Booked a large heavy dresser to be picked up from Lincoln Park to Ravenswood on Feb 9 - snowstorm day! The eve before, Dolly sent an email alert about the pending storm and if I needed to reschedule no problem. I communicated directly with my Dolly mover Samuel. He said the same, if I needed to reschedule no problem but it was up to me because "We're Chicagoans - a little snow never stopped us." This gave me supreme confidence I was dealing with good guys. That morning, the app alerted me to their pickup arrival - just on time - and later that they were arriving at my place - earlier than even scheduled. They pulled into the alley at my recommendation and even turned their badass red pick truck around when I asked them to, so as not to not block my neighbor's garage, as if anyone were leaving anytime soon with 10" of freshly fallen snow. Samuel and his helper got the dresser in the door, and w/o my asking, started to take their boots off! So considerate! But my hardwood floors needed a good cleaning anyway so I told them not to worry. The dresser was wrapped in heavy plastic and blankets. They placed it exactly where I wanted, and made sure to point out the hardware in one of the drawers. I also want to mention they thanked ME for clearing a path in the snow for them. So yes, Dolly customers are part of making things work! I can't think of a single thing that was less than ideal. Yay Dolly! read more

Beware of this company! I booked a mover with them. They gave me a confirmation number and charged my card. They never showed up. When I tried to email and.call them they would never respond. Having said this, the dissatisfaction I have is with the app and web UX/UI, it needs to do a better job in capturing and anticipating customer need with better options. First review: First time Dolly customer, highly dissapointed! First round, got a guy with a small pickup truck not big enough for my stuff, he left and I got charged 60% for cancellation. I called customer service, they tried to help me by booking me another guy with a bigger truck. I hired two workers to move an old refrigerator out and a new refrigerator into my home. Armando and Louis were fantastic, they were on time, and worked quickly, carefully and cheerfully. THEY NEVER SHOWED OR CALLED! My mother in law booked Dolly 4 weeks prior to her moving date. She put a $50 deposit down, had a confirmation number and everything, so I know she didn't make a mistake. Moving day comes, and they never showed up or contacted us in any way. 5 people are trying to contact them to figure out what is going on, and they blow us off entirely. In the end we had to rent a uhaul and call every family member we had in order to finally move the furniture to her new place, and she never got her deposit back. TJ Kirk put more effort into shoving a banana up his ass on camera than Dolly did into doing literally anything. I hired Dolly to move a couch into the new house, and the movers did not come prepared at all to move a couch, dropped the couch on the driveway and damaged the cloth and back of the couch. It has been ***3 months*** after filing a claim with their so-called customer service and Kellie Walker, their claims specialist has decided to play a game of hide-and-seek with me, including multiple others as can be seen on their BBB profile. They do not offer any way to contact their claims team, after I have emailed them multiple times, and have not received a reply in over a month from Kellie. This is no way to run a company that claims to have a customer service department but does not allow them in any way to communicate with the claims team. Terrible company, would not wish this on even Donald Trump getting his things out of the White House. read more

Just don't risk wasting time with Dolly, I thought the reviews were just a once in while negative review. Well they aren't, after waiting 4 hours to get a response on a pick up of a small sectional. We had a driver assigned to us at 8:39. Pick up time was to be between 8:30 and 9pm. We received a message from our driver to notify him if we had any questions I replied we would be waiting in front with the sofas ready even though I had paid to get him to help load and remove them from the house and then help bring them in to the new house. After 10:40 rolls around we call him for an eta, well he's belligerent and states he never was notified about a pick up and that he is on his way home from work. I just want my money back, this was the first time and last time I use this app. I will also make sure to warn customers I see daily at the bank to avoid this service. read more

I just read through all the recent Yelp reviews and they were really bad, but overall I see this place gets 4.5 stars. We really lucked out, because our movers were just fantastic!! To start with, we were moving our furniture to a consignment store and didn't check to see what time it opened. I had to move our 8;00 - 8:30 start time to 10:00 AM the day before the move when we realized the store wasn't open until 10AM. We had one queen bed, one armoire, two night stands and one 9-drawer dresser to move. We had cleaned out everything well in advance and brought down whatever we could to the main floor (so no stairs for the movers). However the big items, the armoire, dresser and part of the bed were on the second floor and had to be moved. When the first guy got here with his pickup, hubby didn't think everything would fit, but it did. The second guy showed up shortly later. They initially took all of the smaller pieces and first floor pieces out to our front porch and laid them on a blanket. Then they brought the bigger pieces down, struggling with the armoir because of its sheer size. Once they had everything down, they fit it all in the truck (I had put a few drawers in my own vehicle too) and we drove over the consignment shop to drop it off. They loaded everything into the consignment store and were done. It took about an hour and 15 minutes or so. The store was probably 2 miles away from our house. Both guys were very friendly, very efficient and very professional. We appreciated their flexibility in moving the schedule, their promptness and their effort at moving things out quickly but without any damage to our home or the furniture. They used shrinkwrap around the armoire, blankets to make sure nothing was scratched and tied down the furniture in the pickup to make sure nothing moved around. Also put blankets on the dresser when in the pickup to protect it. When I initially priced out a couple of places, this place was by far less expensive than the second quote. $150 vs $490. Whatever the cost to move it is less in our pocket from the sale of the furniture. And now I get to go shopping for a new bedroom set!! YAY ME!!! (albeit smaller and less pieces) Downsizing while shopping is still fun!! LOL! I would recommend this place. I am sorry other Yelpers had a bad experience, but my guess is that Dolly has many movers all over the different areas and maybe some are better than others. My experience was great and I would use them again if I needed furniture moved. read more

