From our very first meeting, it was obvious that his approach goes far beyond what others offer. Gabriel is a behaviorist who focuses on understanding the psychology and emotional state behind a dog's behavior beyond simply teaching commands or correcting unwanted behaviors. One of the most impressive things about working with him is how quickly he can read a dog and understand what is actually driving their behavior. Before choosing Gabriel, I met with several other trainers. They charged hundreds of dollars just to assess Scrappy, and those evaluations largely consisted of provoking reactions and then explaining how they could address the problems later in training. We just completed our 4 sessions with Jason and in a little over a month (each session is spaced…read moreout a week or two apart) and my now 6 month old is already 1) crate trained 2) walking SO much better on a leash and learning to be 3) calm on cue and 4) recall. When I first got my puppy, he was 3 months old and Shiba owners keep telling me only to use positive reinforcement training. I did my research and decided that I will look for a trainer who employs balanced training methods especially since my goal is to be able to walk with my dog off-leash. (More on this later.) Because he is the perfect balance of letting dogs be dogs, while still creating structure to set dogs up for success. That means I can't just introduce my pup to other pups on the street to say 'hi'. Pet parents, there is a proper way of introducing dogs, so please please be respectful of other dogs and owners. Jason breaks down his training into small baby steps so you can easily follow the training - when yo add distractions, duration, etc. I have learned so much from Jason - he is very passionate about what he does and he will make sure your dog gets what is needed. He goes above and beyond to train your dog and keep you and your dog safe. Now, a note on off-leash dogs. There is a lot of discipline, work and trust involved here and unless you have control over your dog and are confident that you can call your dog back despite distance and distractions, don't do it. We completed 4 training sessions with Jason for our senior Great Dane to work on separation anxiety, resource guarding, staying in place, recall, and proper walking etiquette. Having a big dog, we knew it was important to have complete control over her in all situations but were worried she was too old to learn any habits learned from her previous owner. Boy were we wrong! Our first session focused on Jason getting to know Lola and what brought us to training. From there, we worked on learning her body language and having her respond to us when we say her name. Next week focused on putting her in her crate and working on separation anxiety. This helped tremendously. Our dog used to howl, bark, and whine for hours in the crate. Now, she enjoys her crate and is calm when she enters, and can settle down quickly. The next session focused on putting Lola in "place". This was done through positive reinforcement and rewarding her for her correct behavior. Lola can now go to place when someone comes to the door and does not leave until released. Our final 2 sessions worked on proper walking etiquette and recall. We've noticed Lola stays by our side more closely and doesn't pull us when walking and also uses the bathroom very quickly when we go out for our nightly walk. Previously, she would only go in the park or very specific spots of grass. The recall session was fun and educational. We are seeing improvements with Lola coming back to us when called. Jason does a great job checking in throughout training and is always open to any questions you might have. He's kind and patient with his customers and their dogs, Lola gets so excited when she sees him. We're so happy we chose Jason as our trainer and are thrilled with Lola's improvement throughout the training sessions.

I bought a package for my then-11-yr-old Puli, who I'd recently brought to NY after spending the majority of her life living with my mom in Florida. My dog is quite anxious and barks a lot, and struggled with the transition from living with one person to 8 overnight. I sought Twahlee's help in correcting my dog's anxious tendencies because at this stage of her life, the proper training techniques Twahlee has to offer would have been extremely difficult to implement. He helped give me an array of tools to help teach my dog stronger obedience, which would then lead to greater control over my dog. About 2 years later, I moved into a new home with a housemate who has a dog that can be aggressive with other dogs. Because I hadn't used my entire package, I asked Twahlee if there was a chance he could come by and apply one of my pre-paid classes to visit our home and assess how the two dogs exist in the home. He let me know that packages expire after one year, but that he would come anyway, because ultimately he just wants to help others. This was highly generous of him to do, and I'm extremely grateful for his flexibility. At the end of the day, choosing to work with a trainer is less so to train your dog than to train yourself on how to better manage your pet, and Twahlee did a great educating me on areas I could be doing better. Now, our dog can walk in a perfect heel, is off-leashed trained so he can run free at parks and on hikes with perfect recall, and is obedient enough to bring into shops, eat outside at restaurants and travel with. Would highly recommend Twahlee's training for any dog issues - the earlier you start, the easier it'll be to set good practices for your dog.

When you're with him, he does give a lot of love and care, but there have been several instances of miscommunication when we were trying to set up training where we confirmed the day before about a training session and because we didn't confirm AGAIN the day of-- he didn't show up and thought our session was cancelled. I also wish he just booked our next appointment right at the end of session, but I think his partner organises everything. Because of this, and maybe this was due to the pandemic: we were sort of forced out of necessity (he wasn't answering emails or text messages) to switch to another trainer. I would recommend Eddie with the caveat that you'll have to be on top of him when it comes to scheduling. Again, he does good work and that should be noted. He just doesn't communicate as efficiently as we like. Maybe it's because his business is growing, and maybe taking too many clients at once (I don't want to assume,) but it got to be too much for us and we had to look elsewhere. While he is pretty much a perfect pup, he has a bit of aggression towards men that come into my apartment, which included my dad on one occasion as well as my uncle and building super. I had a one-on-one with Mark at my apartment, and I actually came across him in his van on the way back from our walk, waiting for our appointment time. We walked back to my apartment and there he asked a bunch of questions and got to know Hammy, and Ham loved him! Mark explained that it was because they had met outside first and then proceeded into the apartment afterwards, while Mark ignored him the whole time they were outside. He spent nearly 2 hours with me, and we took Ham on a walk where he impressed Mark with how good of a walker he is! My parents actually visited the next day for Easter, and Mark gave me the best way to re-introduce my dad- away from the apartment, while ignoring him. It worked! While their last interaction was filled with barking, snapping, and growling (from Ham, not my dad), as soon as we got back to the apartment, Hamlet was all over my dad with affection. (I included a picture and that's my dad's lap that Hamlet is sitting on!) I now feel like I have the right tools to introduce Hamlet to men in the future and to make sure he is comfortable with them.
