My movers were amazing and very helpful. I bought a washer/dryer from my friend, and the guys were prompt and communicative during the process. They worked to figure out the best placement of the machines via the hookups, and even offered to hook up the machines for no extra charge. I unfortunately didn't have the right hookup piece, and when they realized this, they offered to go to the hardware store and pick up the right piece to finish the job (when all they signed up for was a pickup/dropoff). When I asked them how much extra they'd charge me for to do that, they said whatever I thought was fair. I'm so very happy with this service! read more

I bought a couch and a love seat from a thrift store after I moved to the Chicagoland area and had no way to get the furniture up the stairs of my second floor (I was living alone) and the store didn't deliver. So this was my best option! I really liked my mover and his assistant--they were both very respectful and really cared to be cautious with my furniture. The only reason I didn't leave 5 stars was because the movers were almost three hours late. BUT I blame the app not the movers themselves. There needs to be a better way for movers to schedule Dollys where they can somehow account for travel time/time between deliveries more accurately. I must say, though, the customer service at Dolly is impeccable. I think I got four different emails from a few different representatives checking up to see how my move was going. And they're real people--not automated systems! Overall, it was a great experience and I'll definitely use them again. read more

Avoid Dolly and Vittorio is a helper to avoid. He had 4 items to move. He complained the whole time. He had no cover for his truck. He scratched the leather couch and put a gouge in the antique dresser. Those are his good qualities. He was helping my 91 year old father move into assisted living in Lincoln Park. At the end of the move my dad paid Vittorio 100$ in CASH and then tipped him an additional 40$ in CASH. I didn't think much at the time because moving your 91 year old father into assisted living can be a little stressful. Vittorio gladly took the CASH. I've asked Dolly to refund my credit card charges and they are refusing based upon them contacting vittorio and him lying and saying he didn't get cash. Awful. Shameful. Thieves. Do not use this company. Apparently Dolly believes in abusing the elderly and stealing from them. I have reached out to Dolly customer support several times and they are not willing to do even a partial credit. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. DOLLY IS A SHADY BUSINESS. Of course Dolly can't share what their helper told them. Of course they are not willing to believe their customer. Do not give your credit card to Dolly! You should NOT give your credit card to a company that you use once or once in a while. It gives them license to charge your card whenever they fell like it. Bad Company. Bad business practices. So the movers themselves were fine. However, I had a box marked fragile that was dropped. Two stars because if you file a damage claim, it can take anywhere from 3-5 weeks to have Dolly respond and process. I have contacted support a times just to get status. I filled out a ticket and then when I called to confirm it was received, I was told they couldn't find it. Then another support person fixed the issue and said someone from damage claims would reach out. I called again to follow up since no one reached out. I had the pleasure of speaking with a very rude woman who said I probably wouldn't hear from damage for awhile. The items that were broken were small but I would like a refund. If I had known this was Dolly's process, I would have used a more reputable company. read more

