It's alright. Had three types of tacos to try out, carnitas, asada and.... cant remember without looking at the menu. Anyway, food is good but the wholistic approach is not quite there. The tortillas break apart easily from the meat and toppings. Salsa is a plus, its actually spicy. Recommend this establishment if able to make it to this neighborhood and enjoy.

Santa Maria has tasty, semi-authentic Mexican food at a good price. Being from America, I have had quite a lot of Mexican food and wasn't expecting to find it in Berlin. The restaurant is rather small and cramped but we went on a Friday night when it was very crowded. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table but the bartender let us put our name on a list while we went across the street for beers. The menu has a good mix of more-authentic and less-authentic Mexican options. Let's face it: the restaurant is in Berlin and so needs to cater to German preferences. Consequently, most entrees come with creme fraiche instead of sour cream, pickled veggies instead of salad, and salsas are mild (but tasty). Although I missed the endless baskets of free tortilla chips that you find at every Mexican restaurant in America, I was happy to not be full before my meal came! They offer a good number of vegetarian & vegan options for those who eat that way. :) I ordered the Tostadas de Calabaza, which are not very Mexican but were very delicious! They come topped with large chunks of pumpkin, beans & creme fraiche. I decided to go with this entree because it was more 'German' inspired and I thought it would make an interesting combo. The pumpkin was soft, warm & sweet and paired very nicely with the chillies and beans! It came with onions and pickled veggies (not sure what it was, maybe more onion?). My husband had the Puerco Especial burrito - he really enjoyed it and the bites I tried were great. The burritos are quite large and definitely need to be eaten with a knife & fork! It was filled with pork, guac, cheese & chipotle cream. The service was fine - the waitresses were busy but attentive enough. It seemed like they primarily spoke English but also some German and Spanish. The prices for our entrees were great! Each was about 7 or 9 euros but it could get more expensive if you add sides & fillings. They charge separately for guacamole, rice, pico de gallo, creme fraiche and cheese if it is not already included in your dish. We had a very good meal and good experience at Santa Maria and will definitely go back for more!

Stopped in for a quick bite this evening. Originally thought it was Tuesday so we were all set for 1€ tacos. Alas no, it's only Monday silly! Instead had some chicken tacos and shared a plate of tortilla chips with guacamole. Waiting staff very friendly. Beer was excellent. Kindl is a really nice light beer which seems to be on offer most places. Krusovice Hell is very similar to Staropramen red. Chicken tacos were piled high with a generous portion of chicken and oozing with lovely tangy sauce. Tortilla chips very fresh with an audible crunch. Guacamole tasted freshly made with a nice sprinkling of diced fresh tomato on top. Would definitely recommend for a quick snack when passing through the area

Until today, I'd only ever been to Maria Bonita and of course considered it the finest Mexican eats in Berlin. Boy was I wrong. Santa Maria is a lot bigger than its little cousin in Prenzlauer Berg, and I think its menu is a shade ahead as well. While I love me some Carnitas tacos, the Picadillo burrito is a thing of absolute beauty. Gigantic portions, plenty of flavor and just enough spice to keep things interesting. The chips are also different here, and in my mind, superior. The tomatillo verde salsa is perfect, and the chips are crispy and salty and satisfying.

Great Mexican food in Berlin. The guacamole was good but I thought the tortilla chips were a little bit too salted. The puerco especial burrito was tasty although not really authentic Mexican. It's a huge burrito though, can really fill you up. The habanero sauce is very tasty if you can handle a little bit of heat.

Summer 2013 Total Time in Berlin: five weeks. Attendance at Taco Tuesdays: two out of two weeks. Why? It's simple. The food is: + Inexpensive, but not too cheap; + Filling, but not too heavy; + Tasty, but not too spicy. However: - The service can be slow + rude; - The wait for a table can be obnoxiously long; - The counters/table tops can be a bit dirty. I ate with a group each time, and I think that's the way to spend a meal here. The chips are delicious, so I've only ordered dishes that compliment them: - Queso Fundido (no pork): simply, cheese/etc. in a warm pot with chips. Yum. - Guacamole: mild -- a bit too nondescript! -- but smooth and delightfully comforting. We will continue our attendance record, I think. It's simple *and* savory!

Great experience! This place is packed, maybe you will have to wait to get a table but its totally worth it! Great atmosphere and their margarita is a kiskass!!!!

28 degrees, sun in the city and the evening off - what else to do than gather your gals and hid Santa Maria for cocktails, Mexican food and people watching along Oranienstrasse ! We met early enough so we were lucky to get outdoor seats for the 6 of us as within minutes the entire place was jammed! We ordered a mix of nachos with guaca and the totopos with tasty black beans and cheese! Those starters were washed down with a refreshing hibiscus mint margaritas and some coronas for my friends before moving on to our mains! For mains we ordered a few different main items as we couldn't decide and wanted to try them all, our faves of them were the veggie tacos and the one with chicken. Two of my friends shared burritos and quesadillas; sadly I couldn't try them as those weren't GF. However Santa Maria is amazing for GF options as most or their dishes are GF, lots of Veggie and vegan option and the waitress was really good by suggesting GF items of the menu !

Lunch menu deal 10 € for soup/salad and a entree! Upgrade with a margarita!!

