Honestly, it was probably not the best move on our part to go try to get Mexican food in Berlin at a place with map of the Dolores neighborhood inside, when we're from SF. It was fine, it was really nice to get some spicy salsa and have something different, but overall it didn't hit the spot. The chicken was very dry and the burritos were very reminiscent of Chipotle, probably one of the more disappointing meals. Its a very cool looking place, and its super popular, so be prepared to wait a bit. read more

Full disclosure: this review is probably a bit unfair because I work precisely 5 blocks from the real Dolores Park in the Mission District of San Francisco. I've eaten my way through practically every taqueria in a 1 mile radius here. When I heard the rave reviews about Dolores, of course we had to go! The SF kitsch was definitely cool, but unfortunately, the burritos themselves would lose a match up with the "worst" burrito you can get in SF. It's probably down to lack of competition-- SF burrito joints sometimes go head to head with 5 other taquerias on the same BLOCK, so there is no option not to knock your socks off. The guac is on point, as is burrito size, but the fillings were really lackluster. I felt like a monster every time a Berliner found I was from CA and raved about Dolores-- I tried to let 'em down easy! Next time I'm in Berlin, I'll stick with a steady diet of doner kebabs, which is the street food Berliners get oh so very, very right. And if you're ever in SF, hit up the Mission and find out what I mean! read more

Whenever I spend any extended time in Berlin I begin to miss burritos. Specifically the San Francisco style Burritos where I live. When that happens I come to Dolores and place a very careful order. I say "careful" because they have a lot of Germanized ingredients that should be avoided. Specifically Update: just not as good as it was in the past unfortunately. As a Californian living in Europe, finding a great burrito is hard to come by so when some friends and I heard about Dolores on a recent trip to Berlin, we had to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all. This place is pretty typical to any fast food burrito place in the States (think Chipotle without the walk down counter) and almost as close to a California burrito as I've stumbled across. You can order any meat you want and then any fillings (choice of beans, rice, salsa, sour cream, guac). If your an expat, or want to try a burrito, this place will definitely fill the void. I know I'll go here whenever I'm in Berlin. My friends and I lived in San Francisco before we moved to Europe and it wasn't until we were halfway through our burritos and realized that this place is named after Dolores park. Needless to say, either the burritos were so good we didn't notice, or we are just ridiculous, but it made us feel more attached after! read more

This place was a godsend for two americans who spoke no german whatsoever - and myself being a vegetarian. I was having hard times eating in Berlin and we finally stumbled onto Dolores and I think I grinned the entire time I was inside the joint. Not only were there vegetarian options (and vegan) but you can call your own style as well. Anyway, point is this was the best food I ate in Berlin. And I don't care that it's an American Mexican meal or whatever. It's what I needed. I just wish they had more of these around here, Chipotle is so not authentic. This place is. This may have been the best burrito I've ever had. And in Berlin? I was so impressed. I had a pretty classic lime chicken burrito bowl, but everything was just spot on. The tortilla chips were perfect, the guacomole was great, the black beans.... I could go on. Far better than Chipotle and other spin offs I've been to. We were hoping for a little piece of home here. We got it, but mostly from the giant floor-to-ceiling map of the Mission District in SF posted on the walls of the dining area. The burritos here weren't too bad, but if you rep' the name you gotta' have da game! My wife and I both optioned for the Naughty Pork. We weren't feeling especially nice that day, but we normally are! Honestly, most of the ingredients were really good and I really liked the options here (you pretty much have at least two options for every major burrito component). The carnitas fell short in the burritos, however, as they were just too dry and a little bit lacking in the flavor department. Still, one of the better burritos we've had since moving to Germany and it will definitely be a spot that we return to on any subsequent Berlin visits, but we will likely forgo the carnitas nächstes Mal. read more

I had really high hopes for Dolores. Alas, the quest for a great burrito in Germany continues. Mr. hubby and I both ordered the carnitas burrito. The tortilla was warmed like it was steamed, yay! The fillings were not so bad. I think it was the meat that wasn't quite right. It was a bit on the dry side. It is still the best burrito I've had in Germany. I grew up in the Mission District in San Francisco. This is the best burrito that I've had in Europe, but that's not saying THAT much. The burritos here are the equivalent of going to a "Chiptole" chain in the United States. It's pretty good, but its not the greasy taco truck or authentic tacqueria that you would find in the Mission. It's like run of the mill healthy baja burrito. I go here whenever I miss home. I am really glad that they even serve Anchor Steam beer(my favorite!). Sometimes, I just wish the food was greasier and dirtier, like the Mission itself. I mean, the name is Dolores after all. 3...I'll give it 3 stars. The place is fun and hip and filled with Amis. They have Anchor Steam Beer, a plus. The food is pretty good. Peanut sauce?!? Never seen that as an option - said the 3rd generation Californian. The burritos are more a San Diego style than San Francisco, larger diameter, without a steamed tortilla and not wrapped in aluminum (that's aluminium, for you Brits), foil. The habanero and peanut salsas have a nice kick. But the worst thing about Dolores is that they have British flags to indicate English on the menu. I thought Dolores was a gourmet CALIFORNIA burrito shop. Why is there a British flag? Is it a Cardiff by the Sea burrito shop? Or Nottingham burrito shop? London?!? No, the sign says CALIFORNIAN. Not bad, but not great either. I have tried the Dolores Chicken quesadilla, and while it definitely was good, it was still quite bland compared to what one would expect. Maybe I wasn't lucky (the place was quite crowded) or there were simply other better options. But anyway, I will be coming back here as it does seem like there is so much worth trying, but there is still better elsewhere. On the plus side, the place is VERY vegan friendly. After a semester studying in icy Stockholm, I was in dire need of some serious heat and a proper bloody burrito (seriously Stockholm, l2 mexican food). Waiting for me on my way back to Sydney like a warm comforting hug, or the lingering farewell kiss of a lover, was this incredible burrito joint just off Alexanderplatz. In a city of amazing cheap takeaway food, Dolores stood out. I ate there every second day for a week, sacrificing trendier street food like Mamo Falafel in order to plunge burrito after burrito into my insatiable maw. Dolores' burritos exemplified the brilliant fusion of size, structure and flavour. The tofu was juicy and flavourful, not just filler stuffed in to pad out a veggie burrito. I tried each of the salsas and rices and found that super hot and zippy was the best way to go. Real mexican rice and delicious black beans make for a hearty meal, and the freshness of the vegetables balanced the cheese and sour cream perfectly. The burritos never fell apart and always went down a treat with beers. Sometimes I had to wait for a table, but did I mind? Of course not. The burritos were incredible. The service was pretty rude, but I would be too if I had to feed demanding tourists like myself all day. read more

