The winding drive up to the vineyard is breathtaking, and the views only get better from there. Treat yourself to a wine tasting, then enjoy an authentic Italian meal at Trattoria di Montaluce. Reservations are highly recommended, especially on weekends. I only stopped by this time, but next visit? I'm staying for golden hour, watching the sunset over the vineyards, and ending the evening with a beautiful dinner.

The venue is pretty spectacular with great views of the surrounding hills and valleys along with the vineyards as the hang of the side of the mountain. There were two aspects that pushed my opinion down a bit, neither are really the fault of the venue or business so I've stayed with the 5-stars. The wedding was held in an outdoor pavilion with great views, but during the first week of August quite hot. There are ceiling fans but they didn't help too much - I was sweltering in my jacket and tie by the time the ceremony ended (just be aware if you book something here during the hot season). The second, there are a lot of stairs as you are on the side of a mountain. If you have a hard time traversing a lot of stairs, there are other means of getting around so once again be aware. The main "hall" has windows with fantastic views. I thought the food was exceptional and wish I had taken more photos, but there were a lot of poor lighting (I was seated next to the dance area). My apologies for the missing check in and the lack of photos but I didn't want to be obnoxious at a wedding. Overall I love the rustic charm of this place and plan to return and more fully explore the wine offerings. The top one is covered with ceiling fans. With the threat of storms this afternoon, I chose to sit there. The view here is absolutely stunning- I can see several other mountains and the storms in the distance. The friendly host us at the register reviewed some wines with me so I chose the Plenitude. It's a blend of steel aged Chardonnay with voignier. It's crisp and perfect for a hot summer day. If you are in the area for an event or a weekend or an overnight, I highly recommend visiting both Mountain Vineyards and Winery.

Please note that this has to be booked ahead of time for them to prepare the items you need for the experience. When I entered the reception area of the winery I was greeted by who I know now is one of the owners which was a pleasant surprise. You get escorted down to the basement where the barrels and other items used in the winemaking process are stored. Imagine my excitement when I noticed the blending set up looked like a chemistry lab. The STEM girlie in me couldn't have been more excited! You are given some background on the history of the type of wines available and how certain blends are made. Once that is done, you are guided through blending your own wine; using 3 types of blends that are made on site at Kaya. The blends are red wines so if you prefer white blends this experience may not be for you. Once you complete your blend you seal it and label it and voila! Your own personalized wine. This experience was amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to come back to try it again. Nick was a top tier teacher for this experience!

So first things first you'll get there and you'll come into the lounge or cabin area and there are a couple of different spots you can go to. They have another outdoor area that is on the side of the building that you get the best view of the greenery and that's pretty amazing. It's a really nice view. If you're hungry, they have some small bites for you so don't feel like you have to drink and then not eat. Just in case you're wondering, they will have finger foods for you. It's nothing major but it's like dip or something along those lines so don't expect steaks. For the bottling you will go down to the basement where they have all the barrels (Nick was awesome and took care of everyone there). You will get to try a couple of different wines and mix those together to find a specific one that you like. At the end they will help you bottle it and cork it and then you will take it home. Overall if you haven't done any of the winery things in this part of Georgia, it would be a good place to start. Especially because there's so many in this area that you can do several in one day.

Just know that the wine will get you there lol. It's okay. Three glasses of wine over a good view, you can't beat that. They have an indoor, like I mentioned, but everybody was actually sitting outdoors on the patio area. The patio area was covering the view of all the greenery and all the vines and the backdrop of being in nature. It is a really good view. This was a relaxing and enjoyable way to try some new-to- us wines and the shop gave us a comfortable space where we could unwind with our wines! In summary, what a beautiful setting, excellent service, delicious food, charming drinks, with every one of the staff members (owners included) just waiting to coddle and take care of your every whim and desire. Finding the Lodge the first time was a little challenging but just trust the GPS even though it looks like you're heading onto someone's property, stay on the road until you reach the top. Once there, be prepared to be pampered. The road up is a tad narrow, and when we arrived it was covered in leaves (we hit prime color change/leaf dropping) but it's not bad. The rest of the time the road was well cleared with turn-outs obvious and useful if needed (we didn't need one during travels in and out). We stayed in a room on the 1st floor at the end of the hall with a nice sitting room and patio with a beautiful view of the wooded hillside. The room was nice, fully functional and one nice feature were motion lights under the bed such that if you get up during the night you're not stumbling around to find the bathroom door. Loved that. They have a bar with well made drinks and a nice cozy sitting area with a fireplace and comfortable chairs we used to chat with the staff who helped fine tune our winery stops. They have a 'snack bar' (my term) complete with various snacks, cold drinks, a coffee drink, and freshly made cookies each day. Oh, and they will point out a nice little file box with room numbers with homemade candy that magically appears each afternoon! A delicious and generous breakfast is included that is FAR from the typical powered scrambled eggs, paper thin bacon (you know what I'm talkin' about!). No, this is a freshly made frittata, the best home fries I've ever had, fresh cut fruit and more. Great start to each day! They have an outdoor seating area complete with lights, an abundance of bar height chairs/tables, Adirondack chairs, and fire pits. A great way to spend an evening at sunset sipping your wine/cocktails and talking the evening away. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that we opted for the five-course prix fixe dinner in their large communal dining area known as "Wit & Wisdom". It was a great way to mingle with other guests, share stories, compare winery travels, and just share time and conversation. This alone was worth the price of admission! What a quaint and such fun place tucked away in the mountains! From the time we arrived the staff ( Megan) was beyond welcoming. From the cookies to the champagne it was very special. Our room was perfect! Just what I needed for a get away. Well we went off for dinner for at night and decided to take an Uber since it was New Year's Eve and we were not familiar with the area. When it came time to leave , our uber never showed up! We tried again and again to no avail! Called the one and only taxi in the town and she was unable to give us any definite answer. My last hope was to call the lodge . I felt terrible as it was getting later by the minute. It was their New Year's celebration going on. No one was able to answer so I left a message for their manager Sean hoping at 11:00 anyone would even be there to respond. Not even 5 minutes later Sean sent a text asking if we still needed help . This guy went above and beyond to help us out. He was there within minutes and got us back to the resort in time to celebrate with the other guests to bring in the new year! This place is a gem. There's an art gallery, wine tasting bar, and restaurant right in the same building. The rooms are delightful - clean and cozy, and the shampoos and soaps smell great. We had a comfortable sleep on a queen bed with flannel sheets. Zero noise - not having upstairs "neighbors" helped there! The restaurant below - Bourbon St. Grille - closes early, so no one will be keeping you up late. We heard that Sara's Room was haunted, but other than the overhead light turning itself on sometime in the middle of the night, we didn't experience anything spooky. The Hall House hotel is an historic building and they're very upfront about the fact that there is no elevator access to the upper floors. The staircase was not steep and perfectly easy to navigate, and is well-lit and feels safe. The check in and out process was handled remotely, and if there are any employees on site, we didn't encounter them. No issues though, and we'll probably be back!
