Nikko A.

We were looking to try a new sushi place and Domodachi came through! We ordered take out, but the staff was so friendly they all gave us big smiles and thanked us for ordering (even the chefs). The spicy tuna roll was amazing and the salmon avocado roll was to DIEEE for. The quality of the sushi was outstanding and you could taste the freshness. 10/10 would definitely recommend this place. I'll be ordered again soon!

Pretty disappointed with this place. The special rolls were good (the crazy salmon was the best thing I ate, fuji mountain was so so). The sashimi and sushi were not good. The fish was too fishy and didn't taste very fresh and we couldn't even finish the platter. Sad because the service was very good :/

Anusha V.

One of the best sushi places in the area! The sushi is extremely fresh and tastes amazing! They start the meal by serving soup and edamame on the house. We then got the special sushi for 2 to share. We were so full by the end of the meal that I practically had to crawl out of there!! The service is wonderful and people are very warm. It is byob and there is a liquor store right opposite to the restaurant for people like us who forget to bring a bottle of wine! Overall I'd definitely come here again and again because this is going down as one of my favorite sushi places!

Absolutely love the sushi here! The first time I ate here I underestimated the serving sizes. They definitely don't skimp out on the rolls! The restaurant itself has really great ambience with wooden decor. Staff is super nice and helpful, which makes the dining experience that much better. Seating is on the more limited side so I'd avoid large part sizes. I highly recommend the Fuji Mountain. It's piled high and jam packed with some great stuff! I really want to try some of the kitchen entrees next time because the sushi has been stellar both times we dined here!

Had gone for lunch yesterday, and I have to say it was great. The sushi was fresh and I LOVED the edamame they served. So good, it's not just salted. Not sure which ones what sushi, but I have to say it was super filling and so good.

Solid sushi! I liked it! It tasted fresh, it was good and the precautions were pretty good when I came to pick up my takeout. We ordered the Sushi for 2 Deluxe and it came with a lot of sushi for $65! I thought it was a good price for what we got (Sushi Deluxe is 24 pieces of sushi, rainbow roll, dynamite roll and california roll). I thought that was a pretty good deal in itself but they also included some free edamame! Usually I'm pretty indifferent to those fuzzy green soy beans but these were yummy! They're seasoned differently than just with salt like how most places do it. Definitely try this place! (FYI- it's located in the old location of Nizi Sushi.)

This place is SO good. We got the Spicy Salmon Crunchy Avocado, Salmon Mango Avocado, and the Dynamite Roll (Special). All three rolls were amazing. Service was great. Portions were solid. 10/10 experience. My fav was the Spicy Salmon Avocado with crunchies on top and a side of spicy mayo. Definitely will be back

DomoArigato, DomoDachi! When my Yelp Elite Bro and Sis asked what I was craving for dinner I said, "Whatever." That whatever turned out to be my favorite meal that week. We called ahead for takeout service. We ordered several different rolls, a bulgogi bento box, a chicken katsu bento box, and dumplings which came with miso soup and complimentary edamame. All the rolls were delicious with the flavorful sauces, the crispness of the crunch, the perfectly made sushi rice and the fresh tasting fish. Each bite was enjoyed thoroughly. The dumplings tasted homemade and not from a bag in the freezer section at the grocery. They were stuffed with goodness and did not need to be dipped in the sauce because they were packed with plenty of flavor. My picky, McNugget loving God-kids devoured their bento boxes. I was hoping they didn't want the shumai so I can eat them but alas they loved it and ate it all. Looking forward to visiting DomoDachi again!!

I had this very same smile after indulging in Domodachi's delicious food.

