Chatgpt tells me its most likely a leak and I saw a puddle under the car before I towed it. Ian, the manager, calls me and tells me the transmission needs to be rebuilt and the fluid is fill. Cost:$3900 - $4900. Something felt off because I literally saw the puddle of fluid and I towed to another shop (Sal Transmission on Stillwell). Turns out it was just a leak. Sal sealed it and topped it off. Cost: $235 Dolphin tried to take me for $4500 so this review for anybody considering going here. Beware! read more

I Have a 2017 Nissan Rogue i had this car brand new i put every mile on it. The transmission was shot Ian fixed my transmission and right away when i drove off the lot my car felt like it usually feels. I took my 09 nissan murano to dolphin to get the transmission fixed. They said it needed to be rebuilt. Long story short they fixed the transmission but upon receiving my car back, there were things missing from my car; my personal belongings. I tried calling many times to get my property back or at least figure out how this happened. The store manager kept asking to me call back later. He did that three days in a row. In addition to my missing property the trunk button is missing from my dashboard. There is a hole in the dashboard where the button was previously located. The button for the trunk was there when i gave it to dolphin and gone when i got back the car. I never had such a disastrous experience with a mechanic before. I feel my only option at this point is to file a police report. I will be reposting this on other sites so no one has the same experience. read more

I experienced a very knowledgeable and honest staff. I brought my car in because of transmission problems. I worked with Ian and Ray who gave a thorough diagnostic as well as an actual test drive. From that it was determined that quite a bit of work was needed to get the car back into working order. After the horror that is Repairs On Wheels in Brooklyn (who by the way completely messed up my drivetrain), I am glad to have stopped by Dolphin Transmissions. I had pinging noises coming from the transmission and an issue with shifting gears, so I spoke to Richie on the phone who told me to come in for a FREE diagnostic. After they looked into the car, they mentioned that I needed new motor mounts (Kinda had an idea of that too) and that I needed a new Flexplate + Torque Converter bolts. (Thanks to Repairs On Wheels for damaging them.) Richie gave me a fair quote and was understanding that I got paid at a certain time of the month. So he worked with me and didn't charge any storage fees while we waited! When I picked up the car, she ran like butter and was smoother than a baby's bottom. I think the car ran better and it showed. The icing on the cake was that I noticed a month and a half after...I heard other sounds coming from the car. I naturally assumed that it had something to do with the transmission again, so I stopped by Dolphins and they put the car on the lift again to check it out. After some time, they showed that the car had a lot of transmission fluid leak out and the car was swimming in it. (Yikes!) I figured that this was going to cost an arm and a leg to fix and Richie said he would look into it. After some more time, they took the car off the lift and then Richie took me for a test drive on the car. The car was running great again after that. I asked him what happened and he mentioned that one of the coolant lines for the transmission was not in place and it was leaking fluid! Also that I was at least 3-4 quarts low of transmission fluid! I was really lucky my transmission did not die. To top it off, they fixed it for FREE! The fact that they were so willing to help me + was flexible really saved me and I will be going to Dolphins in the future for my transmission. I will recommend anyone here. Richie and Ray are very straightforward, honest and funny guys so all in all makes it a great shop to go to. read more

My 2005 Land Rover LR3 was on its last legs, barely able to shift out of most of the gears. I had brought it to another shop previously, spent $1000 on a "repair", which involved refilling the transmission fluid, which costs hundreds per quart. They told me it was "saved", but less than a month later it was toasted again! All signs pointed to a shot transmission. I have a warranty that was purchased when I bought the car, and I brought it into Dolphin, and sure enough they were able to pull up the codes for the transmission fault, get the warranty company on the phone, and start the work immediately. It took about a week to fully service the vehicle, because of the warranty needing confirmation of specific items needing to be addressed, but at the end the transmission was fixed, they argued for additional money from the warranty company, and everything has been smooth since then! I highly recommend them to anyone! The prices are fair, and the work is solid. You can tell they are experts not only because they only do transmission, but because of the knowledge of their staff. read more

