I've had two horrible instances at this location where my dog has been seriously injured with zero communication from staff. The first time I gave them a pass and because the owner first hand handled getting my dog to an emergency vet to get staples - I gave them a second chance. Now the same dog has come back from boarding needing stitches above his eye with ZERO explanation or acknowledgement from any of the staff. The staff is not trained and should not be handling peoples pets. My beautiful husky now has a permanent scar above his eye and the staff had no idea how it happened and never got him treatment so I had to take him to my vet and pay to get him stitched. I'm appalled at the lack of care these kids are giving the dogs in their care. read more

We loved having our sweet dog here for daycare at first until we noticed every time we checked the cameras she was in a kennel. We also noticed every time she came home she was super on edge and is now terrified of her own kennel. We switched over to another place in the area and Annie is happier than ever. We are super bummed about this as we have had great experiences with dogtopia in the past, but it broke our hearts to see our sweet girl in a kennel all day. We were always told how sweet and how good of a girl she was so it confused us a bit to see her in a kennel the couple times we sent her there. We came for just a consult because I was not sure that my dog would like it there. I adopted My baby from a shelter and we are working on his confidence and being comfortable. It is slowly but surely. He is timid shy and scared most of the time. But the moment we walked in he was none of those at all. The staff was attentive and friendly. I decided to let him go for a short day care so he could mingle and make friends. He had such a blast he did not want to leave. I also love that we could watch a live feed so I know what my baby is doing. Maybe its the separation anxiety but it did put me at ease. Will definitely bring my baby back!! read more

As long as they continue to offer the same level of service and care, our dog will not be going any place else. They are awesome from top to bottom. Day care, boarding, and the other services (ie. nail trimming, etc) are top notch. When our dog is there she only spends time in a crate for nap/sleep time. The rest of the time it is open play in a gym-like area or outside. You know the place is pretty awesome when your dog, upon know she is in the parking lot, goes nuts and can't wait to get inside and then greets the staff by giving kisses and rolling around on the floor. read more

New to town and called Dogtopia Lakeway today to get info on their dog daycare. Everything was going well until they asked me type of dog (black lab mix/mutt) and weight (70 lbs). At that point "no room at the inn" for "large" dogs to do daycare. They said they were full for the month. When I asked how about if I sign him up next month, they said "no room until further notice". Hmmmmm....a mutt and 70 lbs....discrimination??? From My Point of View: Let's face it, our dogs are like our children. I spoil mine to death, I meticulously screen anyone who cares or sits for my pup. So when I first moved here I was doing so much leg work reading reviews, going in and inspecting places and talking to people. It was kinda nuts, but hey for me I had to be absolutely sure. I was so nervous to leave her with pretty much anyone, that for a while if we couldn't take her with us we didn't take any trips!...Until the day I found and fell in love with Dogtopia! I can not tell you how comfortable I feel leaving my sweet baby girl in the hands of these wonderful caring dog lovers! The lobby is inviting and welcoming. It's decorated with all kinds of doggy treats, the colors on the wall are vibrant and happy, they always have a dog of the week, you can find pictures on their website and facebook of your pup enjoying themsleves. You are greeted with warm smiles, and a wonderful vibe throughout. I also love the fact that they have web-cams so I can pop in online and see if my pup's behaving herself! One of the highlights of picking up my pup is they tell you all the cute things they did while you were away and who they played with, (a special treat for me haha) And it truly shows that they care. From my pups point of view: WOW I can tell she LOVES this place, by the way she does her wiggle wag and gallops around in the lobby, she makes herself at home, knows exactly which doors to go into and never gives me a second glance when I leave her! :p seriously she doesn't lol. When I come to pick her up, she doesn't even want to leave! (nah, I'm not bitter ;p) she just wants to hang out in the lobby with the gals. But when I do get her home, she is konked out. I have been a loyal customer for over four years but during last few months service has declined severely. They can't e-mail grooming appointments . They scheduled an early morning appointment on Saturday and were closed and later told me I should have beat on the door. Today when I took my dog they took six dogs after I arrived and said they took large dogs first??? They always up charge for mats on my dog even though I comb her out . Why do I get treated so bad for a loyal customer? I guess I will look for another service. read more

