They've really changed their products and obviously their prices. They added furniture in the last 10 yrs and upped their patio furniture also. The one thing I liked about Big Lots was their prices and their ability to have odd ball and weird stuff. Now it seems they are competing with other stores. Their prices are higher than Walmart. They took out the arts and craft sections for kids. I think it was a better store when it was a Mish mosh of random stuff for less. Now it's just like any other store. They do have cute and nice things but you can find them cheaper elsewhere. I was really bummed out.

They have a great selection of items, good hours and most important everything is one dollar and no more. Not like some of those other dollar stores that claim to be one dollar but most things are upwards of a dollar. In fact, many of the items they have, I have see in other stores for more money. The dishtowels I found in A&P warren for $3.99 each and the Puppets in Toysrus Bridgewater for $4.00. Also, they accept credit cards for any amount, even just $1.00, whereas most other dollar store require a minimum purchase amount like $10.00. They are easy going with returns too. In my opinion, they deliver products, pricing, and customer service far better than is usually found in a discount store. As far as a dollar store goes, the Dollar Zone chain is hands down the best one there is !!

Take your pick as to location, inventory is similar. For instance I found a hot sauce made by Old Bay, Excellent stuff, I put that **** on everything. They also have a nice array of items in the frozen section, especially the orange sherbert and the frozen key lime pie! Here's why the place is popular and usually a jumbled mess... Everything's a Dollar! For example you can purchase comparable laundry products at a third the cost of major brands. You can get nearly 3 litres of 3 kinds of bleach for a buck. Bread, soups, canned veggies, pasta, snacks, sauces, condiments, even books, cd's, dvd's and a wide variety of sugary beverages. A smart consumer on a tight budget could do some decent cupboard and refrigerator filling here. Sans the disarray folks complain about. You'll be losing out if you don't give them a shot. Bottom line, Judge for yourself.

I was actually pleasantly surprised to see that the women's clothing and shoe areas were much neater than I remembered. I stopped in this weekend to make a return. There were two people waiting at the counter, and only one employee was working in the area, handling both returns and in-store pickup orders. This was frustrating because each pickup order took quite a bit of time - the employee had to walk back and forth to the other side of the store to retrieve the items. The in-store pickup orders should be located in the same area where returns are handled, or there should be two employees working the counter: one handling returns and one handling pickups. On a busy Saturday, having just one employee manage both is simply not enough. The current setup is inefficient and poorly designed, and it creates unnecessary wait times for customers.

Mike the owner is very accommodating and it very fair to sellers when making offers to buy their books. (Often explaining how much they would be resold for an makes a reasonable offer based on that price). Mike and Jackie have excellent knowledge about Comics, Toys and Funco Pops and serious collectors shop there weekly because of them. I'm at a total loss for why there are some bad reviews here, Yes they have a sign that they are always buying, but you are best calling ahead and asking when the owner is in (which is almost all the days). As he is the one that will make the best offer and he really knows what sells well and doesn't. (Avoid Sundays and Mondays if you are there to sell your collection). Word to the wise, when selling a collection, it is always best to call ahead, see when the best time to visit is and see if they are interested in your collection. If they are, this is a great place to deal with as you won't get robbed. Naturally they are a business and need to stay profitable and need to buy at a rate that allows them to mark it up, but you aren't going to walk in with a rare comic that is worth $500 and walk out with 20 dollars, I've seen Mike buy and he is very honest. (Sometimes that means that he has to refuse to buy items that he can't sell, and other times people walk out with much more than expected. A reviewer complained about parking during a snow storm. My feeling is that the person with the car parking problem wasn't even dealing with the people who own the comic shop, probably from another business or an irate person who is a customer of the vacuum shop. Another reviewer said that they didn't feel comfortable there and I find this hard to fathom, I've always felt comfortable there and noticed that they treat their regular customers like family, often knowing about them, their jobs and families and remembering to ask them about things that they have shared about their lives (Changing Jobs, Children's health, Weddings, loss of family members, etc.).

Unfortunately, the condition of those back-issue books rarely reflects the significantly higher prices they charge. As an avid comic collector and seller myself, I'm well aware of market value. And their prices are well -above- market value. Keep in mind, this is only regarding their back issues. The new release section had standard new-release pricing and was well stocked. So if I ever decide to visit again, it will only be for the new releases and nothing else.
