AMVET Animal Hospital

AMVET Animal Hospital

This vet has a very strong idea of how he feels it is best to treat your animal. After allowing the…read morevet to examine my dogs, we talked about medicine refills needed. The vet was willing to fill the meds for pick-up at the clinic, but I declined due to availability and pricing elsewhere. I had the vendor I chose fax in the request with no response from the vet office. I called the vet and was told they never received a fax, so I had the prescription request sent again. With no response I called the vet office again and was told their fax machine was out of toner so they were not receiving faxes. I asked for a phone approval as my dog is on a time sensitive medication. The vendor I chose to fill the medicines attempted to call the vet office and authorization was not given. I called the vet office and asked what was going on and was told the heart worm preventive medicine was not one the vet office uses so they would not authorize the request. For the record the medicine I chose was the generic for heart guard. In regards to the time sensitive medicine, I was told my dog needed a blood test for this medicine. Keep in mind when I scheduled the appointment, I told the office I needed this medicine filled, we talked about it during the visit, blood was taken, and meds were offered onsite for much higher. Three days after I visited the vet and spent $435 on three dogs, I received a certified letter in the mail indicating they would no longer provide care for my dogs. I inquired why and was told because one of my dogs growled and showed his teeth when the unsuaul practice for examining dogs took place required that dog to be muzzled. For minds wondering, this dog is an 11 year old border collie lab mix that has never been agressive before this experience. In all honesty I could have swallowed "we don't want to treat this dog going forward", but to not fill reputable medicines after paying for exams and having testing done is unethical. I also received the medical records for the dogs, and the records clearly indicate they received the medication faxes the day they were sent. This vet should have retired years ago, has horrible bedside manner, and will only work with you on medications if you have his clinic fill the medications. Steer clear of this vet and treat your fur children elsewhere!

*WORTH THE READ* My parent's dog might have a bacterial…read moreinfection and I have been looking all day to try to figure out what I could do. Because of COVID, it has been very difficult to find a place to take him today. Which is understandable. Every vet I have called so far today has no openings, but has given me tips that have actually helped while I have tried my hardest to find a place to go. Until I called THIS place. They were quick to pick up the phone. After explaining our situation, the first question the woman asks is, "are you a prior client to this clinic?" I had never been asked that before so I was a little flustered, and because it is my parent's dog, I was honest and tell her I didn't know. I assumed she would have asked for my information to check to see if I was in their system or not, but all she said was, "Because you aren't a prior client we cannot see you at this time." Again, I was flustered, but I couldn't think of anything else to say but, "thank you for your time." And then she hung up the phone without saying another word! I know I could have been more blunt and asked for her to look for my information, but if that is how they treat people, I don't like imagining how they treat pets. Overall sad experience.

One lady was at the register, another stocking shelves and the third missing. I went to the lady at the register and asked for help, she made an announcement. We waited and waited, then another lady came to relieve the lady at the register and started doing paperwork. I had to go up again and ask for help. She came a few minutes later to get the birds out of their cage. But I could tell she was not very pleased at me calling attention to their delay. The First Lady came by to apologize and said she needed to go to the restroom. I respect that and understand but I do not appreciate the attitude the other worker displayed. She even grabbed the bird roughly with her hands, I thought a net should have been used. It was just her whole persona was a bit off. My girls have waited years to get these birds, they saved their hard earned money to buy them. It makes me sad that we were treated with a bit of contempt because of the lack of priority that customers apparently have here. The paperwork could have waited young lady. Customers should have been helped first.

My tank was just cycled with clorine and dried for weeks so I know 100% the gill fluke disease wasn't in my tank. And no its not ammonia or nitrites or nitrates tank was cycled and tested. Its there diseased fish. I asked the lady if they had any diseases and she said no. I figured I didn't have to quarantine them since it was a new tank... Now I have 1 dead fish and have to spend $20 on Frtize Prazi clean. Never again....going to Quality Aquatics Pet Shop from here on out.

Our dogs were kept in the basement where we were not allowed to go. Neither one of them ate while we were gone and we were not notified of this and they both had developed diarrhea. No one told us anything until we picked them up! So we went to pick them up after we got back from Texas and could see that something was very wrong. They each had lost 4 lbs!!! The older one was so weak that by the next day she could not stand. We took her to the emergency vet in Coon Rapids where they gave her some IV fluids and prescribed some medication. We were lucky that she made it. Our other dog pulled through okay. The Bed and Bone is not a good place for dogs and there is no communication about your dog. After this incident, I never boarded my dogs again but used Rover to have someone come to the house and stay with them. I highly recommend them. It might cost more but it's worth it, not just in price but in care, plus you're not paying an emergency vet bill. Its a bad bad bad place!
