Me and my friends are 17 years old and wanted to grab snacks for a movie night. One of the managers, black curly hair white female would only let 2 of us in at a time. It was about 9:40pm and we were shopping two at a time and after wasting a lot of time because of the 2 minors at a time rule. With about 2 minutes before 10pm closing time, she locks the doors and doesn't let in the rest of us, not allowing us to shop, when we clearly had enough time. 0 stars. read more

I've been to quite a few Dollar Generals in my time. As a toy collector you often wind up there to find exclusives that only go to chains like this one and Family Dollar. This is normally a harrowing experience. With the possible exception of the food section, most Dollar Generals I've been to look like a tornado went through the store with a vengeance. Not so with this branch. I was shocked by two things: First the aisles were wide, easily accommodating two people side by side. Second, the aisles were well organized and *neat*. It was actually a bit disconcerting, as if the natural order of Dollar General itself had been disrupted. The store had customers, but it wasn't particularly crowded so check out was quick and easy. In addition to being in a nice town, this is a great example that other Dollar Generals should aspire to be. read more

We came to dollar general for a whole 2 items and found no one at the register checking anyone out. The only person up there was another customer trying to check out. The self check out register was left unattended with an issue from a prior customer. No one appeared to be working in the store. When we arrived we saw a delivery truck but someone should have been at the registers. I walked around looking g for someone and yelled into the area where it says employees only and no one responded. I finally located a man that appeared to be straightening up shelves. I asked him if he worked there and he soad yes, what's the problem? I told him that we had been waiting at least 10 minutes to check out and he asked why we didn't do self check out. Believe me if there wasn't an issue at that register we would have. He said he'd find someone to help us because apparently he couldn't ring us up. Over 5 minutes past and a gentleman finally came to ring us up. He asked us what the problem was as if it was our fault that there was a line or an issue with the self check out register. Unbelievable customer service. I even called the store while we were waiting to see if someone would pick up that we could tell them we were at the registers. No luck. read more

1 self checkout, a line of about 10 people and none of the employees would open a register. They're hiding somewhere in the store. When someone did finally come, I was standing right in front of the register waiting to self check out, she opens her register doesn't say a word to me just looks me dead in the face, so I took that as she wanted to check me out with her. Once the transaction was complete, I said thank you to which she turned her back and kept doing whatever she was doing. I hate coming here! read more

This place was great- reminded me of Harmon's, but everything marked down. Some stuff, like candy, was so cheap you really have to ask yourself why? Old maybe? Other stuff you will kick yourself for not buying here. My usual brand of soap was here and very cheap, but they did not have my toothpaste or deodorant. I was DVD hunting, and they had a nice selection of blu-rays and DVDs here. Range was $2-20, but I found some Disney blus priced at $10, so that was nice. The pricing didn't really have any rhythm or reason. Also, there were at least 5 different displays of movies I searched through. They have loose DVDs in sleeves called "treasure hunts" for $1, but they look pre-owned and some were scratched beyond what I think would be playable. Bottom line here, caveat emptor. read more

I love this local spot. I buy all my paper goods, Pet and cleaning supplies from them. I lost my keys last summer and realized when I got home. The employees searched the whole store for me and found them. No store is perfect but I appreciate how kind they were to me. I'm always greeted with a hello. Many teenagers pile into the store and cause chaos as they like to hang out there which I believe is why some people say the employees check out customers sometimes and keep an eye on them.. it's loss prevention. The first time I've ever been to a Dollar General was in Point Pleasant, NJ. The impression I got out of that store was the fact that it was just a little, competitive general store trying to serve a small area. Now this store moved into Cranford long ago, where the purpose was the same as the one in Point Pleasant. Now I'm moving on with this location. A part (if not the "anchor") of the historic Cranford Square, this location used to be a Drug Fair in the 90s. After they went out of business, Dollar General came in to take over this unit. Nothing has changed in regards to the exterior of the building, which was the same as how I remembered it when I was a little boy in the 90s. Perhaps some of you local residents in the general area remember that as well during the 90s. The interior of the building wasn't very decorative at all. But hey, you don't go to a store solely for the purpose of seeing decorations and decals inside of a building. What matters was whether or not a store carried what you needed at a fair price. In regards to the merchandise, this store carried a limited selection of snacks, candy, beverages and groceries (including DG's own brands), household, kitchenware and hygienic items, toys, and even some clothing. Now that's what I call, a general store. This store used to have the slogan "Where $1 goes a long way." That quote is factual today, but even though "Dollar" is in the name of the store, this ISN'T a dollar store. While a good amount of merchandise was sold for $1, other items were sold for a higher amount. A lot of the merchandise (not all) was available for under $10. In regards to the pricing, I'd say it's mostly competitive. Getting the best deal really depended on what you were trying to get. I went here because they had a sale on their case of 24-pack bottled water. That was a cool deal. Some of the items that I saw here were sold at lower prices elsewhere, but for the most part, the prices were reasonable, especially when there was a "sale" label on it. Overall, this store felt like a "Mini-Wal*Mart" (or a "Wal*Mart Express"?). Consumers close-by could grab some essentials at affordable prices without having the need to drive further. If I could give this place no stars I would. The cashier is extremely rude and clueless. He charged us double on most of our items. Not all the prices are accurate. It's like non of the employees work there. They just stand around all day. The deals were leftover from the previous week. The concept is wonderful just wish it was a real thing. read more

This dollar general is cheap and has an average selection. However, the workers are straight up rude. There is this lady who always follows you around if you walk around and look because she thinks you're going to steal. Also, the check out line sucks due to numerous malfunctions with the machines, lack of workers, and people who take forever to check out. The lines are always long but it would be better if they hired more and better workers. read more

Usually pretty neat & organized. The manager & most of the employees are cheerful & helpful. They have everything! From soda to PJ's. Lines can get long. I don't know why they only have one register usually open at a time. I shop here close to 3x a week for basics. Three rolls of paper towels for a buck fifty. Can't beat it! read more

This is not a dollar store, so it's name is deceiving. The store is large as it can carry more than dollar-priced items, but in general, I didn't find anything to be that cheap. In fact, I found some items to be more expensive than what I might find in Walmart, and I didn't see anything that was marked $1.00. I purchased a gift bag for $2.50, but the same bag would be $1.00 in a regular dollar store. I bought it because I didn't feel like going elsewhere, but I don't think I will be returning there anytime too soon. read more

yes its annoying when the AC doesn't work, but, the staff is always courterous and helpful. I have never gone in there and was treated badly
