Mark is fantastic! I was referred to him by my vet in regards to my 1-year-old rescue Hamlet (a.k.a. Hammy) who was brought over from Puerto Rico, where he was a street dog. We had a great experience training our 2 energetic little fur balls with Mark. We worked together for about 8 sessions, training both Sushi and Charlie at the same time. They were definitely a handful, but Mark was able to manage them both in a calm and positive way. Charlie has always had issues with barking at strangers, and since we adopted Sushi last year, she was having issues with peeing on the bed, being unable to sit still or stay, and chewing up anything she could reach. She was also copying Charlie's barking behavior. Together with Mark we tried out various training techniques with them, and I can definitely say we saw improvement in both of them. They are both still a work in progress and I imagine they will be for a long time yet, but Sushi hasn't chewed up any shoes or TV remotes in over 2 months, and we have even started letting her back into the bedroom with no issues so far. We adopted our dog Brady at 7 months old, and even after doing a basic obedience training class elsewhere, our dog continued to have what we called "stranger danger." We were a bit nervous about bringing our pit bull Piglet to a group class as we found her abandoned and she tends to be a little rough around the edges so we first scheduled a home visit with Mark. He was great with her and thought she'd be good with the group class. There was only one other dog in the class (hey Lemon!) so that helped put our mind at ease. The class was great. Mark is extremely patient with the dogs and Piglet caught on to some basic concepts a lot faster than we expected. A huge part of successful training is putting everything you learned into practice at home. Mark sent us home each week with homework so we could practice with her. This isn't a place where you hand your dog to someone and they come back a perfect citizen. It's up to you to do a lot of the work, as it should be. Mark is a great dog trainer, but the thing I like best about him is he solely focuses on positive reinforcement- and it works. I know some trainers seem to invoke forceful submission in the animal, and I worked in veterinary medicine for 10 years and it was one of the things mentioned by vets that they do not like about trainers like Cesar Milan, etc. We adopted our pup at 4 months so he already had developed some funny quirks like fearfulness/aggression with some men, strangers etc and we have continually worked with Mark & our German Shepherd mixed pup to build confidence in both him and our handling. When we adopted our dog last year, she hadn't had tons of exposure to other dogs or people, and was fearful around strangers - growling, nipping on occasion. Once she got comfortable with us at home her behavior improved, but eventually we decided it would be good to seek out an expert opinion to help us troubleshoot some of her issues that kept cropping up when she was stressed or put in a new situation. I'm working with my dog Malygos to become a certified therapy team and one of the steps that helps towards prepping for the therapy test is the Canine Good Citizenship test. I was recommended to Mark after looking for an advanced dog class to prep for the test and I was more than happy to find out that Mark had a class dedicated to passing the test. I was a bit worried at first since Malygos has awful separation anxiety ever since she was a puppy and a part of the test included Malygos having to be separated from me for three minutes without seeming upset or panicking. But Mark seemed to be very optimistic that Malygos would be able to pass by the end of her classes and she did! She actually passed earlier than expected and we were able to try an agility course. (which was so much fun!) I'm so thankful that Mark helped to work on Maly's anxiety and a few other small problems how easy he made it for me to practice with her outside of her class. So now Maly's able to keep her cool when I walk out the door (It's great!) I can't recommend Mark enough for all types of dogs!
