The Dominican Restaurant is my family's go-to spot for Dominican food. Tonight we ordered skirt steak, oxtail stew and shrimp in garlic sauce (all with yellow rice), a side or tostones and a side of sweet plantains. My son ordered his steak medium rare but it more on the rare side. When I alerted the waitress, she quickly took it in the kitchen and within 5 mins, his steak was returned and I had a happier kid. This is my favorite spot. It was recently renovated. I've been coming here for years. The food is good. You walk in and can sit anywhere you want. They also have a take out window where you can pick what you want and take it to go. I like to sit down and eat though. The service is quick. I always order the baked chicken and yellow rice. There isn't a kids menu, but they made what my son wanted which was 2 fried eggs over white rice. The older kids shared an order of chicharron de cerdo with white rice and habichuelas (red beans). I just have to say how good the food is here. I usually come here if I want to grab lunch and go or sometimes for dinner. The grilled chicken is so good. I order yellow rice and beans with a side of avocado. Sometimes I get the yuca (cassava) and banana with the onions. They just never disappoint me. I've have dined in here. Staff behind the lunch buffet counter did not greet me but when I walked up I asked if I ordered there to sit down and eat. There's a reason why I gave the food 4 stars, but the service is 2.. nice place to dine. But, here's my problem, and this is not the first time. I'm a regular with this place. If you call in an order before you come, they know who's calling by name. I always get the same churrasco solo steak at $21.50, depending on who you talk to on the phone, THE PRICE WOULD CHANGE EVERY NOW AND THEN. Today it was $34.00. Now, last year we had the same problem about this place changing prices, and today, which just happens to be a Saturday, we're at a crossroads once again. A young guy in there acting as a manager name Ramiro didn't think I had a receipt of how much they always charge me since last year, but I screen shot a receipt from February, and didn't have a problem with this price until now... But since he told me to bring a receipt not knowing I had one, I came there with the receipt, and now that he looked it over and saw that it was from February, now he says the prices has changed since then... Mind you, just a month ago I paid 21.50, I didn't keep the receipt since then, because I always got it for that price. But now the prices went up a whole $12.50 to $34 dollars, and this is just for the steak, not including the meal w/rice etc... This place is a rip-off, and there are other places that will accept your hard earned money for great food. You don't pick and choose how much you wanna charge regular customers who patronize in your establishment and know the customers by phone numbers to jack up the price on the weekend. This would've definitely been $21.50 during the week when you have just opened for business... Although I wrote my initial review of the Dominican Restaurant in 2011, I haven't been there since 2009. It's now 2021. My daughter and son-in-law ordered a feast on our recent visit when they had a family gathering. The food was OUTSTANDING. We ate seafood paella, mofungo with a delicious sauce (which I had never eaten before), plantains, rice, beans, salad, and baked chicken. Everything had such amazing flavor. The paella was out of this world... as was everything, frankly. The only problem was that my stomach filled up LONG BEFORE I was ready to stop eating. It was that kind of delicious. What it meant was that I couldn't wait for dinner the following evening because that meant LEFTOVERS, and the food tasted just as good the second time. We were pleasantly surprised that they do not skimp out on the servings like many places in the area due to higher food costs. Server was very attentive and accommodating for our party of six. PLEASE CHECK YOUR BILL WHEN DINING IN AT THIS RESTAURANT!!!! My fiancé and I enjoy coming to this restaurant from time to time. The food is always good and I find that the service is prompt. The reason for me giving it three stars as opposed to five is for the following three reasons: #1 - It's not until recently we noticed that the restaurant automatically charges a gratuity when you dine in. No matter how small or large your party may be, the gratuity is automatically added. If you don't pay close attention to your bill, you will end up tipping your server twice. I don't like this idea because it feels very deceptive to me. #2 - this place also has a take out line near the dining area. So it can get rather noisy if you are sitting at one of the booths near that line. This is not the type of place where you go for a date night or a girl's night. #3- The parking situation at this restaurant is horrible. There is a small lot in the back, but it aways seems to be packed. So if you are planning on coming here, it's best to park on one of the residential streets nearby. On a side note, this restaurant is cold during the winter time. So you may need to keep your jacket on when eating your dinner. This place is good if you want a solid meal at a good price.