I came in for a transmission issue. They told me that I needed a new tranny and charged $4500(later found to be double what a single unit) and it was only a Chevy Malibu. It also took a full month to finish the change.After nine months the Tranny started back up with issues. When I returned I was told they'll check the car. 2 weeks past and my gps reader shows my car had been parked the entire two weeks around the corner. When I asked, I was given excuses to false problems. For example, corrosion, it's very diffivult we've been working all week, and of course "I found something else that may increase the price". Before repairs I was already having to pay an extra $400 . Finally, I got my car back two month in total. 6 months after, the same issue came up but this time I was in formed that the warranty no longer covers the transmission and that I have to purchase. The reviews look good on here but I suggest checking on places and sites because you will get hustled. read more

As a woman who knows absolutely nothing about cars, I was extremely iffy about walking into this shop after my check engine light came on. Ian quoted me at $2,500-3000 for the repair of my transmission. After he asked me how many miles was on my vehicle I mentioned to him that it was only about 47,000 miles, he recommended that I should call Nissan and question them about any warranties that the vehicle may have. After driving the car for almost two years the transmission is still running strong. However I found out that they did not in fact rebuild the transmission in their own place but in fact bought it from a supplier like they have claimed. The evidence for this is due to: Usually it takes about a week to repair the transmission but they fixed it in about 3 days They could not and did not tell me what was wrong with the internals of the transmission. If somebody worked on the transmission in their shop they would have been able to tell me what caused it to fail. The problem with this is I do not know if they bought a used transmission on EBAY or actually got a transmission from a reputable re manufacturing facility. because of their lies i must reduce my rating count to 2.5. because the transmission that they BOUGHT seems to be working fine. read more

