The shop is beautiful. It has an incredible vintage boutique vibe that includes great parking and Instagram worthy artwork on the building itself. Hotel de Ville is appointed with gorgeous fixtures, accessories and lighting that harkens back to more elegant days of boutique shopping. He gave us both free glasses, saying they were gifts. The glasses he offered me were put on order because I needed to go to the doctor to get my eyes checked for my most updated vision script. A week ago, I got a call from someone else at this store telling me I owed them 900 dollars if I wanted the (by then, finished) glasses to be shipped to me. Clearly my friend and I had been pulled into a messy and bizarre situation with an employee who had gone rogue. The owner of the store was immediately sarcastic, confrontational, and condescending about the situation rather than handling it with the humility and clarity you would expect of the owner of a supposedly customer-forward, high-end shop. Apparently the employee had been fired for general misbehavior. She didn't consider that she might be talking to a potential future customer who would be sympathetic to the situation and continue shopping there in the future -- let alone somebody who works in New York media. Which I do, under a pen name, and under this name I also have a following of 200k across social media platforms. Most of my audience consists of fashion-oriented shoppers, stylists, writers, and editors. I have been debating whether to post about my experience to my audience, and I decided to go ahead and do so. Not only was this handled unprofessionally, but now I have to worry about the fact that my personal information -- medical prescription, home address, phone number, and birthday -- are in the hands of someone who is apparently a scammer. Walking into that office/store and the exam room area is like walking from an Optometrist Office in the early 1900's to now a 21st Century dramatically upgraded version. The processes and the technology they have is all 21st century. I have never gone for an annual eye exam and experienced such thoroughness and efficiency. Jesse Lam, the Optometrist, although very young, is super smart and very thorough. The documentation of the exam and results he provided is beyond anything I have ever received in dozens of other annual exams. I cannot recommend higher for you to use this office and its team for your eye exam needs (and no, I am not a stockholder or a relative).
