Highly recommend to pet owners that need a dependable, caring team of animal lovers ready to assist with care giving , walking dogs while absent from home. They are thorough, professional in the notes about how the visits went and if there was anything out of the ordinary to correct. Raising puppies isn't always easy in the beginning and they are very good at noting behaviors to correct on.

We have two young rescue dogs, one of which was horribly abused and is thus very shy and afraid of people and takes a long time to warm up to anyone. We wanted to schedule several visits over the course of Feb-May to be sure our dogs would be comfortable with their caretaker while we were away. We met with the owner, and then with a caretaker, which seemed to go well. Then when we tried to schedule another visit, we got put off and put off multiple times over weeks with various excuses ranging from weather to injury and no callbacks, we always had to initiate communication. After several weeks of this treatment, we were informed by the owner that our dogs were too high maintenance and that Fresh Trails was not willing to work with us. Let me say, for the record, that I totally understand rescue dogs being difficult to work with, especially one who was as abused as our poor girl was. I do not fault Fresh Trails at all for declining to work with a dog with issues of that nature. Where I do find fault is with the incredibly unprofessional way we were treated, especially as Fresh Trails was well aware of our time constraints and our desire to give our girls plenty of time to get used to their caretaker. It should not have taken 2 months to come to the decision that our girls were too challenging, especially when several weeks had elapsed since the last visit.

Our two courses this winter were conducted via Zoom and were extremely effective. The next course, this spring, will be in person! The training from Proper Paws has been instrumental in helping our Puerto Rican rescue dog settle into our household. Judy has given us the tools we need to prevent or react effectively to behaviors such as begging at the table, pulling on leash, jumping/nipping, lunging to greet other dogs, etc. While these are all normal dog behaviors, Proper Paws has helped us guide our pup toward more desirable behaviors and we see a real difference. More importantly, we work on crucial safety behaviors such as "stay" and "down" that can make all the difference in a dangerous situation. All of the training is through positive reinforcement. We learn not to expect perfection but, rather, to appreciate progress. I highly recommend Judy and her program for anyone looking to solidify the bond with their dog and teach both humans and dogs in the household to interact positively and be safe in all variety of situations. Highly recommend!

We are currently finishing puppy kindergarten with Judy and have signed up for a second class,…read moreGraduate Puppy. I am really impressed with her program. She has rolling admission, lots of options for classes, and takes a wholly positive approach to training dogs. We have followed her recommendations and now that we are approaching week six, our puppy is actually pretty well behaved! She's not perfect, but I am aware of what I need to work on to change that (thanks to Judy), and I know it is within my power to change the behavior that I don't like by using the positive methods she teaches. She also offers a free socialization class for puppies younger than 18 weeks old. This is basically a class where you watch a bunch of adorable puppies play with each other and learn what is okay in terms of play behavior, what is not, and how to guide your dog toward a positive play experience. It is my favorite hour of the week because they are SO SO CUTE. I don't have photos from the formal class, but it is held in the same space. The pictures are all from socialization class. Highly recommend!