I have an Acura mdx whose tranny was crapping on me. I searched online for good reputable tranny places and although there were many, only a few had good reviews, thus my decision in choosing Dolphin. I base all of my purchasing and services decisions on reviews so by logic I would do the same in this case. I dealt mostly with Ray and from the start the dude was awesome over the phone. I was even concerned that he was too down to earth. After he stated that they do free diagnostics, I went straight to the shop and met Ray in person. He was very professional and very informative. Took my car right in, performed a diagnostic, told me what was wrong and said that my tranny definitely needed to be repaired. He also stated that my torque converter might be shot but that he wouldn't know until they performed a different test. Anyway, skipping ahead, he gave me a quote for repair costs and the cost was acceptable to me. But I told him that I will like to do the repair but couldn't that same day. since I needed the car (the car was half working). At which he said that he would get me a rental from the local Enterprise at no cost to me. Just awesome! Isn't this the best customer service or what I was thinking. My wife who was with me thought the same. Of course I agreed to do the repair. He promised that it would be ready by 3pm the next day. Fast forward and the car was done by 2:45pm on the day promised. The experience was painless and I for sure recommend these guys. About me: I am a technician and do all sorts of repairs. I am extremely handy. I am former military and one of the traits I took away was adaptability. So I am not just a nobody who decided to give these guys 5 stars. They deserve and credit must be given where it is due. Complaints about Dolphin: I wished they let more people know about them. I asked them how come they don't promote themselves more. I feel like a lot of people get gipped everyday by car mechanics and people should know about places like Dolphin since they do provide excellent service. My 2013 BMW was over warranty when all of a sudden my transfer case and axles abruptly and fatally failed. I limped into my dealer and got sticker shock of a lifetime. I called Dolphin and they propmtly picked my car up from the dealer on a flatbed. They quickly assessed the damage and necessary repairs. I called Dolphin Transmissions this morning fearing the worst, that my car's transmission had imploded. After walking through the symptoms with me, Richie suggested that it sounded like a broken axle and that I should have my local shop take a look. He was very kind to spend time on the phone with me despite the fact that he probably didn't stand to make any money. He was right, the axle had snapped in half! And it was a hell of a lot cheaper to fix than the tranny. In addition, while I was paying, every car I heard about had something additional that in needed. While I know that many times, cars don't just have one issue, I do not believe that every car does. We are a new company not rich company, so i said screw this I'm never going to find anyone that could fix this car correct, and just when I thought junking the car was best a friend said speak with them so i did. They gave me a price quote 4times cheaper which had me thinking there's no way this is going to be good job so i went through with it.. This place is bad. When you get there it looks nice and clean they talk the talk like they know what they are doing. Finally when they put the transmission in I still had problems on my Chevrolet. I went back under the warranty because it was slamming into reverse but they could not reproduce it. When the pan gasket went while still under warranty Richie (the manager) made me pay him $65 for doing a drain and fill (which I didn't need since the transmission had on it less than 2000 miles since it was installed but he wanted to recoup the cost of the gasket). I kept on complaining about the slamming into reverse but the Bullshitted me all the way till my 1 year warranty ended. A year after the warranty ended my transmission blew up (literally the case exploded) I had it towed to them but ray the boss told me a rebuild was 1500, when I told him it was his transmission he told me he doesn't care since the warranty ended. So I just dumped the car. Maybe I am wrong but I think a transmission should last more than 2 years and 4000 miles. I personally think all this rebuild places are junk. Am writing this review while still waiting to take my car back to the establishment for the third time for the same job. Took my 2010 infinity FX 35 there to have the Fuel pump fix they end up diagnosing my car with something else which I paid to be fixed. the fuel pump was replaced but when I pick my car up immediately I knew it still was not functioning which I brought to Ray and Ian attention. I brought the car back few weeks later after the check engine light came on, I took it back for another diagnosis which came back that the fuel pump they put was defective. Ian agreed to replace the pump since I already paid for it but the next day I got a call stating the dealer said nothing is wrong with the pump and it's brand new . They now decide I need to fix the secondary censor first then if that don't work I will have to fix the Amplifier. Fix the second censor but still having the same problem and now am waiting to take it back to fix the amplifier. Ray even agreed at this point we guessing with this process, I want to fix the amplifier with them and if am still having the same issue they will have to replace the pump which they should have done in the first place. Boy... let me tell you about these wonderful guys! I bought a 2007 Mazda 3 with 89K miles, usually at that mileage, there isn't much to worry about. WRONG. The very next day the check engine light came on. The car was stuck in 3rd gear, so I figured something tranny related was up. Took it to AutoZone, and I got a code for a bad shift solenoid. I called SCAMCO, formally known as AAMCO, and they told me $50 for a diagnosis. I went. I get there and they do it and say they'll need to do further diagnosing for $250, I agreed. I'm at work, and the manager calls to tell me, they'll need to take the transmission apart to find the root of the problem for $800. That I couldn't agree to. I took the car to Mazda and they agreed it was the solenoid but they replace transmissions not parts. At that point, I , speak to Richie, and he tells me to come down, they'll look at it for FREE! They too confirmed the issue, fixed it, and the car runs like a champ. Thank you guys!!! read more

I've had a transmission rebuilt there April 2016. It took them about 5-6 days to repair. I was very happy with the service until November 2016 when the transmission started slipping on my way to physical therapy and upon leaving physical therapy the tranny failed altogether. Luckily i still had my one year warranty and kept my receipt handy in the glove box. They picked up my car from my mechanic on archer avenue the next day. Unfortunately it took nearly a month for them to return the car. I'm sure they were in no hurry to fix a transmission for free although it's their warranty and reputation on the line. There were all kinds of excuses and phone tag went on for the 3 plus weeks. They couldn't find a replacement sensor, torque converter, etc...It was the second transmission I've had done there but the first time was my wife's car and 3 days later she was in a wreck that totaled the car so we were unable to say if they've done a good job the first time or not. I'm just saying what happened in my experience and would not recommend this shop I showed up there unannounced 3-4 times just to show them they can't just tell me whatever they want on the phone and take as long as they want because they already have my money and the job they did failed within a year. It was not easy to get there on public transportation because I lived in Far Rockaway. Actually I remember for the first 2 weeks my car was just sitting outside the entire time. My license plate was SXM NA and my car was a 2008 Acura TL so Dolphin can trace their steps and see where they went wrong and can't dispute my claims. read more