FIRST HELPER DID NOT SHOW UP. I recently scheduled a Dolly to move a few items to a donation center, including a mattress, coffee table and stereo. The reservation experience was a breeze, and soon after I received a text from my assigned helper (Juan V.) confirming the arrival time, so I was pretty excited about this service from the very start. The scheduled arrival window was 11:30am - 12:00pm. After waiting for 45 minutes, I decided to text the helper at 12:15, but received no response. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited another hour before texting again. Still no response. I received no email or text from Dolly customer service apologizing for the mishap, and any attempt to contact them directly were not successful. Around 4:30pm (5 hours after the scheduled pick-up time), I received a text from a completely different helper (Robert S.) who had been assigned to me. Luckily I was home when he arrived at 5:30pm. I was quite annoyed at this point, but I will say that Robert TOTALLY REDEEMED the Dolly brand: he was communicative, courteous and extremely helpful. It took 5 minutes to load up his truck and we were off to the donation center. Robert was also kind enough to drop me off at my house on the way back. The 2 star review is thus more of a reflection on Dolly itself from a customer service standpoint, and not my helper Robert, who was exceptional. I simply wish there was more communication on Dolly's behalf to rectify the original no-show. read more

The reason why Lyft/Uber works is because people are already professional drivers in their day to day lives. The reason why AirBnB works is because, well if you are a human being, you probably have a place to lay down anyway as it is a basic necessity...you just choose to share it with others. Dolly and Taskrabit have the same issue, trying to democratize professional services which require professional expertise, while it is noble, is almost always a miss rather than a hit. If that is the route Dolly chooses to work then like Upwork let the user select a socially proven mover! This is a basic rule of democratization of any market, better yet product, #1. I must have choice! #2. Provide a better product 10x over what the market is offering! - I am not surprised my furniture was damaged - I am not surprised the movers left the couch in the hallway because "they could not get it in" - I am not surprised I had to move 2 boxes and a chair myself because the movers did not have enough space in the truck and trailer after specifically requesting a full apartment move - I am not surprised they did not move the bed screws with the beds - I am not surprised that I had to request the booties for the floor regardless of the fact that they had steel toe boots - I am not surprised they did not even wear your insipid Dolly Hanes tees! "Stop spending money on swag". Your movers desperately need training! I am not surprised about any of the unprofessionalism. I am not surprised, I am not surprised, I am not surprised! While you may have a market right now, it is not exactly the most noble of services, you are the Check Cash or Title Loans of movers. During peak moving season you will get some business because: - people need moving - your VCs are breathing down your necks - greed Greed is not good! Stick to boxes and furniture assembly. Moving a home is ambitious. Soon enough, like all fringe market businesses chances are, your name will change from Elance to Upwork to add some varnish to old scarfed pine. And, if you persist long enough, you will certainly end up inhabiting the creepy corners of Credit Car Loan companies baiting the downtrodden of the system! Even Elon Musk has toned down his talk about going to Space and started focusing on easing traffic congestion here on earth. While you still have VC funds turn this ship around and find your pivot sweet spot. Talking about funds, my biggest and most exorbitant moving bill came from the most disastrous move. I have had several fine experiences with Dolly in Chicago, so I am not sure what is going on with this company. Basically we got stood up TWICE in three days by Dolly. No communication whatsoever either time. You do not have a pointperson when you request an appointment, so there is zero accountability. I want to make clear that it is perfectly understandable if movers are not available any given time, even if it is discovered that there is no availability after the appointment is made. What is unforgivable, however, is that there is no communication that no one is available. We were badly inconvenienced both times this weekend in trying to get this project done, simply because NO ONE CONTACTED ME. EVER. What makes this worse is that they pre-charge you, so now not only did I not get my projects done, but I am also out $80 and I don't think I will ever get it back. I did indeed ask for a refund (no word yet on that) and I will NOT be using Dolly again. Which is a real shame because they provide a valuable service for small moves. read more

