My wife and I both have MSG headaches after our meal. 18 months ago, this was an authentic Mexican food experience, but now the only thing authentic was the habanero hot sauce. Don Chèques is a great local Mexican restaurant with wonderful service and great food! The frozen strawberry and mango margaritas are incredible with pieces of real fruit blended up. Ordered the Cubana torta and they put sliced hot dogs on it, I guess to substitute for the ham? The guacamole has the flavor of the plastic bag or container it sits in. $13 for a hot dog sandwich with fries. Skip the disappointment here and go 1/4 mile down the road to McDonalds where you will surely be disappointed as expected. read more

Picked up some take out food and it was great as it always is at this taqueria. Prices are about average for everything I've seen on the menu compared to other quality Mexican restaurants I've been to, even those on the west coast. The Fajita Burrito I got was MASSIVE and came with a bag of chips and some salsa, all for about $19 including a tip. The service was good and the usual host/waitress was very polite. read more

My husband and I came in for lunch the other day because I was desperately craving a torta de milanesa. I'm pregnant and it's all I could think about. While it's not an option on their menu, I noticed they do have milanesa so I asked to have a torta with milanesa. They happily accommodated my request (after some brief clarification that I actually wanted a sandwich lol) and IT WAS DELICIOUS. First of all, this was hands down the best milanesa de pollo that I have EVER had and I try it at almost every Mexican restaurant. Second, I don't know what magic bread they used but it was nicely toasted and just perfect. Add in lots of Mayo, lettuce, fresh avocado, and some of the house habanero hot sauce and I was in heaven. Also, the portion was huge. I was able to take half the sandwich home and have it for dinner. The only downside is that instead of satisfying the craving, it's ALL I can think about! I even leaned over to my husband in church today and whispered, "I can't focus because I cannot stop thinking about that torta." Thanks y'all for accommodating me. Not sure who would give this place less than 5 but there's always one in the bunch. I had the Fajita Supreme and it was delicious. Sweet tea was excellent, chips and salsa was excellent. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. Service was perfect as well. read more

Just ate here today, and everything was delicious. I'm pretty new in the area , from Northern California, and I'm pretty used to dammed good Mexican food. I ordered the 4 item combo plate w/ chicken and beef and my wife grabbed the enchilada verde plate. It was all super good. It was easy to order a full meal that was under $10, and they also have daily specials and a ala carte menu on the back. Aside from maybe smallish portions? I almost missed this place. I was looking for authentic Mexican, and after looking into a number of places touted by locals as authentic (they're not), I decided on this place based on the menu I saw online. When I got to the shopping center it's in, I didn't see it and thought it must have closed. I drove away, then stopped and called. No answer. I checked yelp, found one review, it was only nine days old. I went back. If you come in from N Hills as I did, it's past everything on the very end, on the other side of Burke where I didn't expect to find it. I'm glad I turned back. Yes, this one's authentic. I got four tacos, asada, al pastor, carnitas, and lengua. The asada was a bit dry but tasted good, the rest were just plain delicious. They also have sopes, huaraches, tortas, and a number of meat dishes. I expect they have burritos and enchiladas and maybe seafood dishes, but I skimmed through quickly until I hit the a la carte page, then stopped reading. I had to get me some tacos! read more

The Don Cheques special is amazing, I had no idea that cacti was so delicious. The only thing I didn't care for was the chips. Everything else is wonderful. The service was great both times I've been recently. I loved the atmosphere. I will definitely be going back. read more

The food had no flavor. The guacamole had some much lime in it you could not taste the Avocados. Lime keeps the Avacados from turning black. The Margaritas tasted like water. read more