I always think its a bit unfair for west coast Americans to write reviews of foreign Mexican restaurants, but here I am. Continuing my quest for decent European Mexican, I land in Berlin to try Dolores, which I had heard good things about. First things first, this place was packed. I hate crowds, so this place was a bit stressful for me. There are so many people waiting in line and standing around to poach a table that its not really the most relaxing experience. Perhaps avoid lunch time? Anyway, after ordering and staring at people for 10 minutes waiting for a table, we finally got to it. First things first, the tortilla chips should be commended. Making your own fresh chips gets you a big thumbs up. Thumbs down for the tiny side of guacamole. Enough for 5 chips, then youre sad. Next, thumbs up for fresh, steamed burrito tortillas. Finally, a place that has figured out that steaming the tortilla before you fill it is key. The rest was a bit rough. I ordered the chicken burrito and the chicken was marinated in something strange. I couldnt put my finger on it, but it was not super enjoyable. Man had the pork burrito and wasnt blown away. The good news is that it is totally decent and will put to bed your Mexican craving. The burrito portions are also huge, so you arent going to go hungry. read more

If you're really hungry and want an American-sized burrito, this is the place to go. It reminds me of a cool, hip Chipotle from the States. They have burritos, salads and burrito bowls with all the usual fixings. The prices are really reasonable and the food is very flavorful. They also have freshly squeezed fruit and veggie juices. They offer great vegetarian options too. I was a little put-off by the cold reception of the girl behind the counter and the fact that the cook was eating bits of food while making orders, but service was fast and accurate. (I took one star away because I got a pretty bad stomach ache after I ate the burrito and subsequently got sick that night. Mexican food in Berlin!!! I was surprised at how good this place was! I got the Burrito Bowl, which is basically a burrito without the tortilla and it's in a bowl. The carnitas was flavorful and juicy, the roasted corn salsa and fajita vegetables were BOMB! It also came with some tortilla chips on the top to give it some crunch. It was a BIG portion for the price and I think it's def worth it for the price... I would even say I enjoyed this more than the chipotle burrito bowls... read more

Burrito tested and approved by an American! And you could tell this place has some creds when there is a long line (mostly of hipsters) to order. It took about 20 minutes from line to getting my food, and the wait was worth it. Dolores deviates from being an authentic Mexican burrito place given that they have a LOT of vegan-friendly options, but I applaud them for doing this. I'm no vegan, but their "green rice" (basmati rice made green from fresh cilantro and lime juice) was better than most rice that I've had in a burrito. I love that they have various types of sauces (i.e. tomato salsa, smoky peanut salsa, chipotle mayo, etc) and meats (and not just 1 but 2 types of vegan soy meats!) for you to try with your burrito. I had an adobo beef burrito with the aforementioned green rice, black beans, cheese, and extra guacamole. It was a HUGE burrito that I could have split into 2 meals, and it only costed 7 EUR. And with a homemade ginger lemonade to go with my meals, I was one happy girl! Well someone might be a little observed with San Francisco. It's borderline creepy when you walk into Dolores. Having lived in SF, I was a little startled; sure the restaurant is named after an area in SF but I was not expecting this. The restaurant is lined with a map of SF over several walls. The ambiance of the place can only be described as totally hipster serving only to bolster the SF like experience. Add a long queue to the place and they'll have it completely down I've been in Germany just over 5 months now and the struggle to find a burrito as those I had whilst in SF has been well a struggle. I got a naughty pork burrito. Sadly yet again this does come short of the burrito I grew accustomed to. However definitely one of the best I've had thus far in Germany; for one they got the tortilla right but it just didn't feel complete. It may also be catering for the german palette too I suppose. What really stood out though was the pork in that burrito. I haven't had anything like it! I think its pulled pork that is made in some delicious sauce. I honestly could eat that pork all on its own. They have a pretty wide menu and you can create your own burrito, very quick service and nice staff. read more

Despite what all my fellow Americans, the burritos here are pretty good. Of course anyone expecting to find the unmatchable quality of a California burrito stand will be disappointed, but by Berlin standards this place is great. For around 5€ you can get a huge American-sized burrito (vegetarian, chicken, beef and pork) with fresh guacomole and sour cream. One of the most filling quick meals you can get in Mitte. Don't mean to be nitpicky, but the employees at Dolores have a tendency to crank up the music really loud so that you kind of have to raise your voice to make your order. Kind of annoying, but doesn't reflect on the good quality of the food. read more

The burritos at Dolores were okay but didn't even match to the same flavor and freshness of a Chipotle burritos. The peanut salsa did have a nice smokey kick.