I used Dolly's services two times, and it was excellent. My helpers, Lorinzo and Morell, were very professional and fast. In case with Lorinzo, it was 3 pice cabinet. I bought it on Craigs. And the seller told me, it isn't heavy, just bulky. And this information I provide, when I was creating my dolly. Boy, was I wrong! It is made of solid wood, and it is not only bulky, but very heavy. But Lorinzo and his helper didn't say a word, no complaint at all. They loded and unloaded everything fast, and delivered my cabinets to my apartment on second floor. All in excellent condition. Dolly Customer service emailed back saying multiple charges would be refunded but that never happened. Terrible customer service is an understatement. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. This was hands down the worst move I've ever had- and I've moved 5 times in the past 2 years. To preface- I injured my back a couple days before my move and really needed some dependable help to pack my uhaul. My first dolly cancelled ONE HOUR before he was supposed to start. I got an automated message from dolly that said "if we don't find a new helper for you before tomorrow morning, your job will be top priority!".... excuse me??? I'll be top priority tomorrow? My move was in one hour! I should be top priority ASAP! I never ended up getting assigned a new mover and my boyfriend and mom had to pack the whole uhaul themselves. Next- my move into my new place. The two guys were an hour late to start (I guess I should be thankful they showed up at all) and one of them was drunk. Like functioning drunk but still.... come on people. The shit storm continues.... They were honestly just really low quality movers. They took forever to move my furniture, kept having problems with their dolly and just were all around very unimpressive. I would not waste your time using dolly. They have some serious customer service problems (no one ever tried to contact me until their movers weren't properly compensated for a trip) and when I asked for a manager I got someone texting me. The assignment was simple: move a used refrigerator without damaging it. Not the case. The two movers put the refrigerator (stainless steel) on its side in the back of a pickup. No moving dolly. No pads. No tie downs. When it arrived at its destination, the door panels had five new dings in them. What a surprise. The mobile app is weak, too. My advice: Stay away. I had a very bad experience with Dolly. I purchased some preowned furniture on Face Book market place and Dolly was recommended on FB website, so I thought they should be trustworthy. My service request to move was confirmed on Wendesday and payment withheld by their platform. According to their policy, they will inform you about helper information quickly and the latest would be within 30 minutes before start time. My start time was 12 pm Saturday. Then on Friday, somebody contacted via the platform requesting me to change start time to 6:30pm to suit his time schedule, so I rescheduled on the app ( I thought the platform allowed him to contact me, then he must be able to get the job) . However, after the rescheduling, the helper said he would wait for the platform to assign the job to him. Surprisingly, nobody showed up or contacted me until almost 7 pm! I looked at the app for helper information numerous times and tried to contact their support line, all in vain. Until minutes close to the end time, I got a message saying they were unable to find any helper and asked me to reschedule for the next day and provide a wider time window. The helper who contacted me before said he did not get the job! During all this time, I had to communicate with my seller because he had to wait in that empty house for them to come and pick up the furniture. He was very understanding, but I did not want to cause him all this trouble. It made me feel bad. However, I agreed to reschedule for 9-12 the next morning but got a message from their support team saying that they put me on 2-2:30 time slot. I told me seller about the time since he would have to drive the place to wait for them. Then, the next morning, I checked the app and found they actually rescheduled me to the 9-12 am time slot. I was confused and sent them a message to clarify. Their message said I was actually rescheduled to 9 -12 am. It seemed that they were unaware of the message they sent me about scheduling me to the 2-2:30 time slot. I had to clarify with my seller again, who drove to the place and waited until I got an apology from Dolly at 11:52 am（8 minutes close to the end time) telling me that they failed to find any helpers and had extended my Dolly until 4 pm on that day. Then we waited and waited and kept checking on the app and text message for any update about helper info. No information. No answer to your question. Finally, at 5 pm (1 hour after the end time), I received another text message saying that did not find any hleper and ask me to reschedule again! My seller had been wasting for another day in vain! This is too ridiculous! They are neither responsible nor reliable! read more

I had booked a labor only service to load a truck as we moved our daughter out of a 6th floor apartment. We had a 2 hour window when we were allowed to use the elevator in her building. Dolly texted me and cancelled 5 minutes before our scheduled service with them. Not even a courtesy phone call. Had a huge heavy mattress delivered fedex and need to get it up to second floor. I opted out of the white glove delivery service not realizing it was a 70 lb 8 ft box. Dolly hooked me up in less than two hours same day request. From putting in request to larking a nap on my new mattress in less than two hours. It was cheaper than white glove service and the guys Nekobi and Dan were really professional and efficient. They unwrapped everything and disposed of boxes. Highly recommend. read more

Amazing experience! Edward H. was my lead driver, and he kept me informed right from the get go. I'm a huge fan of communication, especially in this type of situation, and Edward nailed it. He and his helper, Nekobi W., were very professional, and arrived at the pickup and drop off locations at the same time.