I don't know if it's any good, but my dog seems to love it. We walk in the front door and he's already forgotten I exist as he greets all the staff and makes his way back to play with his buddies. And most importantly, when we pick him up, he is exhausted from all the playing. The staff is great and I always feel like my dog is well cared for. What an awesome concept. My furry kids go here for daycare. Its really great that you can drop them off in the middle of the day for five hours so they can get that crazy energy out, especially when its too hot to go to the park The indoor play area is great and there set up with webcam so you can watch the dogs on your computer while there being boarded. The owner contacted me and resolved the issue once the review was posted. She was able to let me know when the refund was initiated and I was able to verify. Yay! Because of the poor communication from her staff at the time, I had a wide window of time and did not know if I had received the pro-rate refund or when/where to look. My cursory search over several statements returned nothing, but with the owner's help I realized I needed to look further than I expected. Again, NOTHING wrong with this place (aside from just a few communication snafus), I really liked it. My dog is a weirdo and a mama's boy and he's just happier working than he is playing; couple that with a move across town and it wasn't a fit for us. I love this business and more importantly my 10 month old labradoodle has a blast every time she goes and plays for a day or a weekend or a week! BEWARE! For a business who advertises that you won't have to worry about your dog while on vacation, WRONG!! My 10 month old puppy was NEVER even pet by one employee (I watched the webcams)! When I picked up my puppy, there was a sign warning everyone about Kennel Cough. HOWEVER, my puppy not only had kennel cough, she had a horrible infection from drinking out of the 2 water bowls 45 dogs drink out of all day. I'm glad I picked her up when I did. I noticed 3 days before picking her up, she was sick. The webcam showed her curled in a ball trying to not be bothered. I also paid for a spa treatment and her ears and tail were matted from being bit by BIG dogs that should have never been in the Toy Box room. They know us all by name and our dog LOVES to be there. He comes home tired and happy after 5 hours. We have boarded him there and the staff was great - calling me several times for approval to feed him pumpkin, and making sure I knew he was in good hands. We take Dugan, our SpringerDoodle, to Dogtopia mainly for socialization with other dogs. It is just my husband and myself, so we thought that Dogtopia would be a good idea. It is! We feel so confident leaving Dugan there. All the staff is genuinely interested in the dogs, and are always friendly and kind. Love the doggie cam! Can always check in on our fellow! We take our puppy there for grooming because she was not co operating at the big box place nearby. The techs there were not exactly very friendly there. However at Dogtopia right from the time we check in to the time we pick her up, things seem to go smoothly. Away she goes trotting away led by one of the friendly front desk people. Usually the owner does her nails and he does it very quickly and efficiently. There are always dogs at the day care . You can see them on the cc tv monitors in the front . There are many regulars who bring their dogs for some doggie play or boarding. The prices are not bad either. I mean I was paying more to get her nails trimmed at the big box place that I mentioned and they always acted as if they were doing me a favor. read more