They brought out the tasty shots in the beginning and those were the highlight...so many amazing flavors in them. And they brought out a pineapple juice for our son which was cool too. We were given the "sharing is caring" spiel and then eventually ordered our meals, plus guacamole and chips for an appetizer. Then the food started coming out (slowly), the first surprise being that the portions were super small. Like my husband ordered the "quesadilla" and it came out as two mini taco-sized things. But the ingredients were nice (fig and cheese) and he thought they were OK, though by no means authentic. Next came my friend's fish dish. When a server stopped by to check in later and asked how the food was, I mentioned I'd like my tacos, as I'd been waiting a while. He then asked me with surprise if I hadn't heard the server's "sharing is caring" speech and explained that the food comes out one by one. I told him that's fine but that I'm vegan, so I can't really eat the food my omnivore and vegetarian dining companions ordered. Eventually my food came out and it was nice, but not amazing, qhich seems to be a common theme here. I also had two margaritas which were tasty but I couldn't even taste the alcohol. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I really liked all the smokey flavors in the drinks and food though. The hot sauces were pretty bland by the way, though the "really spicy" one had a nice kick (but was not all that hot to be honest). My companions ordered the two desserts to share (nothing vegan, so I couldn't have them) and they both enjoyed them quite a bit. Overall, I think the food is interesting and fun, but the portion sizes are really small compared to the price. For what you get, it's definitely overpriced, as it's not a fine dining experience. Additionally, the concept of sharing food should be optional because, let's face it, not only do people have different food restrictions, but sometimes people don't want to share their food or eat something they're not in the mood for. I still had a great time because I was in good company, but I would probably not come back here again unless something changed.

As I was getting up after finishing my meal the first time I went there, she also barked at me, "Hey you, clean your dishes!!" to let me know that I should collect my dishes and deposit them by the bar where you order. I remember feeling confused and wondering what I had done to earn her scorn. I also watched her chew people out who had a snippy tone when they placed their orders. She was at times a drill sergeant of a waitress.... but by being a relaxed and friendly person, it was not hard to earn her trust and land on her good side. And it was worth it to do so because she made the best damn margaritas in Kreuzberg. About six months ago she moved to Madrid I believe and sadly Ta Cabron hasn't been quite the same since. The enchiladas verdes are still fine but somehow different, The chicken seems different, something subtle has changed, and just isn't what it used to be. And don't get me started on the margaritas... they still serve them, and they are fine, but they are just plain old margaritas now. They don't have that magic. That pizzazz. These days, I don't really visit Ta Cabron much. Only once in a while to see if things might have turned around. I remember fondly now though how it was towards the end. She'd spot me and give me a smile and I'd get to the head of the line and she'd chat a little -- as the bustling throng of hungry patrons waited eagerly behind me in line, desperate to place their order -- and she would ask me how my day was. If people got too impatient or fidgety while she was telling me about what was new with her she'd bark a firm command at them them to chill - and then, light a light switch - finish whatever she was saying to me in a friendly tone. She was sort of Basil Fawlty meets the Soup Nazi, but with the frame and accent of a fiery Latina. I miss her.

And if the döner joints on every corner didn't tip me off, the fact that the burrito I got at Taquería Ta'Cabrón looked more like a döner or some sad wrap with a dollop of salsa on it definitely did. Maybe the quesadillas or margaritas are passable, but my burrito was so pathetically wrapped that I've sworn off a return visit. In other words, everyone knows that a burrito's ingredients should at least be completely enclosed inside the tortilla... or whatever inauthentic tortilla substitute you end up using. C'mon, Ta'Cabrón. No partial credit. Because of the poor construction, the ingredients were poorly distributed throughout the entire burrito and each bite was a bland surprise. At €7.20, it's a bit pricier than a burrito at Dolores, but I'd go to Dolores over Ta'Cabrón any day.

Usually, especially Before Chipotle, local takes were fun & often strange - like the gouda & curried chicken burrito in Holland, 1996. But the Germans ... they don't mess around. 2018 I was astonished accidently finding "SF Burrito Company" in Köln. My brain blew a fuse. And the burritos were absolutely outstanding in every possible way. Went there dozens or times. Took my first born there, who was raised on Bay Area burritos. Wow! Then I learned SF taquerias were all over Deutschland. Maybe I should relocate ... Sadly, SF Burrito Co in Köln did not survive Covid. But cologne has other taquerias making magnificent burritos (to be reviewed later). I'd spotted Berlin's Dolores on previous trips but had not tried for a variety of reasons. Enter 2024 and in town with my youngest son (also raised on burritos). I was so excited to try Dolores. But truly saddened by the food experience. I grade burritos on a local curve. And by German standard, Dolores gets 3 stars max. It's basically blander than Chipotle. I'm so let down by the experience, I can't even describe it. I'll start either the Quesadilla as my burrito PTSD is just too strong to reflect on it. The chicken quesadilla was awful. Chicken and tortilla texture felt as if they were both prepared in a microwave. Rubbery chicken that was extremely dry inside. Zero crispness to the tortilla. Next to no cheese. And way too much cilantro on the chicken. And a side of mushy pico de gallo. I'm almost crying in shame reflecting on what a quesadilla from the Mission is compared to this. Ugh. The burrito. Got their house Pork special. Said it was Carnitas. For some reason, it took over 15 minutes to get to us - not a problem but bizarre as they had a burrito assembly line running. Anyway, it was very flabby in construction. No tension in the tortilla to hold it together. And the tortilla was mushy. Not properly steamed or crisped on the grill. The pork was very nice. A highly spiced pulled pork. Definitely not anything like carnitas. I do not believe it was fried or braised. A very low proportion of meat to rice. And the rice ... way too much Cilantro. Texture OK. But soapy cilantro from the rice practically overpowered the pork. Beans - refried which was a nice surprise. They were pretty OK . No cheese. A tiny amount of sour cream. Had a hot salsa in it. But was hardly noticeable and not even hot. Basically, a burrito that was a so-so copy of Qdoba or Chipotle. So sad. So very sad. The dining experience - the place was packed on a beautiful Saturday. A Line spilling out to the street. Nowhere to sit inside or outside. It was wonderful seeing so many couples and families enjoy an SF burrito experience ... I am thankful or this.
