So much fun. Both harnessing the dogs and the cart ride. But best was puppy time at the end.

AK Bark - A New Fireweed Alaska Made Collar for My Puppy! YES!

They have so much to choose from. They happened to have some doggy donut samples out, which immediately grabbed my attention. One doggy donut quickly turned into several because I have three dogs and there was no way they were going to share. The fresh treats were such a fun touch, and I loved seeing options like donuts and cookies available right in the store. AK Bark has a really nice variety of dog toys, clothing, accessories, and treats. Everything was easy to find, and the store itself was clean and well stocked. The staff made the experience even better. Everyone was friendly and helpful. No pressure, just good vibes and great customer service. If you are looking for a place to spoil your dog or dogs a little, AK Bark is definitely worth checking out. As always my German translation, for anyone else who is bilingual out there.

They were so helpful and patient, will definitely return, highly recommend thank youread more

As follow up to my poor service experience with Petco Wasilla, I spoke with my vet again regarding…read morethe wellness letter your staff said my vet will know all about. They have six people working in the office and none of them know what you're talking about. They have never issued anything other than the check up report and rabies certificate we gave your staff. They are checking with Petco Corporate but said they've heard of a vet issuing a "wellness letter" to a groomer. How can you improve? Fire your rude incompetent two bit manager and mean girl workers. Petco is a business that should provide good service to its customers. Not your staff rudely lecturing customers about what they want the customer to do when they show up for an appointment that took a month to get. It was a total waste of our time and we will not be back. My hope is those who take time to read this review will arrive at the same conclusion and run for the hills. This place is not worth the brain damage. Stay away.

We had 6 cases of non prescription wet canned food that we had ordered because the store was always out of that food. I asked the manager if we could return the 6 cases all with late 2026 expiration dates and he said yes. He said we can do a store credit or put the credit back on your card. The next day I carried 6 cases in to the store and the manager was not in. The sales clerk said we don't accept returns after 60 days. A different manager came out and she pulled up my name and we have no record you purchased this food here. I told her I ordered that food from them in the store for the last 5 years. After 30 minutes of them trying to find my order I pulled up my bank records on my phone and showed her all of the orders. Magically they were able to find my orders. She told me that the manager I met with was new and that they could only give me a store credit. I insisted on a refund. The manger went to the back room to call her boss and came out and said we will only give you a store credit. The new food is only available on line and using the store credit would not allow me to do repeat orders to reduce cost of the case. I agreed and so she started processing the credit in her register and turned to me and said the system will not allow me to process the credit because it is over 60 days since you purchased. I spent over an hour dealing with incompetent people and walked out with the 6cases. I will pay more purchasing from my vet before I will ever step a foot in that store.

Alaska K9 Aquatics - Roger (Don't judge dads poor grooming skills)

Alaska K9 Aquatics

We've been customers of Alaska K9 Aquatics for over 2 years and our pups love swimming in the pool…read more Unfortunately, this facility is under new ownership and the high standards by the previous owners haven't been upheld. Heather (dog trainer) is the only bright spot within this facility who's always on top of things. We notice on days she's not there the cleanliness, customer interactions, and overall functioning of this business becomes extremely degraded. We've had a standing appointment with our 3 dogs every other Friday for over 2 years and schedule 2-3 months in advance. The previous owners always insured a gap with our pups since one of our dogs is reactive. This courtesy wasn't just extended to our dogs but to all clientele that needed a small buffer to get their dogs in/out of the pool. Recently, when the new owner was doing orientations with new clientele 2 dogs were brought in during our swim time and our dogs immediately stopped swimming and began engaging the dogs that had suddenly appeared. The new owner did not address the situation appropriately and should have politely asked new clientele to wait in their vehicles until we completed our swim time. The previous owners had this as a standing rule so clients renting out the pool were not disturbed during their 30 min swim time. The new owner asked if we wanted our session comped and stated we just didn't want dogs coming in during our session which until recently had never been an issue. We asked if this would be a problem in the future and the new owner stated you can just take the last session of the day if it's going to be a problem. It appeared the new owner didn't want to extend this simple courtesy. My spouse texted back and forth with the new owner stating that we would wait until Heather returned prior to scheduling another appointment. She abruptly, credited the remaining balance of our $1,200 punch card and sent us a comp for our session that had been interrupted without discussing with us first. Apparently, losing an established client after 2 years is this new owners only solution to this "new" issue which was never a problem with the previous owners. I sincerely hope that the "New" ownership can adopt/enforce the established policies the previous owners had in place. This would create a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for everyone.

So I live walking distance from this Petco and occasionally make my way over here to drift through…read moretheir items. I don't go here often or regularly because they are very expensive. Compared to Amazon (with free Prime shipping to Alaska), this Petco's pet supplies are about twice as expensive (eek!). But, sometimes you just need to have a 'shopping day out with the animals' and this is where I choose to go. They also have a wide array of pet food, in case my Amazon order isn't delivered by the time I run out. They're also one of the few places in Anchorage to carry fresh and frozen foods as well as live insects (for reptile food). There is one specific girl in this Petco that has 100% earned my respect as an employee. I would have originally rated this Petco 3 stars, but because of this girl's loyalty to animal care- I upped it a star. I don't know what her name is, but I originally met her in July and she was working in the reptile section. By late August she'd been promoted to manager of the animal care department (or something similar). She's fairly young, but truly LOVES the animals there and ensures their habitats are clean, the animals are well-taken care of, and also ensures the animals are handled with care so they don't become skittish or fearful of human hands. A few other employees in the store seem equally as enthusiastic about animal care, but a couple just seem to mope around and not do much (which is always off-putting to me when I walk into a department store). This Petco does carry live animals including a very good selection of reptiles, rodents, and birds. They also carry fish- but their aquariums, in particular, are not in the best shape. There are often dead fish in the water with the live fish. The lighting is broken on a few of the aquariums. Some are over-crowded and others are not cleaned. The aquatics section isn't up to par, and that did downgrade this store a star. Also- their hermit crabs have painted shells which have been scientifically proven to be harmful to the mental and physical health of hermit crabs (shame on Petco for continuing to sell hermit crabs in this condition!). With that being said, the other reptiles, rodents, and birds are kept in fantastic condition. Their cages are clean and well-maintained and all of the animals are typically very active and healthy in appearance. The store is well-organized and kept fairly clean. Everything is divided by species which makes it relatively easy to find what you need. They have the best selection of organic grain-free cat and dog foods that I've found in Anchorage. The dog-training specialists are very professional and well-informed. I brought my boyfriend's rescue pit bull in here about a month ago when I was pet-sitting her. She's a very hyper dog who pulls on the leash when being walked and also 'begs' for attention from other dogs and kids by barking ferociously at them (she's not aggressive, she just wants them to come play- but people don't realize that). Anyways, when the employees here saw me wrestling this hyper pit bull they came over and offered a lot of advice. They showed me a training leash and techniques that I could use to keep her from pulling and also did a mini 'free session' to show me how to deter her 'come play with me barks'. They took the time out of their day to do this entirely for free. I was extremely impressed. Anyways, this Petco has its good and bad parts. They truly do have employees that care, but the aquatic sections needs some extra special attention to get up to standards. The hermit crabs shouldn't be in painted shells, but the rest of the animals are well taken care of. They have a great selection, but are a bit over-priced. Overall, though, it's worth stopping in just to talk with the very knowledgeable and professional employees- and find a few fun pet items to spoil your furry, feathery, or scaly friend with.
