Unlike several places we've visited in Bishop, you can actually come in, sit down, and order at your table, which I appreciated. The wet sauce had good flavor, and the rice itself was actually very tasty. Now for the problem: I ordered an asada burrito, but I'm pretty sure the rice ordered an asada garnish. The burrito seemed to be about 90% rice. For nearly $23, I expected the asada to have a starring role--not a brief cameo. I found myself digging through the burrito like I was on an archaeological expedition looking for carne asada. Every time I found a tiny piece, I felt like I should yell, "WE GOT ONE!" Unfortunately, the few pieces I did find were cut into very small squares and had very little flavor. I grew up in a family that made a lot of carne asada, so my personal preference is well-seasoned meat with some char on the outside while staying juicy inside. This was very different. I understand every chef has their own style, and I'm definitely not saying my family's way is the only way to make asada. But if I'm paying almost $23 for an asada burrito, I shouldn't need a search party to locate the asada. That said, I don't like tearing down people who are putting themselves out there and trying to build something. The sauce was good, the rice had flavor--maybe a little too much representation --and I do think there's potential here. I genuinely hope they keep working at it. Give that meat some seasoning, some char, and a much bigger role in the burrito, and this could be a completely different review. Until then, the rice is definitely the employee of the month.
