Want things late at night, and they normally have it at a reasonable price. People go there all the time; They might not have the brand you prefer, but over time, brands are less important. No better feeling after a long 16 hour shift than stopping for a 12 pack of your favor beer and being bumrushed by the cashier because "company policy" states I can't walk around the store with beer. God forbid I go from the cooler to the line without being made to feel like a criminal in a dollar general I frequent 5 times a week. Ridiculous. read more

The remodel is nice but when the manager is at the register complaining and talking bad about the place that's not ok.

Honestly I would say this store is pretty good. People have asked why do we need two and I'm not gonna lie we have a small neighborhoods nearby and with this it helps us a lot for a little walk to nice easy convince store when we need some quick things. Pretty neat, organized and good prices. Not bad at all. read more

To me this is the store here in Barstow with the most trashy folks who shop here.. compared to their Rimrock rd location this one is always in disarray and items are scattered all over the shelves read more

Upon my visit on 6/29/17 I was greated by a friendly albeit extremely soft-spoken employee by the name of Alex. This simple "Hello, Welcome to Dollar General!" was by far the best part of my experience at your store simply because I share names with the employee and she was pleasant with a genuine smile. I spoke a return "Hello" and followed up with a simple question. "Do you sell plastic plates?" This question sparked one of the worst retail/customer service shopping experience of my adult life. I say this confidently because I have been a Customer Service Representative and Manager for the last 15 years. "Alex" then replied with "Uhmm, I don't really know, I'm new here!". Okay all was forgiven, she was a new employee no big deal, I'll find a senior associate and find what I need that way. I spoke a "Thanks" and casually strolled off to find another associate, which happened rather quickly given the size of the store. When I approached the other associate (long black hair, with some grey, older Caucasian possibly Latino, thin, late 40s early 50s) I first noticed the absence of her name tag, which provided a conversational inconvenience, as I'm not one to assume pronouns or marital status, but quickly moved past it's absence as I was still working and needed to quicken the pace of this trip. When I first spoke to the employee she had her back to me and upon the first utterance of a request for assistance I was slammed with more attitude than I care to try to react. The summation of which resulted in a statement of "(Long exasperated gutteral) Ughhh!! Yeah I guess I can help you find them". She made no eye contact, no smile, and was quick to turn her back and walk away without any information regarding whether I was to follow her or if she was just giving up on life and retreating into the depths below. So I followed her to an aisle which contained a plethora of Tupperware, Glad containers, and a surprising number and variety of plastic bowls and paper plates. Needless to say after about 30 seconds of silence she realized what I knew upon arrival, that there weren't any plates in the aisle. I shrugged and started to walk away and she said "Oh there's not what you're looking for here huh?". I replied "No there aren't any plates". She looked stunned at this revelation, and then addressed the other employee who was hard at work in the next aisle over. She said" Hey, are there any plastic plates?" The other employee responded with "ALL OF OUR PLASTIC STUFF IS RIGHT THERE!" "IF IT'S NOT THERE WE DON'T HAVE IT!!!" She then went back to doing whatever she was doing. At this point about 15 minutes had expired and a thought donned on me. I suggested we look near the summer stuff. Apparently this idea was just short of genius, and I inspired the no-named employee who was assisting me to follow me on my journey three aisles over to the summer stuff where I found the plates I was looking for. Within only 10 feet of my initial entry point to the store and my first encounter with the still smiling cashier. I spoke a few joking words to the no named employee who was looking rather amazed that I had found what I was looking for, and said "well I guess all the stuff isn't over there, maybe you should tell her that( in reference to the mysterious woman on the other side of the Tupperware aisle)". No-name responded "Haha, yeah I guess your right, but no I can't say that to her, she's the manager!" My customer service senses exploded at this point and I replied rather snappily "Then she would be the FIRST PERSON I'd let know". I walked away and finished my transaction with the rep at the register. My change was in hand and I was on the way out the door when I heard the Cashier speak to No-name asking her the location of some Children's Tylenol. Another long sigh ensued and I made my way out the door feeling sorry for whoever it was that was about to spend 20 minutes searching for Tylenol for their sick child. This is the worst experience I've ever had in any customer service establishment. I certainly won't be returning or recommending that any of my friends or family visits your establishment until some top-down employee overhauling and rehiring is completed. So...My 1 year old son, My husband and I went to this store just to grab something sweet to eat today. Everyone knows with a 1 year old you have to carry a diaper bag everywhere you go because kids can have accidents! As we walk into the store and get halfway down the isle filled with cookies and all kinds of sugary treats a store associate approaches my husband who happens to have our sons diaper bag on his shoulder and tells him there are no bags allowed in the store and that if he wanted to leave his bag in the store that he would have to leave the bag behind the cash counter.Now, I have shopped at this store numerous times with no problem, diaper bag and all. But when my husband who is 35 years old, 6ft tall with a white tshirt and basketball shorts on (owns a business) and happens to be black walks in with a diaper bag there is a problem? Ill never shop at this store again. First, if the company is going to have a no bag rule please advertise it outside so customers can make a choice on whether to shop at the establishment instead of making people feel like petty criminals by asking them to leave their bags behind the cash counter (its very cheap and its very unbusinesslike, but if youre going to do things that way at least give the customer a choice). Secondly, If youre going to enforce a "No Bag" rule then always enforce it, dont be so random as to pick and choose based on if the customer looks "suspicious", Again Ive been here numerous times and have never had to leave my bag behind a counter. Third, If the customer is on foot and has no car to leave their possessions in and decides to leave their bag behind the cash counter is Dollar General going to be responsible if valuables or cash happen to be missing? Please make this make sense for me because how my husband and I were treated today Im never gonna return to your store again! read more
