When you discover that he started out in tailoring followed by 20 years at Barney's NY, the whole scene makes sense. I tend toward classic styling and my friends were a little trendier - we were all happy. Broad price range on clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and accessories. Marcus looks for style, great quality and excellent value. I bought a jacket with more tailoring than $200 bucks should have delivered, and I got some great fitting jeans for $70 that have been my go-to all Winter. Shirting tends to be on the higher side with top notch brands like Equipment (wonderful silk fabrics) and Maison Scotch (Scotch and Soda). One friend got a slick wool and mohair blend coat in a fabulous blue and another picked up a groovy floral dress. Marcus Blaque and his men's store Britches of Troy on River Street are an asset to the Troy community, and you should definitely check it out. Knowledgeable staff if Marcus isn't around.

A Hardware Store on Steroids!…read more Our first visit to Hatchet Hardware of Troy was for some plumbing parts. When we first walked in, my thoughts were, 'they're not going to have plumbing parts...' I was totally wrong. This hardware store has it all - everything you expect in a local hardware store and then some. The entry to the store is filled with unique items for your home, trinkets, and gifts. It's a visual delight. Then you get into the heart of the store and there you'll find housewares and small appliances, landscape supplies, light bulbs...the list goes on. They even offer refills of cleaning supplies for environmentally conscious shoppers. Don't forget about upstairs which houses the plumbing supplies amongst other things. What's even better is the staff is friendly and helpful. If you haven't been yet, check it out!

The store is very clean, brightly lit, well organized, and nicely maintained. Prices aren't too bad either. Many items are of course at lower prices, and even some of the other ones are typically only a few cents more than I might pay in a local grocery store. Most of the right wall is frozen/refrigerated goods, with most of the basics. There's several aisles with clothing and seasonal stuff as well. This Family Dollar runs circles around some of the other ones I've visited in upstate New York.

Long story, but here we go. (Skip to paragraph 5 to avoid backstory.)…read more I'm really selective about the items w bring into our office. And I've been taking months to sort of curate it. (If that sounds obsessive, its because it is.) Trying to figure out how I wanted to decorate the mantel in my office I spent 8 weeks deliberating on different center pieces. And so I Googled... Googled and the Googled a bit more. I stumbled upon a large piece of drift wood that I loved. It was the size of a coffee table and about $800 + shipping. I decided thats what I wanted for my mantel (only smaller and if possible.. Cheaper?) If I can't find something, I Google and ask strangers I meet during errands. Strange encounters for them. Productive time for me. I was at the florist on 3rd inquiring about where to find river wood or drift wood. An unexpected question for a florist, indeed. I was told to go to the "drift wood store" a couple blocks away. Which surprised me. I am not aware of any sort of store ANYWHERE let alone 2 blocks from my search site of an office. So naturally I entered the store feeling very positive about everything. But I couldn't find any pieces I liked. (That whole "very selective" side of me.) I was invited into the basement to tour more pieces. Neat. I always enjoy backstage type experiences. Especially in business. I found a piece I liked but it was kinda small to be the center piece on my mantel. I grabbed it anyhow. I brought the piece upstairs and Kate offered to build a piece for me. Wow. Didn't think of that. I like that idea. Okay... She said she would have it in a couple hours for $30-. Crazy. I have to wait 20 minutes for my pharmacist to count to 30 but Kate will make me a sculpture in a couple hours. Lets do it. She called me back a couple hours later and I returned when I was free. The sculpture came out literally "perfect". I had given her dimensions and used vague hand motions as to the piece's size and shape. Believe it or not thats exactly what I got. And it looks dynamite. Not overly done. But still purposeful. Now my story is filled with a good amount of serendipity and good luck. But. I do believe that success is "when preparation meets opportunity". No doubt... They were prepared by way of product, talent and new ideas. So I don't see it as so much serendipitous as I do a success. I am very happy. Everyone loves a good customer experience. And its refreshing to find something locally that I can't find online. I'm probably gonna find some more uses for driftwood now that I know of the supply and talent we have locally.

Danny did a wonderful job crafting a beautiful chuppah for our wedding. He set it up at our venue…read morein Hudson the day before the wedding and tore it down that evening since we had to have everything out by the following morning. He was extremely personable and responsive to all of our requests and even made it extra tall for our extra-tall wedding officiant! So today, my focus was ladies clothing not homegoods, pet supplies, and snacks such as Dubai Chocolate. I found some good buys in the neatly organized racks. For, example, Sketchers Sneakers, "Lululicious" brand flared yoga style pants ($12.99 and $16.99) at great prices and in a few colors. Bought a burgundy zip jacket to coordinate with the yoga pants. Also bought a practical dress up or down beige open front sweater for only $19.99. Clearance items were picked over, but the new fall stock consisted of quality casual items perfect for my retired lifestyle. Biggest benefit of retail in store shopping: Being able to try on clothing! Can not beat the prices the TJX group of stores offers through knowledgeable buyers with good contacts. The dressing room was neat. The clothing racks were organized and well labeled. Even the clearance racks were tidy. Check out was speedy with six registers in operation. Parking lot was just resurfaced and marked well. Did not check out the restroom.

Typical mix of the good stuff with the cheap stuff. Line was not bad. Easy lot parking outside. In the same complex as other businesses including a liquor store and a grocery store. I'll check back.

Surprisingly they still carry their gardening and homewares, just a smaller selection. The rug section is pretty good for a smaller store. The only thing to be cautious about is sometimes their personal hygiene products are priced higher than regular stores. So if you have a product you are interested in pull out your smart phone and check the prices of neighboring stores before buying. Other than that this location is clean, curated version of other Ocean State Job Lots. They have rotating stock so check often for deals.

This is the worst Job Lot I've ever been to. There is so much junk stuffed in there that the aisles…read moreare too narrow and it feels like a fire disaster just waiting to happen. Yet, they never actually have anything good! The store is always disorganized with employees blocking aisles stocking shelves and creating logjams where it's hard to maneuver around. Much of the merchandise isn't even unboxed from whatever it was shipped in. Everyone who works here seems lazy and miserable. There's a 50% chance that the cashier at checkout will be having the worst day of their life, and they will definitely take it out on you when you checkout! In addition, the people here are bottom of the barrel. Every rude, resentful and self centered jerk shops here and leaves their carts right in the aisle while they are off in their own world as the main character. Seriously, this store is like a magnet for the rudest, most self centered dregs of society. Skip this one and go to the one in Valatie. It is much better. The people shopping there have manners and the employees aren't completely lazy and miserable jerks.

Get rid of all your streaming services…read more This is the best spot for late night entertainment. The poor whites are the funniest, but the black fatigue is catching up. Cashiers who insult you, ratchet employees who can't keep their personal lives personal, pajama pants and pink hair, cool guys with cool cars that are obviously insecure, and mentally ill folks who argue with the hot dogs. Bruh, seriously. Just hang out here for like an hour past 10:30 pm. It will change your life. I'm half black, so I feel 100% shame.
