As I was driving up New York Ave on my way to run a few errands, the unthinkable happened - I lost control of my car. I was going about 15mph and tried to brake to stop but, my car would not stop. My break peddle was on the floor. I ended up driving onto the sidewalk to avoid hitting the car in front of me and still could not stop my car until I shift it to 1st gear. My car finally came to a stop. As my luck would have it, or so I thought, I was on the sidewalk right in front of Dominican Auto Repair shop. I've never patronized this shop and don't know anyone who has. First person I called was my dad to explain to him what happened and he said I should check the brake fluid. I had no idea how to and told him I was in front of a repair shop and he told me to go inside and ask for help. I was of course apprehensive b/c I am a female and didn't want to be taken advantage. Since I was desperate and didn't feel safe driving my car too far, I drove my car in the shop's lot at a snail-like pace and went into the shop's office a couple minutes before 3pm. I asked the guy in the shop if he could check my brake fluid for me b/c my brakes stopped working. He immediately said no and that they were closed. I walked out and talked to my dad and said I would call AAA to have them tow it to my mechanic. I went back in the office to ask if it was okay for me to keep my car here until the tow truck comes. The guy responds saying that he's leaving soon and will close the gate. I explained to him the only reason I'm here is because I lost control of my car and by chance I ended up stopping on the sidewalk in front of his shop. He looked stunned, but said nothing. So I left again. I reversed my car at a snail-like pace again onto the sidewalk because I refused to put my or anyone else's life at risk by driving any further. While I sat in my car on the sidewalk waiting for the tow truck, the same "gentleman" who flatly refused to attend to me drove off in his blue Lexus SUV after locking the gate in front of me and didn't even ask me If I was okay or anything. He pretended as if I wasn't even there even though he was a few inches away from my car (see the picture to see how close) when he locked the gate.
I was alone and clearly shaken up by what just happened to me, but by chance I would have been a paying customer for his business.
