    Tea flight
    Leinani S.

This is such a unique and wonderful experience and unlike any tea shop I've visited before. Dominion Tea offers individual cups of any tea in their catalog (which is quite large) and you can have them in flights of 4-5 different teas. Many of the teas are very rare and expensive so this is a great way to sample something unique as well as try before you buy. Staff are incredibly knowledgeable about the entire tea making process and will gladly answer questions or walk you through the process step by step. Whatever your knowledge or comfort level they are kind, helpful and accommodating. I initially sampled 4 teas, all black varieties. They were brought out arranged by strength so that you can begin with the more delicate flavors. The timer is set and each cup brews in its own tiny pot and is then cleverly decanted directly into the cup in a practiced maneuver that would probably have me splattering tea halfway across the room if I tried it at home. The result is a perfect cup of tea. I felt like a professional tea taster with my chart of flavor profiles and tasting notes. Please note, this is NOT a tea room, there are no frilly tablecloths or trays of dainty tea sandwiches and pastries. They don't serve any food. Nor is there cream or sugar. The whole object is to sample and learn about the different varieties of tea, unadulterated. In this they excel! I thought I knew something about tea before but this took tea drinking to the level of a wine tasting experience. If you're looking to learn about tea or try something truly rare and unique, this is the place! A true adventure in tea tasting!

    Africa tea tasting

Stopped in for a tea tasting while visiting my mom for the weekend. The shop is in a cute area and finding parking wasn't terrible on a Saturday afternoon. We did the two different regular tastings, three teas in each tasting (one was Asian teas and the other African). The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and walked us through the tea tasting process and all the different teas in detail. I do wish they explained the tasting process before preparing and bringing us the teas, then explaining each tea type while they stepped. It felt rushed trying to explain the process and types for all the teas before some of the teas were done stepping. The short steeps (1-3 minutes) were not very hot by the time we had completed going through the tasting process and tea types we were trying. Overall it was a reasonable price ($5 for each tasting) and a wonderful afternoon getting to try some different teas while learning from a knowledgeable staff!

    My flight, so yummy!

They have very cute decorations, and there is different merchandise for sale in cute little shelves inside. They immediately greeted me when I came in and asked me if I knew what I wanted to order or if I need more time. As it was my first time at this shop, I asked for more time and for recommendations as well based on my taste. They had a lot of recommendations, but I ultimately went with the raspberry rose tea recommendation. I customized the Raspberry Rose Green Tea with light ice and 50% sweetness level. It had a tad bit of a bitter taste, I think the green tea might've steeped in for a bit too long. The raspberry rose flavor was good, though. I think for my next order, I may try sweetness level at 75% because I think it'll just be tastier. They have different toppings, but I have really only been wanting taro balls, and it is not yet popular or available in NoVA, so I opted to not have any. Overall, they delivered solid service and have a pretty good selection of drinks. I was satisfied with my first experience. Since my new favorite tattoo shop is a little over a mile down the road, I might stop by to try their other teas!

Aesthetically, the bubble tea with cotton candy looks beautiful. The only downfall was the fact that the cotton candy started to melt and got all over my hands. The bubble tea itself was tasty though. The decoration is very cute and Instagram friendly, especially the swing. They have random little knick-knacks on sale. I ended up buying a bubble tea keychain. Parking is free and plenty of availability in the parking lot. There is no public bathroom at the location as far as I am aware of.

But the book store/cafe side is such a gem. The custom drinks are pretty good, though the drip coffee was barely warm and a little weak. I love how spacious it is, how cozy and comfy the seating area is, and they have magnetic checkers, tic-tac-toe, and Scrabble boards you can play at separate tables. They also have a sizable play area for kids separate from the main seating area with puzzles, toys, and more. This was perfect since I was visiting little kids and their mom. Nest & Nook is a gift shop of home items on one side, and on the other side they have a counter where you can order a coffee or a cookie. This is also where you'll find some wooden blocks, trucks, and books to keep the littlest readers entertained while the grownups chat! This place is so beautifully styled. All with natural, earth tones. They also have books for sale for kids and grownups. As far as coffee, they have a variety of coffee and tea drinks. I got their special coffee The Phoenix. This is a vanilla latte with foam. I was a bit let down by this coffee drink. It was super watered down, and there wasn't any foam. It came in a tall orange glass, which was lovely. I hope with time they can perfect the recipe of their specialty coffee drinks. We also got a locally made oatmeal cookie to share. This was soft, delicious, moist, fresh and bursting with raisins and flavor. The kids had a great time playing, that they didn't want to leave. And the adults had some uninterrupted time to chat. I would love to stop by Nest & Nook the next time I'm in town.
