Classic hippie store! I would imagine the local high school and college women would love this…read moreplace. Loads of Indian block-printed cotton items, plus tons of reasonably priced jewelry. Also tons of cute knickknacks like little figurines, Christmas ornaments, baby mobiles, and home decor items. They're open late, too. I could have browsed here for hours if I'd had the time.

This store is very reminiscent of the stores in Kensington Market in Toronto circa late 1990s that…read moresmelled like patchouli, and sold insense, ponchos and hacky sacks ;) There's a definite bohemian vibe to the store. Or as my husband would say "it a place for hippies." They had lots of cool sterling silver jewelry from Thailand. The prices were quite reasonable too. They had lots of earrings and bracelets in the $10-$25 range. I really didn't look at much else in the store, but they had beads, wooden knick knacks, pillows, and clothing that looked like they were from Nepal, Indonesia and Thailand, among other things. I loved these kinds of stores in my middle school and high school years, but it's not quite my aesthetics anymore, with the exception of the jewelery, because I still love sterling silver, it's the most suitable metal for my colouring. I had a great time browsing their large jewelery section. I almost bought the cutest bracelet, but it was a tad too big for me :( Staff were very nice. I always stop by when I'm in Halifax to poke around a bit, and be reminded of my style as a teenager, lol.

My first experience with Taz was when staff refused to order me a fairly big indie release in 2023…read morebecause "their suppliers didn't have it." As I type this review I see on Taz.com that there is currently one copy of that exact record in Halifax and one in Bedford. Not sure why Taz refused my $45 when I was happy to wait for the album to arrive in store. My next experience with Taz was very similar. I pre-ordered another record on Taz.com and when release day arrived I anxiously awaited a phone call or email. I heard nothing, so I checked online to see if I had misremembered the release date. There were 9 copies on the shelves waiting to be bought. I called the store and asked if my order was ready, the employee was completely baffled. While the staff did the right thing and (I assume) took a copy off the shelf for me, this is a pretty major oversight. I had received my confirmation email before I hung up the phone. Staff at the Halifax location are truly some of the most miserable people I have had the misfortune of doing business with. I have no desire to return, although I have had fantastic experiences with Sunrise Records in Dartmouth so I will continue to build my 400-500 strong record collection. Taz records is the enshittification of vinyl and media shopping incarnate. Record stores are going the way of Blockbuster and HMV and it is because of poor management and misguided ownership, only interested in making a quick buck from a dying industry.

This place is A-OK! It is good, not great…read more As Lawtons locations go, it's definitely middle of the road. If I were grading it, it'd get a B- for "Satisfactory." If it were a student, it would blend into the background - not outstanding but not under-performing either. Above and beyond? Heck, no! Perfectly adequate is just fine!

This drug store location is my most frequented, simply because its so close to my place of living…read more Besides the factor of convenience, there is nothing about Lawtons to keep me coming back. Its a tidy, presentable store and covers all the basic tidings. Last minute trip? Yes... its the typical drug store to the rescue. With a postal center, medium-sized cosmetics section, pharmacy and all the isles in the between, Lawtons is likely to satisfy most. However, as a reoccurring customer, I've noticed poor, untimely service on more than one occasion. The people at the front cashes always seem to be more than adequate; however, its the cosmetics and postal peeps that have been off their game. I can say with confidence that EVERY time I've browsed the cosmetics section, I've been either blatantly ignored or exposed to loud conversations between staff members. If they, then, see me, and choose to make the effort, its never been with regard. This is a section of a store where people look to employees for expertise, and its just not present here. I've had a few bumps in service with the postal counter, as staff consistently appears stiff and reluctant to serve. The job gets done... but how about a little pep. Not a lot... I realize customer service can be grueling. But could you stop acting like I kicked your puppy? Sheesh. I'd like to see some friendlier service here to back up the convenience. Here's hoping, but I won't hold my breath.
