Dollarama - Hostess and Vachon cakes now at Dollarama?!? Not a dollar though, lol, they are $3.25.

This is my local Dollarama. I first discovered Dollarama back when I was a student of limited funds…read moreliving in Montreal (where Dollarama seems to have had a monopoly, because it was the only brand of dollar store around, unlike here in Ottawa where we have Dollar Tree and other independent dollar stores). However, this was back when everything was legitimately a dollar. Nowadays, they have items up to $5 or so. Anyway, back then, I was amazed at all the household items I could get at Dollarama, and admittedly most items in my tiny studio apartment were from Dollarama, haha. So after I graduated and started earning a decent income, I stopped shopping at Dollarama, but then one day popped in to browse for old times sake, and they have totally upped their game! Dollarama has some seriously cool stuff, lol. Like Funko Pops for $4! And limited edition chocolate bars, like Green Tea Kit Kats, Inside Out Reese's peanut butter cups, etc. for $0.82. I've spotted Method brand hand soaps, Live Clean brand sunscreen, Batiste dry shampoo, Biore face wash, like legit brand names, not just sketchy brands you've never heard of, lol. They even had organic rice cakes. So all this is to say, I once again like Dollarama. While I still feel that many of their items are poor quality, and I'd rather pay a little more for better quality items, they do have some items that other stores carry and charge more for, and they have some unusual items that you can't find at other stores, or have been discontinued at other stores. This location in Carlingwood Mall is very spacious. It's in the basement, but there are stairs, escalators, and an elevator. Lots of free parking in the mall parking lot.

Rikochet Resale - Inside the store

Note that as of November 2023, they are no longer at 255 Richmond Rd but are at 358 Richmond Rd…read morenow, it's just down the street a bit further west. The new location also has free parking but behind the store instead of in front. The parking access is via Danforth. Rikochet Resale is a consignment store. I like the layout of the new location better. The entrance is long and narrow but when you walk towards the back it opens up and is quite spacious. They have a mix of contemporary and luxury items. They have women's clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry and other accessories. I like that it doesn't smell musty in there and everything is organized by size and colour as well as type (e.g. coats, dresses, pants, etc.). Prices are satisfactory for people who usually pay regular retail prices. I am a bargain shopper extraordinaire, so I was less impressed with the prices. For example, I saw a used Kipling purse for $75. I saw the exact same purse at Marshalls last week brand new for $50. I saw a pair of cute Sorel boots for $150 (in my size too), they were in good shape, but obviously used. Winners regularly has brand new Sorel boots for $100-$175, and I've gotten them on clearance for as low as $40. I also scored brand new Sorel boots at Nordstrom Rack once for $25. Full disclosure, I'm a women's size 5 in shoes. Being a less common size helps with scoring deals. Anyway, I'm hard to impress when it comes to deals because of my track record, lol, so others may consider something a deal when I do not. They do have some unique pieces. I spotted a cute Caty Lesca (French brand) dress. I love European styles and I like finding brands that aren't readily available here in Canada. Staff are nice. They greet you, but then leave you alone to browse, which I like. They have a colour-coded tag system. Some colours have additional discounts such as 10%, 25% or 50% off. The legend is located on the wall behind the cash register. It's a bit small and far away. I would recommend they make it bigger or post it somewhere where it's more visible, like at The Clothes Secret in Old Ottawa South.

Mona, hope you will read this review. I have never left a review for a store. In this case if I…read morecould I would give it a minus. I just got home from your store on Richmond road. I can't believe how rude your salesperson was ( purple hair). She wouldn't accept anything because I had a bag with neatly folded designer items and some newer worn. Then I had other designer items on hangers which were refused because I was told right away to come back because I didn't read instructions on line. I mentioned that I could rearrange it , but no not good enough. I don't live in the neighbourhood and drove some distance. Not a chance. I will never go back again nor will I recommend this store. I have to say that people are kinder to their animals. To consigners be prepared that you're not treated very kindly and there is absolutely no customer service.

We loved that it's a local store and we try to support local in our purchases whenever possible. They have a variety of furniture on the floor as well as decor of all kinds. The team at Blueprint Home was absolutely great! Karrie and Kim were very knowledgeable and helpful when we explained to them what we were looking for. We could tell that they are passionate about what they do and actually care about providing excellent service to their clients. We ended up buying a Lind leather couch and love seat for a good deal. We ordered them in July and we were expecting to receive them at the end of November, but the shipment arrived early November instead. It was a pleasant surprise! The white glove delivery experience was amazing and we're very content with our overall experience with Blueprint Home. We're planning on going back to get more furniture and decor there in the future. We highly recommend them!

I asked to see the manager to discuss this further and upon the manager arriving I got the exact same response. I asked the manager whether I was able to able to exchange the product for another item and if there are able to manually write down the item for which i had a receipt for and was still declined. When the manager noticed my frustration, in-order to get rid of me I was told to please go ahead and make a complaint if i was not happy about the service. Me personally being in the customer service business I definitely though this was highly un-professional and that this situation could have been dealt with better or for CT to have a back-up plan in place.

I pass it quiet frequently and always wanted to stop in, but it was never on the top of my priority list, especially with so many other thrift stores on that street. I had some Christmas items that I wanted to donate, and thought, this is my chance to check out Bibles for Missions. I could tell just from stepping up to the donation door that they bombarded with donations. The donation door was wide open and there were a couple of workers in the back, no greeting, acknowledgment, or thank you, so I plopped my donation down and decided to check out the store. The first thing that I noticed were the signs placed in the entrance "please leave big purses and bags at cash, we reserve the right to search your bag," and so on. Maybe there has been a lot of theft? Not sure, but it did not give me a friendly first impression. No greeting, or acknowledgment throughout the 15 minutes browsing the store, but there were plenty of staff on the sales floor for customer assistance/questions. I did not find that there was a great selection, it was like walking through grandmas basement. Nothing caught my eye here, and I was not "wowed" by anything in particular. What stands out about this thrift store than others, is that it is mostly volunteers, and the majority of the profit goes towards their partnership with the bible league of Canada. More information found on their website: http://www.bfmottawa.com/about-us Would I go back? Only to donate, not to shop.
