I can't really comment on the after-hours drinking aspect of Doc's. I have only frequented Doc Ryan's during lunch hour. Their burgers are good, not great and they have a decent buffalo chicken sandwich. However, their beef and cheddar sandwich is outstanding!!! I get a craving for that sandwich every now and then which prompts a lunch trip to Doc's. My biggest complaint about docs is the smell of the place. Whenever I go in there, the place smells like a urinal cake. Disgusting. If they fixed the smell, I'd give 'em an extra star.... read more

Bad food and even worse service. They have refused me service several years ago from lunch because we were underage- but it was Noon and we were ordering food. Very unprofessional and rude staff. Also the new menu is terrible, the Cuban sandwich is totally inaccurate and awful. read more

I love this place. I have been going to Docs since I turned 21 and 10 years later, it's still an awesome place to grab a drink. Everyone there is cool and laid back. You can go grab a drink and not worry about any goofs trying to bother you. Would def recommend... read more

If you're drunk and looking for food and beverage, this is the place for you. Otherwise, don't bother. Went on a Saturday for lunch, and was told it was dollar burger day. Sounds good, wasn't expecting much since they're a dollar but figured we would try one with the appetizers and beer. Bad decision. The food all tasted burnt and needed some serious seasoning, and we were served everything on styrofoam plates! Really? I get that it's a special, but you can't put it on a real plate for me? Haven't been to Doc Ryans for about a year. Stopped in and it was very disappointing. The bartender was fine, but he food- horrible. I had a nasty Paddy melt, as they call it. My husband had the worst Nacho's ever. The cook never told the bartender the food was done. He just tossed it up on the server area and went and watched TV. Needless to say- the food was room temperature at best. If you're looking for a place to have a drink after work, fine. But, don't eat here. Another obvious flaw in this work environment- I don't think any of the employees like each other. read more

Doc Ryan's is a long standing neighborhood tavern type of bar located in south Elmhurst. Although I don't frequent this place often, as it tends to be pretty smoky and at night attract a young, college age crowd, many long time Elmhurstians make this bar a tradition on holidays. Sounds goofy, I know, but Elmhurst is one of those kind of towns where people are raised here, grow up and leave for a short time, but end up back here; so we have many third and fourth generations of families living here; and the great thing is you'll see them at all the local neighborhood bars on the holidays! We love stopping in at Doc's on Thanksgiving morning after the annual Turkey trot to have a couple to start the day, see friends, and enjoy the holiday spirit, and this is the perfect neighborhood place for that. This bar reminds me a lot of the local neighborhood taverns that are scattered around the city - remember the places that your uncle would bring you to when you were a kid, the places that the whole neighborhood hung out at, young and old? Doc's has many different personalities, but it definitely has a lot of that flavor to it. It's smoky, it's loud, but it's a great neighborhood bar! read more

Came here for drinks and appetizers on a Friday night and they did NOT disappoint! Reuben Egg Rolls were delicious!! Amber was our server/bartender and she was fantastic! I love what they did with the place, it looks great! We will be back!!! read more

Excellent Pub for Dinner with the Family or hanging with friends. Service was great and overall was very clean. Great atmosphere.

I went here for a friends bday last Saturday and it was surprisngly fun. I generally dislike the bar scene and haven't really been to any of the bars in E-Town besides Pints. The BF and I were pleasantly suprised. We were in the back half of the bar, and pretty much took it over. Our bartender was awesome, I asked for Dirty Girl Scout shots, for me, the BF and the birthday girl and while they didn't have the stuff to make them, he ran around trying to figure it out. My favorite drink of the night, and general go to drink, was the vodka gimlet. I was kinda impressed that it actually tasted right, not just like vodka or lime. I'm pretty sure everyone else was having a great time also. We only expected to stay for an hour or so and ended up hanging out until close. So our bartender was awesome, and it was surprisngly fun and not super duper crowded. We're going to try and go back...and I'm going to try and drink less, since the Sunday hangover was rather impressive. read more

WOW! Where do I start? first I am a local business owner myself and I don't like this negative review system but I have to share this. I've lived in Elmhurst for 15 years last night my wife and another couple and I visited this place to get out of the house and have a few drinks, we didn't care about the atmosphere or décor just a couple of drinks with friends. Until a young guy approaches our table and says hi its his bar and extends his hand to shake mine which I did, he proceeds to shakes my wife's and move on to my friends wife.(what I didn't observe and my friend did was that the guys and his friends where have a joke on us.) my friend told the guy to leave us alone and get away. After a few heated words I approached the bar tender and asked him to kindly ask the drunk customer to leave us alone because if he swung at my friend he was liable to get seriously hurt. The bar did this and a couple of minutes later we received a drink on the house which was very nice. Now I am a very reasonable person and can deal with all of this but it does not end there the guy continues to play games and cause trouble he actually leaves at one point and then comes back, he obviously knows the bar tender because the bar tender now starts sticking up for him and words that I cannot use on my review or it would be pulled were used against us and we were told to leave,(nice right) we should have left along time before this! and kept our $120 I am a great customer that spends a lot money and tips, a tip to the owner because this bar does not do good business and is probably hurting get the get rid of the drunk bums and who ever the balled bar tender is. One last note I am from the UK for an Irish bar there is not one thing Irish on the menu its just a dirty dive bar and the other guy got the biggest break of his life life last night. read more
