIANT steak quesdaillas. The presentation on the plate was much prettier than expected. The sides of rice and beans were plentiful and the entire meal was more than this one man could finish. But I certainly tried! My dining partners were also satisfied with their meals and we had a couple cervezas each which were splendiferous as well. The only bad thing I have to say about this joint is that the jukebox randomly started playing a very loud, Mexican marimba. It came from out of nowhere. Like a ghost in the machine. And then, it stopped. We resumed conversation and forgot about it for awhile but then, lo and behold, about 15 minutes later it started up again and it was hard to talk over the noise. Oh, also, there were Valentine's Day decorations everywhere which would have been nice, ahem, 8 days ago. I'm kidding. I mean. I'm not kidding, those decorations were really there but I didn't give a shit. The food was good. 4 stars. Eat here. read more

Sort of an upscale "whole in the wall" place. Never gave it much thought- but the food is awesome. I've only gone in to pick up food a few times. Its very casual. Some of the staff did not speak English so a few times I had a hard time communicating. The tortas (Mexican sandwhiches) are my favorite I've never had anything like them and crave them all the time. The tacos and tortillas are also very good and authentic. This is one of my favorites places to ho for lunch and I would recommend to anyone. read more

My boyfriend and I just had a delicious meal at Roberto's. I too don't typically write about my dining experiences but I was so impressed by not only the food and great prices but the wonderful staff that I had to comment. Roberto's is a smallish, counter style restaurant (although they did provide us with fabulous table service) that provides excellent Mexican food at extremely affordable prices. My boyfriend and I split a beef tostada order (comes with 3), fried chicken torta (it was AMAZING and huge), spicy pork taco, two side orders of rice, two bottles of water and a rice pudding for $25. The food arrived promptly and was very fresh and tasty. It is an extremely casual place but the food was amazing. More importantly, the staff was super friendly and very attentive. Ok, this is not typically a 4 star place, but given the options in the immediate area, it gets the benefit of a curve. Roberto's looks odd, it has a convenience store/deli feel but it's a mexican place. There is semi-waiter service. You can grab a menu from the front and sit down and eat. You have to go up front to order and grab your own drinks from the cooler, but your food will also be brought out to you. The whole feel is odd to describe, I don't know. Oh, and it's in a crappy area of White Plains. Just a heads up. It's not all like, you're about to get murdered, but it's also not all about the beautiful scenery. Let's get down to what you're here for though, the food. The foods decent. They bring you chips and salsa. I thought it sucked, but maybe the salsa tickles your fancy, who knows. She had the quesadilla, I had a chicken burrito. I know, I know, but we weren't feeling adventurous. At first she was disappointed, and found it bland, but that was just the edges, inside was packed with flavor, overall pretty good. Big too, enough for lunch for her the next day (That is if I remembered to give it to her, but it was a nice snack for me a couple days later). Mine was just overall good. I ordered a chicken taco and a chicken burrito not knowing how large the servings would be . The taco was average size but the burrito was large and came with rice. $11 for both. The food here is decent, but what outweighs the decent food is the earsplitting music that won't stop. The atmosphere is fun, but not what I expect when I go out to eat. I want to feel welcome and talk with friends, not scream to be heard like I'm at a Mexican rave. The wait staff dresses like risqué dolls, which must be a ploy to keep beer sales up. The clothes don't mix well with a room full of drunk men... lots of cat calling and head turning. Someone described Roberto's food as Americanized. Though I hate to give a family owned restaurant two stars (It seems family owned) based on other things besides the food but the experience here was bizarre. The servers and staff were hospitable but there was a child there watching television at an unacceptable volume considering this was a business. My second complaint concerned the bill. I believe they overcharged my acquaintances and I. When confronted with this issue, the server basically seemed not to comprehend what I was trying to impart to her. The only way the bill could have been correct is if they charged exorbitant prices for chips and salsa which are usually complimentary, a side of cheese and sour cream. (tiny amounts of each) Either way, it was maddening. As for the food, guacamole, I thought, was excellent. As for the rest, it was good but not fantastic. We will not patronize this place again due to the other factors mentioned though. read more