I was awarded the pleasure of working with Bob and his helper Kristin and I couldn't have asked for better service. I was moving from an older third floor walk up with the worst steps in the city. They were also very understanding of my limitations during the move as I was coming off a recent surgery. I apologized before we started but Bob and Kristin came in with the most amazing can do attitude. It was far from an easy task but they went above and beyond to make sure they got each piece out of the building without damage. When something did get a minor knick or scratch they alerted with right away. There weren't any issues that couldn't be easy sealed. I would recommend Dolly to absolutely anyone. It save me money compared to a larger moving company considering the size and distance of my move (one bedroom apartment, 6 minutes away). This moving company is TERRIBLE. The home office sent a truck that was much too small, and then failed to let us know our movers were running 4 hours behind. Never did. We had to change airplane flights and make new arrangements and the movers were there until close to midnight because it rook them 3 trips to get all our items moved. I booked a delivery service, rated and tipped the drivers very well. After checking the item, it was damaged and they just ran out of there without saying anything. I can't say this enough, STAY AWAY FROM DOLLY! I have used them a few times and this last time was such a horrible experience, I would suggest over priced movers before going with this joke of a company. Having has decent experiences before, I had my boyfriend use Dolly to move his bed and couch into our new place. We set up a Dolly for 10 am. The day before the guy asks if we would be willing to move it to 2:30 p.m.. My boyfriend said sure (I later informed him how dolly works - that it gets posted and anyone can take it and that these movers didn't want to lose this job), they didn't show up until almost 4 pm! They couldn't bother contacting until after 3 that they were going to be late. Well 4 pm on a Friday in the city....after both of us wasted the afternoon not moving boxes (so we would each be at a location for the pick-up delivery). They load the items into a tiny van and I was left waiting at the new place. In the app you provide the address and any notes (we live on a one-way street), when they picked up the items they were told we live on a one-way street, so imagine my shock when I watched my furniture go up and down the street trying to find a way to get onto a one-way street. Now for the delivery - I watched while they tried to shove (and ruin the wall) the sofa in. I was so fed up and tired (and still had moving to do - remember the afternoon was spent waiting), I didn't bother telling them to be careful. What I did do was reach out to Dolly (the day of the move), I am still waiting on the "manager" to contact us about the experience. Gabe (the Operations Supervisor) stated he was sorry for the delay but the managers don't work weekends (well good thing I contacted you on Friday!) and that he would be in contact (that was yesterday and I am STILL WAITING). There are tons of other better apps out there and don't forget the regular moving guys too. **update! Very disappointed. Poor communication and extremely unprofessional. My Helper was over an hour late picking up the item I purchased on Facebook Marketplace, which was inconvenient for the seller and embarrassing for me. As of this writing, I have been waiting over three hours for it to be delivered (it's an hour drive between locations). The Helper texted me two hours ago saying he'd be here in 40 minutes. Can't get hold of him or anyone at the company. So I've wasted an entire day waiting, not being able to leave the house, get on the phone, or do anything not knowing when these guys will show up. Placed a request to move a treadmill from a friend's place to mine, was notified my Dolly was booked and I would be contacted by a helper with a window. Move day and no contact even at the mid point of my window. Contacted support, was told multiple times my Dolly was confirmed and someone would be in touch closer to the time. Fifteen minutes to the end of my window I contacted support again because it was cutting it close. I got an auto response that my message was received-- that's it. Dolly never showed. When I tracked down the phone support line was told by a rep that they had no helpers for it. Had I known they couldn't assign someone I could've made other arrangements but all along I was being told by their messages that everything was good and to "slit back" and that someone would be in touch. I would not trust them with anything time sensitive or a move because there seems to be no follow through/accountability. After I got off the phone with customer service I received a text saying that because my window was over they couldn't reschedule it. I'm out a treadmill now because the pickup fell through, but mostly feel bad that I had to ask my friend to put their afternoon on hold for a pickup that never happened. read more

I recently used Dolly to do part of my move. Within the app, I rated the helper 5 stars, because he was really good, but only rated Dolly 4 stars because there was a large price jump (over $70) between when I first looked & got a quote, then went back to book it, just a few days later. So, I rated them 4 stars because there didn't seem to be any reason for the change in price, as literally nothing about my move had changed from the quote to the booking. Dolly then reached out to me via email for feedback on why I gave them only 4 stars, instead of 5. This is kind of a questionable thing to do in my opinion. I mean, I gave them feedback via rating them, when I didn't even have to rate them at all, much less rate them 4 stars. But I figured I would indulge them and give them some feedback. When I explained why I gave them only 4 stars, I was given the boilerplate response, "Our platform is similar to airfare, the quotes are subject to change if they are not booked at that price." I told them I understand that concept, but that they position themselves to be a cheaper option, and ended up not really being cheaper in this case. I further explained that boilerplate responses like that are reminiscent of other large corporate entities who don't really care about customer service, and that I was tired of dealing with companies like that. They responded by offering to give me a $15 credit for the next time I used their service. I explained that this experience turned me off, and I probably wouldn't use the company again. I also said that the way this conversation was going, it seemed futile to continue it, because it wasn't really leading to a mutual resolution, nor did they seem all that interested in the feedback I gave them. I then asked them to not contact me again, regarding this. Furthermore, the credit they gave me expired in 90 days, which is a pretty small window for an alternative to moving companies. How quickly did they think I was going to move again? A few hours later I got another email from them asking me if I would give them a rating (1 to 5) for the possibility of referring a friend to them to use their service. Really? This prompted me to login to double check (for my own edification) if they do in fact fully disclose the price change (I didn't remember seeing it when I went through the process to get the quote). Assuming that if they did, then I feel I would be partially in the wrong here, for not reading the fine print. Unfortunately, I can't log back in because they deleted my account! I mean, seriously?!? You deleted my account?!? I can however get to their FAQ page. A quick search of that page shows that they do not disclose anything about how prices are subject to change if not booked at the time of the quoted price. Gee, I wonder why they don't disclose that on their FAQ page. I don't want this review to reflect poorly on their helpers, or the helper I was assigned. He was really good at his job. I honestly think the concept is genius, even if the execution ended up being all too familiar to typically horrible corporate customer service. Even if I changed my mind, and decided I would give them another shot, I wouldn't now since they (can't think of another word for it) vindictively deleted my account. So yeah, if you are thinking about booking Dolly, I wouldn't. But if you must, then make sure you book it right after you get the quote. The odds seem pretty good that if you don't book it right then, they will raise their price on you, when you go back to book it. read more