The last Saturday in May. We have ourselves another #YelpsBigNightIn on deck. I wasn't going to pass up the oppor-tuna-ty (warning: low-flying dad puns!) to try a newer sushi place a town over with a perfect 5-star rating here on Yelp. The prior residents at this location (Nizi Sushi) were (and still are) wildly overrated in my humble opinion. But the current occupants? Positively delectable. Immaculate looking rolls that were overflowing with flavor. (The aftertaste lingered a good hour after dinner and kept reminding me just how good their food was.) A bonus container of free (!) delicious (!) edamame was a nice surprise. My wallet wasn't too happy (almost $20 for their 'Japanese Hot Dog Roll'?!) but the food is firing on all cylinders. Cool staff. The restaurant looks great inside (even though take-out is the only option nowadays). There's plenty of sushi heavy-hitters within a ten mile radius and Domodachi has definitely broken into the Top 5.

Assorted sashimi platter. Only the salmon was edible.

Jackie C.

I don't know how this place has so many five star reviews, but this is easily the most disappointing sashimi I've had in years. The quality of the fish was around supermarket sushi. It was just bland, flavorless, and for the sashimi assortment, I got mostly salmon, which is good, because I had to spit the tuna and the other fish out. The dark spot on the one piece of sashimi? That's a fish scale. There were a few other fish scales interspersed, so I don't think they were really keeping clean cutting boards while prepping the fish. I typically order from a different place, but they had a much longer wait time on UberEats and now I know why this one had a much shorter wait time. What a waste of money.

Melinda M.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Everything was delicious and super filling! My boyfriend and I go here often for dinner and the food is superb and staff is so kind. All of their specialty rolls are great. The tempura is a little different but still delicious. FOOD I RECOMMEND: the seared salmon appetizer, soft shell crab tempura, the lobster roll, anything with seared crab on top, NOTE: It is a smaller restaurant, they don't seem to have a proper reservation system so it is first come first serve for tables. bigger groups may have to wait longer. BE PATIENT. Often times I see people come in and leave soon after because they can't wait- then 5 minutes later a table opens up. The staff is trying as hard as they can to seat you! Just be assertive but kind (remind the the woman and male host, how many are in your party). It's a small business, don't be rude! If you can't wait just order take out :)

Jay L.

LOVE the tebow time roll and eat therford roll! Absolutely delicious. This is our favorite go to every time we come here. Service is always great as the owners and staff are so friendly! 5 stars all the way

We ordered takeout on a Friday night and got this beautifully crafted sushi platter. We put in a pretty big order and we're so amazed at the quality of each dish. 100% would order again. probably the best sushi in town!

Wow. Just Wow. The food here is outstanding. I have a 2 year old son, who I ordered edamame for... we had to place another order because my family couldn't help but eat it all. My wife had the shrimp tempura and she even says its the best she's ever had. Now as for me.... I'm a bit of a sushi snob.... but mannnn, this sushi was amazing. THE FRESHEST SUSHI I HAVE EVER HAD! If my stomach could smile.. The Spicy tuna is essential if you go here. And the Alaska roll, wow, the salmon is just on another level. Domodachi just set the standard for every sushi spot I'll ever go to. read more

Came here on a Sunday night with my friends and it truly did not disappoint. From the service to the quality of the food, everything was top-tier. For appetizers, we ordered the Edamame, Miso Soup, and Kani Salad which were all so flavorful. The Kani Salad had a nice kick to it (you can choose between spicy/non-spicy when ordering) and the Edamame, unlike other places, was coated in a sauce that gave it a rich flavor. For entrees, we got the Sashimi Deluxe, Crazy Salmon Roll, My Love Tuna Roll, Tiger Roll, and Dynamite Roll. All of the sushi was fresh and it definitely satisfied my cravings. I recently found out about this spot but I'm so glad I did as it will be my new go-to! read more

