Doi Camera has been around forever (I think since the 1970s?)- check out their tiny store on some really prime real estate right near Grand Central. My 3 month old baby needed to get her passport picture taken and this is the only place in NYC I trust to get it right the first time. Very straightforward process- I went in, explained what sort of passport picture I would need, and the proprietor jumped into action! She got out a table with a cloth and pillow so I could put my baby down for the picture. She was very efficient and we got the picture done in one try! 5 minutes later, I received 2 copies of the picture. Paid $19 and we were on our way. This is HUGE when you have a fussy baby who's like "what is going on, why did you just put me on this table, what was that big flash of light, what what what." We'll definitely be back for more passport pictures as my baby grows :) read more

I went to take passport photos on a Saturday. The space is small and a bit cramped considering the number of customers they have, but the Japanese lady who ran the store was very polite and professional. She handled four passport photo customers while I was there, including a baby! DOI Camera does photos for the USA, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Australia, and I'm sure they're able to do photos for other countries as well -- the selection is not something to worry about here. I thought the prices were reasonable. It's a few more bucks than what you might get at CVS, but you're getting a professional photographer with tons of experience with passport photos -- you really don't want your passport application to be denied because there's a reflection in your glasses or something! read more

Sadly I feel that the service fell short. 1. They didn't call me to tell me that the 11 tapes I brought in were suddenly going to be $39 each vs the quoted $29 that's over $100 more dollars... 2. The wait was over 8 days late because they were busy I have not yet viewed the footage but will update once I do. In future, if you coats are going to dramatically increase, it is good business practice to call and confirm that the person is willing and able to afford this. read more

I neglected to update this review but if you are going to the Jamaican Consulate do not take any pictures here or anywhere before you go unless you are beyond certain they will be the correct size. These pictures that I took were rejected and I had to pay $15 inside the Consulate to have them redone. Thankfully they have a very good system and it is very efficient. read more

THE place to come for photos if you need one for passport or diversity visa (greencard lottery). The lady who attended my friend this morning was both sweet and professional. She offered a kleenex to wipe off extra oil after a morning spent walking around the city, took a photo with two flashes (with umbrellas), showed us the photo before finalizing and even tested the photo on the government's website for approval. It is a tiny space shop but the people there are very nice, they know what they are doing, and the passport picture came out nicely. I really enjoyed talking with the lady, who seems to be an owner, she was very friendly. I visited there with my two sons for the first time today, it was raining hard. My kids were little wet. As soon as we got in the shop, the lady there asked me nicely if it was ok to turn off the a/c. She thought it was good idea for my kids to warm up. Actually kids were saying it was cold inside so it worked out well. As soon as they got dry, the lady asked us if she could put back on the a/c and she did. I never expected this kind of service in the city. What a great experience we had. Yes, The price was not cheap but if you think about the location, I would not complain. Brought my 35mm roll films for printing/burning into CD. At first, everything seems fine. Then found out that there was nothing printed/burnt on CD they gave after paying and picking up. So went to the shop TWICE (first time I did not bring my notebook) with my two workable notebooks with DVD drive for questioning, and demonstrated the problem on my notebooks in front to them. The guy who is the shop's photographer said that just put the CD into regular DVD player, not on notebook or PC (WTF...who can I send the pics to my family and friends?! And seriously just buying a separated DVD player for that CD viewing pics?!). Throughout my demonstration to them, the old lady in the shop kept denying their mistake, which was the CD did not format before printing/burning, and questioning my two notebooks' capabilities in return. Overall, I will never give them business anymore and or go there for taking passport pictures again. Terrible and insane customer service!! read more

Setsuko has digitized numerous important cassettes and videos for me and and she has always patiently handled some very complicated assignments I have given her. I got pretty bad and weird pic, when I asked what kind of lens they used, the photographer didn't know and didn't even know how to find out. I looked at the lens and it said 20 mm wide. I've used DOI to convert slides, digitize video, film, or transfer audio etc...never had a problem. It's a tiny shop that knows what its doing and delivers finished results on time, custom labels, good price too.
