Berlin has only a few casual Mexican-inspired restaurants and Chupenga has a handful of locations. The restaurant is trying for the Chipotle-style of menu, but with more limited vegetarian options. The guacamole and salsa was delicious but overall it was a mediocre meal. The food is flavorless and bland, only improved with hot sauce. It is not a great example of Mexican cuisine but it is good enough considering it is located in Berlin. read more

We just arrived in Berlin and was looking for something to eat. It was right around the corner from our hotel and I love Mexican food. I had the Carnitas Burrito and my wife had the Barbacoa Naked Burrito. The flavors were good. I thought that the Carnitas flavor was ok. My wife really liked her Barbacoa. The process is very fast and the people were nice. It seemed that it was a pretty popular place. I like the fact that you get to pick all of he ingredients that you want. What can I say... I love this place! Really yummy fresh Mexican food made in front of you. They have a great and fast service and you can choose what you would like to have in your burrito or taco. You can choose from rice, quinoa, pico de gallo, beans, lentils, lettuce, cheese, sour cream salsa verde, salsa roja and more. Good selection of salads for vegetarians. Must try the Guacamole, hand smashed with cilantro and lime, so delish! There is also a good choice of softdrinks an beers; I suggest to try their home made free refill aguas frescas. Prices are really very moderate considering the high quality food you get. And on top? The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly, professional, genuinely smiling and easy-going, the music is plesant and not loud so that you can sit down and relax. Would definetely return there on my next trip to Berlin. read more

Chupenga is Stupenga....which should correlate with Stupendous. Thoroughly satisfying healthy hispanic 'comida' served succinctly with a smile. Pulled marinated Pork seasoned properly and served with a myriad of extras is diverse and delectable. Reminiscent of a certain US chain serving similar fare, but with a higher standard and 2 for 1 Margaritas on Thursday. So you know when you will see me there. Salud!! read more

I was really disappointed by Chupenga, especially after reading all the good reviews. I was expecting fresh, exciting Mexican food, but what I ended up with was a very bland and poorly wrapped burrito that fell apart instantly. The only positive was the pork was nice and tender, but everything else just seemed a little too under seasoned and a little too soggy. Not to mention it was pretty pricey compared to some of the other Mexican spots in the city that offer much more flavorful meals. You can do fresh, healthy Mexican without losing out on taste, but that is not what happened here. read more

I came here because of the good reviews, but unfortunately I was quite disappointed. I got the naked burrito with chicken, rice, beans, corn, lettuce, and salsa. The only thing that made the bowl even remotely appetizing was the hot sauce from a bottle that I poured onto it. The chicken was stringy and under-seasoned. The rice was soggy and without any kind of flavor - no cilantro, no lime, no spices. The beans tasted like they had been rehydrated and mushed together. There were no vegetables other than lettuce. The restaurant also seemed to be woefully understocked - several ingredients (like the guacamole) were out, and they made no effort to make more. It seemed like bad planning, as dinner time was just getting started. I find that burritos are hard to make taste bad, since the basic ingredients are all quite tasty. However, this came as close as possible to tasting bad. Would not recommend. Dolores is much better. read more

Good solid burrito! I live in San Francisco and have strong opinions on burritos. Chupenga is pretty good. It's not gonna compete with the best places in the Mission but it's certainly pretty solid, at least Chipotle-level competence in execution. Bonus points for having agua fresca, and bottles of Mexican hot sauce for your use. And really excellent guacamole, surprisingly enough. The place is also comfortable and convenient. read more

A place to get delicious burritos is exactly what we needed in Mitte. In fact, I was just telling this to one of my colleagues the other day, highlighting that there is only so much 'knusprige Ente' (the General Tso's of Germany) one can take. The guacamole was delicious, fresh and bright green. I had a Barbacoa burrito and the ingredients were the right amounts, not too rice / bean heavy, and the meat was just the right texture, not to watery, not too dry. The hot sauce was actually hot and tasty. The burrito tortilla was soft, yet firm enough to not fall apart, I ate the whole thing with minimal 'leakage'. The Agua de Jamaica was a refreshing accompaniment, and not too sweet. The staff was helpful and accommodating, and the decor atmosphere was tasteful. Think of it as Chipotle, but much, much better. I look forward to being a frequent customer. read more

I like to get my burritos from this place, and better to eat there as this is one of the few places in Berlin where you pay a drink (agua fresca) and you can get a refill. And the aguas are good. The tacos are however to thin that the tortilla breaks easily and you won't be able to eat it with your hands.. so pick a fork or stay with burritos. read more

This is hands down the best burrito place I have been to in years. I basically ended up eating several times a week since they opened. The food is fresh and spicy. I love their burritos! The meat is tender and of good quality, the beans are excellent (and I must know, I am from Brazil), and the salsas are great. And their guacamole is to die for. Also try the aguas frescas. I love the one with fresh lime and it is free refill. It's just a brilliant new addition to the Berlin landscape. Loving it! read more

We stumbled across this place and decided to check it out after some good reviews on Yelp. Well, what can I say? If you're looking for some authentic Mexican burritos, this place has a vegan one with quinoa, lentils and some kind of vinaigrette dressing. So take from that what you will. I decided to build my own and it wasn't much better. The grilled veggies are vinegary and the poor girl serving me had apparently never seen a tortilla before, let alone knew how to wrap a burrito. It was an exercise in futility trying to eat it with my hands so I gave up and dumped it into a bowl. Add that to the 'Apple Store' decor inside and you're left with a pretty disappointing experience. It's a shame because we really wanted to like this place, and with a few changes they could be knocking it out of the park, but they're trying too hard to do some kind of modern take on burritos and it isn't working.
