Danny did a wonderful job crafting a beautiful chuppah for our wedding. He set it up at our venue in Hudson the day before the wedding and tore it down that evening since we had to have everything out by the following morning. He was extremely personable and responsive to all of our requests and even made it extra tall for our extra-tall wedding officiant! This is the second custom table my family and I have purchased from Danny. Throughout the process he has been very communicative every step of the way, asking for input into materials, size, shape, and finish. As you can see by the pictures, this idea started just as that-- a crappy picture on paper, and now we have our dream kitchen table for Christmas. A table that will grow with us and our family, happily accepting the expected dings and scuffs that will come with having children. I am beyond thrilled with how our table turned out. I fully expect to work with Danny again in the future for more custom furniture. Could we have gotten something similar from pottery barn? Perhaps. Long story, but here we go. (Skip to paragraph 5 to avoid backstory.) I'm really selective about the items w bring into our office. And I've been taking months to sort of curate it. (If that sounds obsessive, its because it is.) Trying to figure out how I wanted to decorate the mantel in my office I spent 8 weeks deliberating on different center pieces. And so I Googled... Googled and the Googled a bit more. I stumbled upon a large piece of drift wood that I loved. It was the size of a coffee table and about $800 + shipping. I decided thats what I wanted for my mantel (only smaller and if possible.. Cheaper?) If I can't find something, I Google and ask strangers I meet during errands. Strange encounters for them. Productive time for me. I was at the florist on 3rd inquiring about where to find river wood or drift wood. An unexpected question for a florist, indeed. I was told to go to the "drift wood store" a couple blocks away. Which surprised me. I am not aware of any sort of store ANYWHERE let alone 2 blocks from my search site of an office. So naturally I entered the store feeling very positive about everything. But I couldn't find any pieces I liked. (That whole "very selective" side of me.) I was invited into the basement to tour more pieces. Neat. I always enjoy backstage type experiences. Especially in business. I found a piece I liked but it was kinda small to be the center piece on my mantel. I grabbed it anyhow. I brought the piece upstairs and Kate offered to build a piece for me. Wow. Didn't think of that. I like that idea. Okay... She said she would have it in a couple hours for $30-. Crazy. I have to wait 20 minutes for my pharmacist to count to 30 but Kate will make me a sculpture in a couple hours. Lets do it. She called me back a couple hours later and I returned when I was free. The sculpture came out literally "perfect". I had given her dimensions and used vague hand motions as to the piece's size and shape. Believe it or not thats exactly what I got. And it looks dynamite. Not overly done. But still purposeful. Now my story is filled with a good amount of serendipity and good luck. But. I do believe that success is "when preparation meets opportunity". No doubt... They were prepared by way of product, talent and new ideas. So I don't see it as so much serendipitous as I do a success. I am very happy. Everyone loves a good customer experience. And its refreshing to find something locally that I can't find online. I'm probably gonna find some more uses for driftwood now that I know of the supply and talent we have locally. read more

Great place to visit with great things to buy. The shop is friendly and creative, as are its owners. The inventory constantly changes. I have purchased several things there and almost certainly will purchase there again. Although most of the pieces are unique, the distinctive style is consistent and the items presented for sale are always worthy of consideration. The prices are reasonable and very fair. I stumbled on the store owner's work (the artist is Katherine Hammill) in a small furniture store in the Berkshire Mall in Hancock, MA, just over the NYS line. I bought one of her stunning driftwood sculptures which stands about 5 feet tall and is made out of driftwood pieces artfully arranged to make the most of the gnarly, curly shapes and symmetry. It was a bargain and I was thrilled to have it. Fortunately Katherine's name was still on a tag hanging on the piece and after a quick search, I found her shop online and simply had to post here. Her art is beautiful but unfortunately, you can't buy anything from the store online. That means I will just have to make the trek from my home in Stamford, CT to Troy, NY to buy more pieces. Her work is simply beautiful....If you are ever up near Troy, NY, I encourage you to stop in and see it because if the piece I bought is anything like the things in her store, it should be well worth your time. You won't find anything like it and as Colleen M posted, her stuff is truly one of a kind. As a footnote, as my husband carried the piece through the mall and then through the Target store in a cart on the way out to our car, we were stopped by no less than 6 people who wanted to know where they could find one. If I could give this less than one star I certainly would. I've lived in Troy for about 2 1/2 yrs now and moved here because we found it quaint and up and coming. I stopped into this shop and there was a women talking to someone and playing with a dog on the floor, a man certainly not a gentlemen walked in and out watering plants and chatting from time to time with the woman. At no time did either of them acknowledge I was there. They never said welcome, hello or goodbye when I walked out. I would never recommend this shop to anyone at all and I truly hope we see any more of this type of treatment ever in our city or any of our cities here in the Tri-City read more