I'm SO glad Domodachi opened up in town! They easily have the best sushi in the area because the fish tastes much fresher than its competition. We started ordering delivery from here (free delivery for orders $20+) due to the pandemic. I've never actually been able to dine in, but the woman who answers the phone is so friendly and has never gotten my lengthy orders wrong. The food always arrives promptly, and they sometimes even include free edamame with it. We usually order a sushi + sashimi combo (which comes with miso soup) and a few rolls. All of it is so fresh and flavorful! In particular, be sure to order their titular roll, the Domodachi Roll. After trying their sushi, I'll never go to another sushi place in New Jersey again. This is the new sushi spot in the old Nizi spot... And I love them. The lady running the place is a sweetheart and yes, the food is good too! Generous portions and decent prices. I absolutely loved their soy flavored edamame that were brought out for free. I think they are still getting into their groove so things aren't perfect. For example, the shrimp tempura roll was overcooked the second time I ordered it but fine the first. And this is likely because they were busier the second time I visited. However, I'm giving them a break because the sushi was amazing. I'm not a huge roll person so I focus on sushi and they buy the good fish. Ha. Give them a shot. Plenty of parking and a nice wonderful host who greets you. That sets the mood off right! read more

Great find during these crazy times. Our current sushi spot was been closed since this chaos started. So after 2-3 weeks, found this take out sushi spot with great reviews, so wife and I decided to give it a try. The lady who took my order brought the food to our car since she knew we were waiting outside due to social distancing. Once we got home we discovered some generous portion rolls with plenty of yummy goodies inside. I was so excited to try the new sushi spot that I totally forgot to take a picture. Random find while passing through Rutherford, NJ but also a delicious find! Domodachi is a casual sushi spot, likely a big take out spot, but they do it all so well. Ordered a variety of sushi rolls and appetizers to share and was impressed with the quality of the fish and portion sizes. The rolls were beautifully presented on a large tray. Service was above and beyond - the staff was so jolly and created a positive atmosphere. The restaurant is BYOB with a liquor store conveniently located across the street. We had the sesame chicken, chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce, and some lomein. All of the chicken was cooked perfectly, and they pack the boxes to the brim. The sesame chicken wasn't overly breaded, which I really appreciated. I hate when you bite into a juicy-looking piece of chicken and it turns out that it's all batter. These were lunch specials and for the side item, you only get to choose from an egg roll, wonton soup, or a soda. Would be nice if they included hot and sour soup as a choice because that's what I usually like to get. That will be the next step - to try their hot and sour soup. If that's good, I may have found my new go-to Chinese takeout restaurant.

I found them on Yelp while looking for a new sushi spot to try. What drew me in was their low prices. They have lunch specials priced between $7-$11! I was initially hesitant because I didn't want to risk the possibility of eating low quality RAW SEAFOOD.... BUT the positive reviews steered me in the right direction! I called to place my order and it was ready within 10-15 minutes. You can park in front of the restaurant (metered), but there's also plenty of free side street parking and a small lot in the back. The interior is a lot more spacious and modern than I thought. There's a good amount of seating if you want to dine in. The owners are husband and wife - both very friendly. They operate cafeteria style - you order at the front counter and seat yourself. No waiter/table service. I ordered: *Lunch Special Spicy Tuna Combo ($11) - Includes 8 pieces of spicy tuna roll, 4 pieces of salmon sushi, & miso soup. WOW!!! The rolls were ginormous. They gave me a ton of fish! The tuna and salmon were fresh in taste and texture. The miso soup broth was warm and savory. *Eel Roll ($8 for 8 pieces) - This is the most generous portion of eel I've ever had in a sushi roll! And it tasted amazing! Tender, flaky, slightly charred, rich, and sweet. The unagi sauce was the perfect complement. *Seaweed Salad $5 - Includes rehydrated dried seaweed, rice vinegar, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, sugar, grated ginger, and toasted sesame seeds. This salad was so refreshing! The dressing had the right balance of salty and tangy flavors. My only complaint about the rolls was the rice. They used a little too much. It was also mushy and lacked seasoning. Other than that, my belly was very satisfied with the meal. It's not the most impressive or freshest sushi I've ever had... but you get the best value here. Big portions, good quality, and very affordable prices? Count me in. I'll be back!
