Really surprised by the 4.5/5 star average on here. I stopped by here today because I wanted to see…read moreif they had some Halloween cards. I normally go the Dollar Tree in Troy (in the Walmart plaza) but I was on my way to Panera to pick up curbside, and this was the only dollar store in that area. It had kind of an old/funky smell inside. I saw they had cards through the window, so that was encouraging, but their Halloween selection is pretty limited; they maybe had like 10 different card designs to choose from, but 7-8 of those were for little kids (grandkids, children, etc). I ended up buying five for family and friends, and good thing I did because they have a $5 minimum limit for credit cards. The final reason I'm giving them 3 stars: the cashier was not wearing a mask. The man next to him beside the counter was, FWIW. He had a very thin layer of plastic sheeting between me and him, so I'm guessing that's why he thought it was fine ... however, I'm "high risk," so I definitely wiped off my credit card with a wipe when I got back to my car. I wouldn't stop by here again, I will just go to Dollar Tree next time. But they do have a lot of cards (non-Halloween ones) if you need them.

A superb dolla store, to be sure. Pretty positive they're selling the same cleaning products as the…read moregrocery store and the Family Dollar that both share that plaza, except for cheeeaper! Picked up lots of little goodies here (drawer liner, spoons, a silverware caddy). Minimum purchase of $5 in order to pay with plastic!

We noticed many items for $5 and $10 dollars. The cashier…read moreinformed us they are changing over to a Dollar General. Some of the selection has changed They just haven't changed the signage yet. Still the same old huge parking lot and I assume the same rude workers. Different packaging is on the way. Things won't be $1.25 anymore, called it progress. 12/23

This place is always in an utter disarray, there's unopened Christmas stock from 6 months ago…read moresitting on top of a shelf, aisles are full of boxes, customer service is non existent. This is how my transaction went with "Kathy" today: I put a case of energy drinks up on the belt, of course this pisses her off because she has to scan items, she gives zero greeting to me, then she immediately demands "Take them out of the box". I do so, even though she could clearly math it out to see how many were there (and the case says how many there are.) Then as she's scanning them she snarkily says "I'm fine, thank you." Wtf is that, she didn't even greet me, she made a stupid demand and that's all she said, is this broad crazy? She think she's owed any sort of pleasantries after she throws a passive aggressive fit about my purchase, doesn't greet me/ask how I am, and then pulls that on me? This place needs to hire people who can do the bare minimum customer service social action. Of course she starts bagging my stuff even though I clearly brought the case up to use as a container, and she doesn't even ask me if I wanted to use that like every other cashier at every other store I have been at since the beginning of time. I put the first bag in the tray, that didn't clue her on. Whatever. Of course me using the case also seems to set her off, she pushes the other bags she does at me and throws my receipt in the box without a word, then greets the next person in line. Jesus...

As full disclosure I have a long term membership in Costco and to lesser extent Sam's clubs. These…read moreclubs are the gold standard for discount clubs and when I compare BJ's to these clubs it really just doesn't compare favorably in my opinion. Costs of the same items I shop for are definately less at the other two clubs where Costco offers a larger and definately nicer selection of more premium products and organic goods in my opinion. The prices at BJ's are definately for the most part better when compared to other brick and mortar stores selling similar products but not when compared to Costco's or Sam's. The other item of note is that both of these chains have a store very close to this BJ's which means you can pick the chain of your choice where distance is not an issue. Having said that you will find stuff BJ's carries that the other stores dont (same for Costco and Sam's) and this could be enough to sway you one way or the other. But for me though I think I will be sticking with the other two memberships and mooch of my Brothers BJ's membership when I want something from that chain (:

I used to be a Sam's Club member, but I got pretty frustrated with how often they were out of the things I regularly buy. On top of that, their whole cash rewards situation started feeling like a hassle. If you wanted to redeem your cash, you had to go in, stand in line, and could only use it in certain ways -- not even for gas, which seemed ridiculous. BJ's, on the other hand, has been a breath of fresh air. I'm a single guy who lives alone, so buying in bulk works great for me -- and BJ's makes it even better. One of the coolest features is being able to check out using their app. You scan everything, pay on your phone, and then just show your receipt at the door. No long lines, no stress -- it's amazing. Their gas prices are right on par with Sam's and Costco, and the in-store prices are basically the same penny for penny. But BJ's wins big for me with their customer experience and extra conveniences. I especially love that they have a real deli counter. The quality is great, and it's such a nice touch. All around, I'm really happy I made the switch. BJ's just gets it right.