This place is amazing. I have been taking my dog (well my adopted dog, it is really my bosses dog who I am emotionally attached to) for two years now. We have a reoccurring grooming appointment every three weeks for the little Chorkie. It started as a way to help get her out of the house and to become socialized since the small dogs have anxiety. Alex was who groomed her for two years, but unfortunately she left the company this month. Aimee has bathed her I think for two years as well. Aimee is very amazing with the dogs. In fact, Aimee has moved up in position since Alex has left and is getting her certification for grooming. The details of my experiences: 1. The Chorkie had been going to Dogtopia for one year and then all of a sudden I noticed that her shakes and anxiety had been getting out of control when we would pull into the parking lot and transfer her inside the building. I would let her walk and sniff the large surrounding yard to help her shake off the anxiety but it only helped temporarily. It took about 8 months for me to realize why she had started this uncontrollable anxiety issue with a groomer who she had been seeing for a year. The entire time I had assumed that the groomer had maybe accidentally nicked Bella boo with the clippers or something minor but that was not the case. In December, I used their bathroom near the bathing area and noticed that there was a small crate in the bathing room. A light bulb immediately went off in my head. It was the crate. They had started crating her! It had been going on for about 8 months from what I could tell if I calculated when she first began her shaking behavior. Background of this sweet chorkie is that she has severe separation anxiety and she cannot be crated under any circumstances. It stresses her out so bad that the vet told us that she could not be boarded or crated because it actually did her more harm. Okay so once I figured out what the situation was I spoke to the Dogtopia about it. And they immediately said "OKAY, WE WON'T CRATE HER IF THAT'S WHAT SHE NEEDS TO FEEL GOOD". They were so easy and simple, loving and caring. The girls even held Bella before her grooming and after, even while working the desk so that she could have a better emotional connection. Aimee totally reassured me that they would do whatever they need to help her stay calm. She also explained to me that they have a few other dogs that go through special needs situations and that they do what they can to resolve them as well. 2. The other dog, a large Labrador mix became ill with all the ailments the come with old age. Her hips were bad, she went completely blind. She is complete with severely itchy skin. Dogtopia tried their absolute hardest to keep Samantha comfortable. They even tried different shampooing methods and conditioning treatments to see what was best for Samantha since research has come out stating that the oatmeal is actually not favorable for itchy sensitive skin. They listened to all my concerns and suggestions. 3. The third dog, Toby has never used this groomer because he really has never needed to. But he comes in the picture on those rare occasions when he chooses urinate on his sister Samantha! AHHHHH. Dogtopia has been amazing enough to squeeze Samantha in for a bath while I am bringing in Bella for her regular visits without me having a specified appointment for Sam. Just to help me out! Same situation for when Sam is having her ungodly itching moments. And trust me, this place is BUSY! 4. This place is just beautiful. It is the nicest, cleanest, friendliest-looking groomer I have ever seen. I did a ton of research before allowing the special needs Chorkie to be put in the hands of anyone and all I can say are that many of the groomers in Austin should be shut down. Dogtopia's facility is the best of the best. I hear their doggie daycare and boarding is great too. Summed up, it looks like you are visiting the pediatrician. 5. They have a Belly loyalty card. Not some other junky, or around-for-the-fad card. Just Belly! read more

Visiting the area drove for almost an hour trying to find the location. Was told dog had to be evaluated and there was no one to do this service - WHY didn't they say that before we drove to heck and back trying locate the place - oh by the way Jessica wanted to help us - guy who came back looked at us after a glance he decided he WOULD NOT HELP US - Never again !!!! I have a 14 year old lab mix . She was a rescue pup and still suffers from a bit of anxiety. Add that to her age and a bit of blindness... and you could imagine how pleasantly surprised we were to find Mugsy LOVED this place. We travel several times a year and for most of the Summer so ware really grateful for Dogtopia... I've taken my Bichon to Dogtopia for the past 5-6 months strictly for grooming. We started with Dogtopia's groomer because the previous groomer at another facility had shaved my Bichon without my permission. When I dropped my dog off yesterday I explained to Tracy (the groomer) to do what she's done the last few times which, in my mind, had been a light trim through his body. Boy was I in for a shock when I picked up my dog and here he was, completely hairless and shaved beyond belief. The only fur remaining was on his head which made his head look twice the size of his now skinny little body!! I immediately called Tracy who told me somehow she misunderstood my instructions and that the last 2 grooms she had done, she hadn't cut anything off of his body!! Are you kidding me, for $80+ here I thought he was getting at least a trim! This place is a huge rip off. Even though Tracy offered to give me a discount next time, there won't be a next time. I should be getting a full refund instead. I can't believe any groomer would totally shave a Bichon, let along any other dog without their owner's permission! If you use Dogtopia's groomer, you need to write out very explicit instructions so you have written proof of how you want your dog groomed! Who knew??! Craig Dunlavey, the Manager, reached out to me on Feb. 18 and apologized for this past experience and for the miscommunication from the groomer. He explained that, from now on, the groomer is to make sure she gets complete and accurate instructions and to inform the customer should it be necessary to complete the groom in a manner other than what was requested by the customer. Craig offered me an immediate 50% refund and half off the next groom OR the next groom completely free of charge. I was impressed that Craig took the time to contact me and was willing to rectify the situation. For these reasons, I am changing my rating of Dogtopia to 4-stars! Thank you Craig! read more