The Dolly mover caused over $1500 worth of damage to my home and furniture. The Company claims to be "safe" on their website but that is not the case. They said the movers are independent contractors and they aren't vetted for experience, licensing, or insurance. The only requirement is a background check and to have a truck. Being that they claimed the mover was responsible for damages I asked for his contact information , only to be told that information is confidential. They did forward a message from him in which he body shamed a person in my home. Kristine the agent I was dealing with was very helpful but was later contacted by Kellie Walker who was not helpful at all and refused to move forward with the claim. I was told to submit 3 estimates which I did. I had to pay for the estimate which was more money out of my pocket. Why was I told to get 3 estimates and later told they are not responsible? I used Dolly to move one massive armoire from a walk in closet on one end of my house downstairs to my garage. This piece was massive and hard to maneuver out of and into doorways and downstairs but Lorinzo and his helper were awesome. They were problem solvers and were very careful with the armoire taking extra precautions not to hit any lighting or to damage the floors or walls. Trust me when I say this was a big job even if it was just one piece of furniture. If you can request a mover, try to request Lorinzo. He was friendly and really good. Our Dolly service began with a pickup at a local furniture store. Everything went smoothly until the truck entered our driveway. As the Dolly movers went to take our dresser off the truck, they got the leg stuck. This caused the leg to get damaged. Naturally, as the customer I was upset this happened, especially since the item was an expensive piece. The movers put the dresser in my house and as we discussed the damage and next steps for compensation for damages, one of the movers became agitated. He slammed his hand on my item and discussed how heavy it was for him to lift. After some discussion, the men were able to move the dresser upstairs successfully with the scrapped leg. After they left, I contacted the store to try and get the paint color so my husband could fix the scrape. The store gave me the run around saying the Dolly District Manager would call me to rectify the situation. The store is the Scott Shuptrine store, which is located in Art Van. The manager there, Andrea, assured me they had a great relationship with Dolly and nothing like this had ever happened before. She assured me Dolly would be in contact. Despite the attempts I made to rectify the situation, my husband and I are left to color match our piece ourselves, pay for the damages ourselves and fix the item ourselves. Dolly did not hold up to their end of the deal and neither did the store they partner with since I was never contacted. I would not use this service to deliver any item, particularly something of value. At first Dolly was responsive by offering a $20 future credit but in the end did nothing. My husband and I would've been happy with the correct paint color being given and we would've fixed it ourselves. Now we are left to color match everything on our own with no responsibility on anyone. The movers were able to get our items into our home but we are left to handle the damage on our own. read more

I needed movers to transfer my furniture from one apartment to another in Chicago (about 3 miles away). Unfortunately, there was a Winter Storm Advisory during my move, so the morning of, my helpers canceled a few times. There was a couple hour delay from my scheduled appointment, but Dolly ended up finding two new helpers to come move my furniture. Once they got to my place, it went smoothly. I had paid for insurance with Dolly prior to the move that would cover the entire purchase price of the couch, but 2 months later my claim still has not been processed by the company. Dolly support is unhelpful telling me they "can't provide a timeline for my claim to be processed." It appears they don't have enough staff and they don't communicate with you that it's not coming at schedule time you have to call them. Someone sent me an email stating that they would be sending a contractor out ON THAT DAY--which was a lie!! No one called or showed up to fix my window. Then, in the same email, this person by the name of Gabe tells me to submit photos and invoices so that they could reimburse me! I can't even get a return call and I'm supposed to trust that they'll reimburse me?! If a company is operating on the weekends, they should have a manager working on the weekends. My guy Garrett R. was punctual on both the pick up and delivery, moreover he followed my instructions to a t with protecting a fragile vintage mirror. He was friendly and professional. I have no complaints whatsoever with my service. However, I was saddened that Dolly is not set up to handle specific requests for certain workers as I would most certainly love to hire Garrett again.
