Disappointing experience and poor communication from management…read more We visited this restaurant while in Lake Arrowhead and unfortunately left with a bad impression of how management handles situations involving guests with pets. Upon arrival, we informed the host that our party of five included our 10 month old miniature dachshund. We were told pets were welcome and that the wait would be approximately 20-30 minutes. Once seated on the patio, we were asked to keep our puppy on the ground rather than on our laps due to hygiene concerns, which we completely understood and immediately complied with. Our puppy did bark occasionally, and we were actively trying to keep her calm with treats while remaining mindful of those around us. After ordering our second round of drinks, our waitress approached us and informed us that her manager wanted our dog to leave because of her barking. My issue isn't that her barking was addressed, but how the situation was handled. We were never given a warning or an opportunity to correct the behavior before being told she needed to leave. Had someone communicated their concerns beforehand, we would have gladly stepped away or made adjustments. What made the situation even more disappointing was that the manager couldn't come speak to us directly and instead left our waitress to deliver the message. She was incredibly kind and apologetic, even acknowledging that a child repeatedly running and dancing nearby appeared to be getting our puppy excited. She apologized again when we requested our tab and made it clear that this was management's decision. We understand that being dog-friendly doesn't mean allowing disruptive behavior, but basic communication and courtesy go a long way. We've visited plenty of dog-friendly establishments and have never experienced anything like this. Our waitress was wonderful, but management's lack of professionalism and communication left a bad taste in our mouths. Unfortunately, we won't be returning

By the way, it is now a Shell station, not a Valero as shown in an older picture. Chicken is the most important thing to me when I come to a chicken joint. True to its name, KKC chickens are crispy, crunchy, juicy, slightly spicy, and full of flavor. I didn't ask for cajun seasoning but that's what I got. I don't think they have plain or mild chicken even if you ask. Personally I like spicy chicken so it works for me, except I would have preferred even spicier seasoning, but that's what hot sauce is for, I suppose. Since there is no table or bench to sit in/near the gas station so all orders are automatically to go. I wonder if they will put out a table or 2 after the COVID threat is lifted.

The garlic fries are also solid. Customer service is the weak point. The cashiers are usually unfriendly and spend more time fooling around with coworkers than helping customers. I know it's near a college, but that shouldn't be an excuse. This has been a recurring issue on most of my visits. Good food, bad service. Management seriously needs to step it up.
