Lately however there are new people who are hurting the time-honored reputation of the shop. On my last visit, I was dropping off fairly expensive clothing. A man likely in his seventies, told me in no uncertain terms that I could only bring 3 bags at one time ! He really did not seem to have any idea of the value of the items and was very rude and almost hostile! He never called any of the regular staff to evaluate the articles and I left feeling put-out and sad to say the least. In the future I will donate to The New Canaan Thrift Shop, which has a much friendlier staff, even though I live in Darien.

Very disappointed when they do not follow government rules. They are supposed to round the penny…read morebut they always give you less saying the government stop making penny but when i remind them this time so all of sudden the cashier go inside and bring a roll of penny and give me exact change. Bottom line they are ripping all the customer on top of this difficult economic condition!

Either way I'm writing this review to address an amazing feature that I love. As I was looking for a self checkout or a service lane to checkout I pushed my cart to the shortest line and a very nice woman whose name was Helen offered to scan all items while I was in line. This feature is the greatest thing Costco has added, Helen was very nice, and scanned everything fast and instructed me to tell the cashier that everything was already scanned. Helen(member since 2025) probably in her late 40s early 50s, she was the nicest person at this Costco I've dealt with. I've had plenty of encounters with management on items that had no tag and made me go back and find another one, instead of looking it up in the system. I've had bad service just walking out and being profiled by the receipt checkers taking extra long and counting my items 3 times. But by far by a long shot Helen was the best encounter I've had with any employee at any Costco on the east coast. Costco thank you for hiring Helen and thank you for adding this scan while in line system. But also Costco corporate please stop moving the entire store around. This store generally does have some really great selection, cast iron pans, black and white cookies, boiled eggs already peeled, and some other items that are generally hard to find or out of stock at other locations, and the value you get for most items is quite amazing. I hope in the future Costco starts stocking the fairlife milk products. I just wanted to shed a light and make sure you take care of my new favorite employee Helen. Unfortunately the only two they had were Proctor Silex brand (about $20 new) for $11.99. No thanks, the Goodwill I usually go to sells irons for $5.99. They had a lot of decent looking clothes at reasonable prices. I noticed a lot of Talbot items. The mix of things in the housewares department was mostly just average. I'll go back if I'm in the area, but it's not worth a special trip.

The store is bright and clean, which got me to stay and shop longer. They were running a buy 3 get 1 free, if it was under $9. Chris was very professional and friendly. He called me when the table and chairs arrived which was happily a little quicker than expected. He set up delivery on a Sunday and gave us a time frame. The delivery man arrived within the expected time frame and was very careful in putting it in place and setting it up. Very happy with the whole experience and will definitely buy from there again.

Six days later, I asked the same question at Customer Service. They just had no idea and just shrugged their shoulders. I asked to speak to a manager or the head of Customer Service - no one was able to help. Not surprised store has customer rating of 2.3 with Customer Staffing being incompetent and clueless about how to deal with Walmart customers. Who is responsible for their training?
