Nice clean store but not very knowledgeable about how to treat individuals with disabilities which is a major issue with me.

We moved over to Denver NC about 2 1/2 months ago. We found The Groomery by PetSmart and they have…read moregroomed Watson our Corgi twice. Both times they did an excellent job. Doing an excellent job does not help if you can't get through to make and appointment. Tried to make an appointment yesterday and both times I called the number, it rang and rang till it timed out and no one ever picked up the phone. Tried to go online but would not take by email address and password. Finally drove over to the store while we were going out for Denver. It was pure chaos with people picking up their dogs but finally got the attention of one of the young ladies at the desk. She apparently was one of the groomers because they do not staff the desk and depend on the groomers to pick up the phone at some time. Since they are busy grooming pets, this does not happen. She tried to book an appointment but could not find us it the system despite the fact that we had been there twice before. She tried to look up by my name, my wife's name, address, the home phone number and both of our cell numbers and could not find any. This is in spite of the last time I picked up Watson, they had called my cell to let me know he was ready. Finally did get an appointment for next Thursday but in the meantime not a happy camper. I had previously left a 4 Star Review based on one experience at this location. This is out of norm for me because I normally visit a place several times before I write a review. Based on additional experience, I had to delete that review and replace it with a more accurate assessment.

I had been bringing my dog to this location because I couldn't find a smaller groomer with…read moreconsistently good reviews. They usually don't do exactly what I ask for, and I always have to trim him up at home afterward, but they took care of spots he doesn't let me deal with (feet, trimming around his nuggets, shaving his butt...). His last visit really takes the cake. The groomer seemed to be in a little bit of a mood when we arrived, so I almost didn't leave him, but I felt that she's a professional and obviously loves animals (or she wouldn't be a groomer), so I went ahead with the appointment. I told the groomer that I wanted his ear and tail hair to be trimmed short. His ears look like they were trimmed a little, but his tail looks like it wasn't trimmed at all, the hair is still over 4" long. I noticed as soon as I picked him up, but he was in distress from having a really bad experience with the groomer, so I didn't say anything. She said he had an accident in the cage and needed to be washed again. Later in my review, you'll find out why he may have been stressed out enough to have an accident, when he hasn't had an accident since he was a baby, several years ago. He smelled like poop (we smelled it the whole ride home), his floppy ears were stringy and oily like they weren't washed at all, he has hair sticking out all over his body here and there, he is shaved in really odd places, and he just looks, overall, like someone let an unsupervised 5-year-old with a blunt pair of scissors have an afternoon of fun with my unsuspecting dog. I was also charged for a nail grind that I didn't ask for and she said he was particularly naughty and sensitive about his feet. Okay, so, that's all cosmetic stuff. Hair grows back, I can wash his ears and give him a bath at home since they didn't do a thorough job. The overcharge... whatever, it was only $18 and I didn't feel like arguing about it. I usually tip $40 but gave her an additional $20 since she said he was naughty and gave her a hard time. When I got home, I found out WHY he was "naughty" for her and wished I hadn't left any tip at all! This is where we get to the serious part: When we got home and started putting away our groceries, we noticed dozens of quarter-sized dollops of blood all over the kitchen and dining room floors. My poor dog's foot was practically pouring blood all over the house. His nail had been cut to the quick. I had to hold a cold washcloth to it for a while to stop it from bleeding. The groomer said he was particularly sensitive about his feet during his visit... well, if you cut my nail to the quick, I'd be especially sensitive about it, too! He has been skittish and scared ever since this visit. The manager of the groomery wanted me to drive a half hour back up there for her to look at his foot and trim him up. I can't spend an hour of time driving him there and back when my week is already planned out and pretty full. I'd rather just trim him up myself. She also said the injury to his nail "couldn't have happened" there because 'they have to take a dog to the vet if there's even a drop of blood', yet his nail was obviously cut too short and there is congealed blood at the tip of his nail now that it has stopped bleeding. I was willing to overlook the bad trims. After this last visit, I will never subject my dog to this place again.
